Great malts, sandwiches, and recently voted best BLT sandwich with a full POUND of bacon on it. If you like an old fashioned atmosphere and some freshly made chocolates and fudge candies, this a great place. Tiny seating area and sometimes

This was another place we decided to visit as a result of Man Vs. Food. The building is small and you need to get there before the lunch rush or you will be waiting in line outside. The ere of nostalgia is rampant and gives you a sense

My husband and I ate here a few weeks ago for the first time. They came highly recommended so since we were down town, we thought we would try it. First was the waitress that was barely audible and mumbled so you could not understand

This is the place you go for malts, shakes and other ice cream. They have average food but I go for the shakes. HERE IS SOME ADVICE - 2 Shakes is enough for 4 People.

An order was called in to a male worker for a pick-up time of 11:45am. The order wasn't ready until 12:15pm. Our union carpenters can only take lunch from 12-12:30pm so they had 10 minutes to eat their lunch. The two fruit salad sundaes and an order of chips were not included. When we called, we spoke to a man again & told him about the order missing a few items. He said he went over the order on the phone so if it?s not on the receipt than it wasn?t placed. We told him we?re sure we placed the order for these items and he asked if we were calling him a liar, and then proceeded to tell us not to order from them again and then hung up on our co-worker. She was very shocked! I checked the receipt and we were not charged for the fruit salad sundaes but we were charged .60 for the chips (open food item-on ticket). I am the person who placed the order and I circle the items as they?re read back to me so that I am sure they?ve been accounted for, as I am held responsible if somebody does not receive their lunch. The items were circled, and when the man read the order back to me, he did not say the single order of chips, so I remember having to confirm that he had chips written down, and then he said yes, though again, we did not receive them. I feel as a small-business owner in today?s rough economy, such rude behavior from an employee should definitely be brought to their attention. I honestly hope it was not an owner who treated his customer in such an unprofessional way. We spent roughly $200.00 per mo. w/them. The customer may or may not always be right, but the customer is always the customer, and to be treated in such a manner is uncalled for. We sent a letter to the three owners letting them know about our horrible experience, but nobody replied. Needless to say, we haven't ordered from them since.

The person who answered the phone had NO patience and or didn't want to take the time to help me. He kept telling me you have to come down here and look for yourself i don't know. All I needed was a total amount on some chocolates How Hard Is That?>!

I've worked at Crown Candy for over 3 years and I still love it without a doubt. It has great food, ice cream, and candy and I wouldn't replace it for the world. Many people are afraid of the neighborhood but I can honestly say, it's not a scary place to go and you do not have to worry about going after dark. It is a beautiful place and all of the staff are incredible people.

Want the best BLT you will EVER have??? Do ya LOVE shakes, malts, and ice cream served the old fashioned way? WANT EXCELLENT FOOD CHEAP??? Wanna experience GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE??? If you said yes to any of the above questions, or if you just want to see what an old time corner store/soda shop is like, then you've gotta check out Crown Candy Kitchen!!! It's been around since 1913 so you know it's gotta be awesome! My dad used to go here when he was a kid (God rest his soul) & man would he smile when we'd go there - always had a story for us (I sure do miss him). I can't even count how many friends and co-workers I've taken there over the years who are now just as addicted as I am and who are now taking their family and friends! Oh, and did I mention that they have candy? Word of warning though - If you go around Easter, plan to stand in line cause they are PACKED but it's worth the wait! And, it's easy to get to! Right off of Hwy. 70 (take St. Louis Avenue & go right if you're coming from the West or take Madison & make a left at the second stop sign if your coming from the East - either way it's two blocks down on the right hand side). And, it's close to downtown so you can go on your lunch hour! Some people think the neighborhood is a tad shady but believe me, IT IS SAFE! The neighborhood is coming back and the cops are there so don't be speeding! Trust me, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

We love Crown Candy Kitchen! The Johnny Rabbit malt is fabulous! I feel that it's a little heavy on the nutmeg, I order mine without. Seems to cover the flavor of the fresh bananas. Other than that, its wonderful. The chocolate and candy selections are delicious also! The food is good, but not as extraordinary as the dessert items. They have fresh and tasty egg salad! Definately my fave!

Dissapointed at the lack of a burger, but that's not the restaurant's fault. I just thought a good burger & fries with a milkshake is the foundation of any respectable soda joint. Replacement BLT was fine, but nothing spectacular. Mostly a bacon sanwich, little tomato or lettuce. The shake was good and I appreciate the existence of well crafted homemade ice cream in this increasingly corporate world. Sure candy would be likewise delectable. Overall, good place to stop in for sweets if you're in the area, but otherwise the trek to the restaurant - seemingly surrounded by little- is a haul.

I grew up in the St. Louis area and sadly I am 34 years old and just discovered Crown Candy. I took my boyfriend there for something different than the norm. We had to wait about 30 minutes to get seated but if you have the time it is worth the wait! There is so much to look at. They have the little individual jukeboxes on each table, unfortunately they don't work but still neat to look at. The grilled cheese, roast beef and cheese and chicken sandwiches are all good so I imagine that everything else is too. Save room for dessert even if it just a scoop of the daily flavor. The next weekend I took my grandma there for lunch and she loved all of the memorabilia. A walk down memory lane.

Not the greatest area of St. Louis, but should this place ever disappear it will be a great loss to the city. I grew up taking an annual family trip to the city every March to load up on Easter candy and an old-fashioned malt shop meal at Crown Candy. It just wouldn't be Easter without their amazing chocolate! I have since moved 3 states away and still make the annual trek as often as possible. Everyone should visit this place at least once in their life (but you'll be back). The ice cream sundae's are to die for!!!

A trip to St. Louis isn't complete without visiting this gem on the Near north side (just north of downtown). This family owned restaurant, ice creamery and candy store makes the finest treats you can imagine. You can't go wrong with a pound of Heavenly Hash or a box of nut clusters as a gift to someone special.

Don't forget to sit down and enjoy a sandwich and sundae before leaving. The Reuben is wonderful but don't ignore the chili tamale! You won't regret ordering a chocolate banana malt (made the old-fashioned way) or a Crown Newport (homemade gooey hot fudge, homemade butterscotch, toasted pecans and real whipped cream!...choose your own ice cream flavors or let them use the finest vanilla ice cream you've ever tasted!)

Crown Candy Kitchen sells candy! Surprised? In addition to their well know Newports, they also sell many types of homemade candies and treats. The neighborhood's seen better days but customers keep coming back here. Service can be a bit slow and the lines long. Maybe its the charm of the place that keeps people returning. I love the Newports. The variety of candy they offer is more novelty to me than candy I must have.

This place is candy heaven!! They have shakes that are to die for. It is the place to go on a date as well. Do not go here if you are on a diet. This is a neat place to take visitors too. Crown Candy Kitchen is one of the most unique, cultural places I've ever been to in STL. Their hot-dog sandwich is my personal favorite...but their malts are untouchable. It looks like it did in the 50's. I feel like I've stepped back in time everytime I go there. The service is great and friendly. Also, their candy is spectacular, especially their cola-flavored gummi bears!

Crown Candy takes you back in time to the days of soda fountains!!! The restaurant is TINY......expect a wait during the lunch time hours, less than 30 seats available, BUT so worth the wait! The food is good and so cheap, but what really brings people in is the Ice Cream treats!!! They are so yummy and so rich and so inexpensive! You can't miss a visit to Crown Candy if you ever visit St. Louis, as a native you must visit!! A true treasure.

Parking can be a problem also, bring change for the meters.....and be prepared to wait for seating...but don't pass up the milk shakes or the malts...to die for!!

Who would have thought that a place that is famous for homemade candy also has great food. This place is one of St. Louis's oldest eating establishments. If you didn't know before you got there, you would know after. It is a small place with diner style seating, and still the original bar. The food is excellent, as is the ice cream and homemade candy treats. If you go on a weekend, you have to get there early, as they fill up fast. Seating is pretty limited, but worth the time it takes to get a table. They also offer old fashioned candies that you just can't get anymore. This place is a true classic!

Crown Candy Kitchen is an enjoyable part of History. I believe it is unique in the US. It has great food, great ice cream malts and sodas. Very fast service and helpful people in telling you what and how to order if you haven't been there before. It is in a neighborhood that needs some help but it is a safe place to go. When we were there, I recpognized Bill McCellan, a write for the paper and with him was the St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay. They waited for a table just like the rest of us. Tip Well !!

Crown Candy is one of the last of it's kind from the old phone booth to the old juke box. If you're in the St. Louis area it's a place worth visiting. I recommend trying the B.L.T., piled high with bacon or the Reuben piled high with corned beef. I also recommend the chocolate bannana malt, which is my absolute favorite. I don't think I've ever had anything bad from Crown Candy!

A fun, historic place to eat. Don't miss the ice cream AND the chocolate, particularly at Easter time! Once you are seated (which can take a while) the service is breathtakingly fast. It's great to think of the generations who have been served there!

Pros: historic surroundings, very fast service, great malts

Cons: neighborhood, long lines at times, parking

Despite the deterioration of the neighorhood this historic building and interior transports anybody, but especially older adults back to a simplier time. The food is simple but delicious and the ice cream a treat for a child of any age.

Just the kind of place that you NEED to go and take friends. You must plan to wait a little but it's worth it. What a joy to see an "old" family place that has survived time. I love the ambience of the place and the people who run this place are the "BEST" kind of people you could ever hope to get to know. They involve all the family members, sometimes even the little ones are there and help bus tables...remember to tip well!!

No faux nostalgia here; this is the real thing. Enjoy a sandwich lunch and top it off with a malt or other ice cream treat. Best of all--take home candy!
