It is so refreshing to come back to a place over and over again for over 30 years and have the same great food every time! I think one of the most important qualities any business can have is consistency and this place has it in the bag. I have never had a bad meal here-only wonderful experiences that me and my family have enjoyed time and time again. I would recommend Ruiz (and I do regularly) to anyone and everyone who loves mexican food.

After moving to St. Louis from Arizona I was in desperate need of a good mexican restaurant. Since my move here I have tried many mexican restaurants in the area and after being disappointed so many times I am relieved to say that I have finally found what I am looking for. I went there last Friday after looking it up on this site, and even though it was very busy I received very good and friendly service, got my food quickly and it was delicious. I have to say that I have lived in New Mexico and Arizona and this food rivals any of the best mexican restaurants I have found in those areas. Thank you Citysearch!

Ruiz is my favorite Mexican restaurant without a doubt. I love their margaritas (gotta try the cadillacs! they'll get you feelin good!) and the empanadas and the fajitas are my favorites. The service is always wonderful and we are always treated like family when we go there--Rocio and Juan are our favorite servers. We vacation in Mexico often and I always joke with my husband that I cannot wait to get back to Florissant and get some good mexican food!

I like this place, it seems like a place on the hill, and the best part, it turns into a hopping little bar at night. Good food, all the classics. Pretty good service. A family place or a place for friends!

Hoestly, this restaurent embodies all that is wrong with many mexican restaurants in missouri. It is the typical slop on a plate that most people have come to think is actual mexican food in this area. However, in this case, not only was the food bad, but the service was also slow, the restaurant was dirty and the food had no flavor. Too often, people go to an "ethnic" restaurant and beleive they are actually getting food representative from that particular country, but in most cases, these restaurants have adapted what they call "mexican" or "chinese", etc. to be what it is we americans want and it isn't anywhere close to being authentic.

If you actually want to know what real, authentic Mexican food tastes like, head south down Lindbergh to Pueblo Nuevo. If you like Thai Food, another authentic and very good ethnic restaurant in Florissant is Simply Thai. For Indian food, India Palace is also very good and just a little further South on lindbergh, close to hwy 70.

I am flabbergasted to see a 4.5 star rating for this place. Why??

I believe this place has furniture that is 4 generations. The food was greasy and flavorless- The margarita was watered down and salty. and the prices for what is on the menu are ridiculous. I will not be back.

First things first - I'm not a huge fan of standard Mexican. It has to be well prepared for me to enjoy it.

With that said, Ruiz didn't do much for me. They relied too much on peppers to do all of the flavoring and to cover up any mediocre ingredients or preparation.

Essentially, this is a Mexican version of bar food - good if you're in the mood, but not worth going out of your way.

When I was a kid in school, our Spanish class field trip was to Ruiz'. Everytime I eat somewhere with someone who assures me he's turning me on to the best Mexican restaurant in town, I find myself thinking, "It's not bad, but Ruiz' is much better!" No one does rice like Ruiz', and the beef they use is just fabulous! Oh my gosh, I'm making myself hungry...

I LOVE Ruiz. I have been going to Ruiz all my life, my parents practically LIVE there! They have great service, food, and atmosphere. The wait staff are all people who know you and greet you like you are family.

my favorite thing to eat there are their Taco's & Rice. They Have Great food at great prices! i go there 3 times a week. my mother loves the steak because it is Certified Angus Beef, something rare in the restaurant buisness.

they are undergoing construction and it is a pleasure to see all the new things they are putting up because it shows that they mix it up to keep it exciting to keep going back there with something new!

I have been going to Ruiz Mexican Cuisine since 1969. Back then it was Jose cooking and his wife waiting the maybe 8 tables they had. The food was awesome!! As time went by and other businesses moved out, they took over the entire strip mall. I now live in Imperial Mo but gladly make the trip to Florissant for their very authentic and delicious food. And to me, I am willing to wait for good food - too many people are use to fast food. While I wait, I have a Margarita and chat with the bartender or other patrons. We all have something in common - WE LOVE RUIZ!!

To be brief: The entire experience was a total disaster. Upon entering, the wait staff was standing around chatting about their lives, and no greeting. When we were finally seated the waiter was extremely terse for no apparent reason and forgot our menus. Our chili con queso never came before our entrees. Our entrees were stone cold in the center, and had to be sent back - something we rarely do. After requesting the queso again, it finally came after our entrees were finished, but it was stone cold and solid. We asked for it to be reheated, but it never reappeard again the entire meal except on the bill! The waiter (a veteran there) just was oblivious to all the problems and didn't care nor apologize. Very strange. We will NEVER eat there again.

The Food is GREAT but service is HORRIBLE!! Slow, slow, slow. You wonder if your ever going to get waited on or if the waitress is going to come back with your bill. So the bottom line is if you have the patience then go, if not then don't.

My husband and I have been going to Ruiz for about 15 years now and we love it. The have the best chips and salsa. We also love the margaritas too. Not too sweet and not to sour. The service in the bar area is better than in the dining room. The servers are always so nice too. The parking lot is well lit and easy to park. We eat out a lot and this is one of our favorite places to eat.

Heard good about this restaurant and decided to check it out with my husband. It was nice in appearance, but not really romantic. Nothing was really bad at all. It was just average to us. The food was ok, but not really unique or different from the norm. Menu was typical tacos, enchiladas, and a bland salsa w/chips to start out with. It was an ok experience, but we can get that from our usual places.

I first discovered Ruiz Mexican restaurant about 10 years ago just by accident. Now I can't go anywhere else for Mexican food because I know they are not going to measure up. My husband and I took a trip down old Route 66 through Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. I thought maybe their Mexican food would at least somewhat as good as Ruiz -- no way!! I'm too spoiled by the delicious Chimicangas at Ruiz. Plus their tasty cheese covered beans and fluffy Mexican rice with meat topping are to die for! Now I refuse to go anywhere else for Mexican! If you want a great Mexican meal at a great price and plenty to eat you won't be disappointed with Ruiz!!

If you want a truely "Mexican Food" experience, try Ruiz in Florissant. We have been coming here for over 30 years and the menu is extensive. I have only tried 3 or 4 dishes, but I like them so much, I cannot help myself. My wife loves the Chimichanga's and guacamole made at the table. The restaurant is come as you are and is very family oriented. A bar, a section with tv's and video games, and a large dining section with plenty of rooms for large families. The staff is freindly and the food is tremendous. We have never had a bad meal in all the years we have dined here. You will not be go home hungry either, in fact, you most certainly will take food home. The plates are hot metal on wood, so the food stays warm the entire meal. You will love it! Try the enchilada plate with "Chili Colorado"! Rice and beans are perfect every time.

What else is there to say, we eat at RUIZ once to twice a week.
The food is great, the chicken wings are the BEST around Florissant.
Can't beat the service, Denise is the best waitress around and she always makes
our visit great. The atmoshphere is great and very relaxing. I don't think there has been
a time that I have been in Ruiz and haven't run into a friend that is also eating at Ruiz.

We just moved into St. Louis about two years ago and have enjoyed good Mexican food in other places we've lived. However, we had a hard time finding a good authentic Mexican restaurant here in North County. One night, while looking for a place to eat that would be economic with the kids, we saw that kids eat free on Tuesdays. We figured we'd give it a shot. That fateful night completely changed our dining outlook in St. Louis.

Not only have we found a "good" Mexican restaurant that is conveniently located close to us in Florissant and is easily accessible right off of Lindbergh Hwy, but we found an "EXCELLENT" Mexican restaurant. Our oldest boy LOVES the salsa and can't get enough of it. He gets his own chips and salsa everytime we come. My wife and I love the food and the authentic flavor that makes it wonderful. And the atmosphere is great! The service is as good as it gets and (probably because we now dine there on average once a week) we even now know the family that owns the restaurant!

If you're looking for a wonderful place to enjoy some authentic Mexican food in a nice family atmosphere with great people, look no further. Come and join us at Ruiz' as there's a good chance when you come, we'll be there too!

Okay, this is my first time writing a review, but I just had to write one about Ruiz. It's the best REAL Mexican I have ever had. Me, my family and friends have been going there for so many years, I can't remember the first time I went. It is usually a weekly adventure for us. And there are so many new things all the time on the menu. It's hard to pick something out to eat because I have never had anything bad there.... and there are SO MANY GREAT CHOICES (not to mention the GREAT MARGARITAS!). They even have stuff for picky eaters or little kids. So, it makes for an enjoyable time and everyone is always happy when they come to Ruiz. If you have not tried it, I would HIGHLY suggest giving it a try. I love Mexican and have tried many places, but i always end up back at Ruiz !!

Ruiz is by far the best mexican resteraunt I have found. The menu is packed with so many choices and varieties , that after visiting Ruiz for many years, I still havent tried all of them yet. All of the employees are friendly and make me feel at home each time I visit. And as a plus, they have many incentives and offers that keep myself, and my family coming back again and again. They also make the perfect marguerita! The chips and salsa are really great! I have never had a bad experience here. There are other places in town, but Ruiz is the only one I frequent. Well here we we are trying to convince this town where to get the BEST Mixican food EVER! If you have not been there yet, you owe it to youself to give them a try. Once you experience it, you will go back. We have been regulars now for over 30 years. We have tried other Mexican places and no one comes close to RUIZ! We have our favorite servers in Rocio & Juan. They have MANY of their own personal regulars that visit there weekly also. Hector is another one of our favorites. He has come up through the years with the great training from Rachael & Rocio. We want to also thank Rachael for her wonderful personality, and taking GREAT care of us over the years. A personal thanks to Doug (Rachael's Dad) for ALL the wonderful food from the kitchen. We enjoyed a special meal on Fathers Day in part to Doug's expertise in cooking and coming up with new items. Thank You.

Ruiz is the best of the best! That is why they deserve the rating of #1 Mexican Restaurant! I love Mexican food and have tried all of the other Mexican restaurants in St. Louis and across the river in Illinois. No one compares to the authentic Mexican cuisine that Ruiz offers. There has not been one item on their menu that I have not cared for. Everything is very tasty. My personal favorite is the Beef Enchilada?s. My husband?s is the Enchilada Poblanas. We, (my husband and I) have been coming to Ruiz for 28 years now. We are an every Friday night customer. Sometimes we frequent them more than once a week. Everyone knows us by name and treats us like family. Denise is ?our? waitress and she always puts a smile on our face. Rachel (the manager) goes out of her way to insure that all patrons are treated well and goes out of her way to make sure that that happens. The Cadillac Margaritas are to die for. Thanks Kevin!! The best I?ve ever had. So, with this said, I certainly hope you will give them a try. Once you have, you?ll be ?hooked? for life.

Our family loves Ruiz! It is a wonderful place to bring the kids for a night of fun Mexican food that is served by one of the many great staff members who love to have fun and provide great service too. It is also a place my husband and I go for a romantic dinner for two in a booth. The margaritas are the best in St. Louis and the Salsa and chips provided at no charge are the best in town. We love to go to Ruiz with friends. We have never had a bad meal and the variety on the menu is great. Thanks to all the great servers and cooks who make Ruiz our favorite restaurant!

We moved to Florissant in 1976. It took us about a month to find Ruiz's. Since that day we have enjoyed the food t, and the service has been supereb. I hate to point out 1 or 2 favorite servers because over the last thirty years there have been a lot of them. The competition has really increased the past 5 or 10 years but Ruiz always come out on top. Our son now lives in Kansas City and whenever he comes back to town the entire family seems to end up at Ruiz. We are now talking 3 generations. Keep up the good work.

Take a bottomless bowl of crispy chips and home-made salsa, add a huge plate of tender tamales or crunchy beef-filled tacos, wash it down with a delicious salty-rimmed margarita, and you've got a Mexican meal fit for a king (or a family of 5, as we do!). The portions are large, the prices can't be beat (as in, we bring the whole family and still leave with money in our pockets), the servers are friendly (and know us by name now!) and the owners bend over backwards for the community and their customers, with coupons galore, fund-raisers and an overall welcoming atmosphere, not to mention the flowers that decorate the front patios are just beautiful! We're not only loyal customers, but we feel like family when we walk in the door. Florissant is lucky to have Ruiz!

We would go to ruiz for dinner and we were treated as if we were family. My husband loved to go for the excellent service. When my husband was very ill, he knew he could go there and he was always given
special treatment. Any request we made was never a problem, with any of the servers. We never knew how one restaurant could have so many nice and personable people. My husband died loving this special place.

Thank You,
Patricia Eaton

Ruiz is the best Mexican Restaurant I have been to. Food is always great. The servers are wonderful and always a blast to kid around with! I would give Ruiz 5 stars for great food!! The one in Florissant is the best for charm and service. The Wright City location has the same great food, but since it is newer, I don't know the servers as well, so don't feel quite as "at home".

Have you ever gone back to a restaurant (one you really enjoyed a few years ago) only to find that it just wasn't as good as you remembered? Something (or many somethings) has changed (always for the worse!) and it just wasn't what you hoped it would be. The thing I most enjoy about Ruiz Castillo's is the fact that we have been going there for twenty years and there are no disappointing surprises. Everything is just as I remember it, every time. It's always exceptionally excellent and it's always consistent. The food is the best Mexican food I have ever had (and I have been to hundreds of Mexican restaurants) and is always in consideration when deciding where to go on our "date night." You know that you can't say that about many restaurants.
Thanks Ruiz for your unchanging commitment to excellence!

I voted for Ruiz as the #1 Mexican Restaurant. We have been going to Ruiz since 1970. The Enchilatas are the best I have ever had. I played on Jose Sr's softball team for 5 years in the '70s when Ruiz had one little spot in the strip mall on Hwy 67 in Florissant where Ruiz is still located. Now Ruiz occupies the entire strip mall. The entire team would gather there after the Sunday games for dinner and drinks to celebrate our victories (and losses if we lost). It was a GREAT time. Enjoyed by all. In September of 2000 we moved to Foristell and continued to go to Ruiz for the fine Mexican cuisine in Wright City, Mo.Both Ruiz's have excellent food and atmosphere. We have tried other Mecian restaurants but none have even come close to Ruiz. Benny the bartender at Wright City is a excellent bartender/waiter. He is always in control of the bar and the patrons in the bar area. Everyone that comes in the bar knows Benny or gets to know him and they just love him. He treats all with much respect and dignity. He is a GREAT asset to the Ruiz Family Restaurant. I have recommended Ruiz to many of my friends and those that have tried Ruiz have thanked me many times. They complimented the restaurant for the fine food, excellent and pleasant service. Undoubttably, RUIZ is the #1 Mexican Restaurant and recieves my vote as such.

I have been ordering beef quesadillas at Ruiz' for the past 30 years. I've tried other menu items, which are also delicious, but I always go back to my favorite. The beef is scrumptious, and their rice is out of this world! The ambiance is friendly and comfortable, whether you are there with family or friends. The servers are great, always helpful and prompt. And the margaritas . . . yummm-mmmm! If you like authentic Mexican fare, give Ruiz' a try.

Ruiz to us is the BEST Mexican resturant in St.Louis. The food there is great. I have gotten hooked on the enchilada polblamo, probably spelled wrong. It is the best! Another thing is the great service there. Denise is a great waitress and serves us well all the time. The guys are great also :-) They all deserve to be appladed. If ya have never been, you don't know what your missing. They are worth the try and am positive you won't be disappointed at all. And they also have great drinks there too. Great margriata's!
