My husband and I used the BWTP firm for several years without complaint; one of the principal partners was our accountant. This last year, however, we had a very bad experience with this partner. My husband sent several e-mails to the individual as he was concerned that our taxes were not being prepared on time; we were finally informed that because of the tax extension due to flooding in Missouri (which did not affect us), our return would be submitted at a later date.
Even though we preferred that our return be prepared more expeditiously, as we were expecting close to $70,000 total in federal and state refunds, we made no complaint. As the new deadline for the return approached, however, my husbands e-mails to the accountant again were ignored. Finally, just a couple of days before the deadline, I called the office and was informed that the partner was out of town and not expected back until after the return deadline was passed. I expressed concern about our return, and the secretary called me back later and said that after searching through the partner's desk, she had found our return and not to worry, we were getting a refund and the partner had applied for a six month extension.
Following this conversation, I was really incensed. I was fully aware that we were getting a refund and in fact were losing interest on the money owed us. Furthermore, the accountant was being incredibly rude by not communicating with us and leaving town without notice.
When the partner came back into town, I had to threaten to come and sit in the office and not leave until the return was completed. Miraculously, it was finally done the following week. I had to call the partner to clarify the situation - he never called me - and he never offered an apology.
We received a bill for nearly $1000 for services rendered including a fee because our account was allegedly past due when in fact it was our first billing.
