Maybe people in Saint Louis don't understand how good Thai food can be, or actually asian food in general, but this is another in a series of bad asian restaurants that I have experienced during my 6 month stay here. I've gotten cary-out

I have had delicious Thai food in my life... and this place is ok... not nearly as flavourful as Thai should be but the chicken satay was pretty yummy. The salad rolls were rather bland... and the seafood dish came in tin foil and was odd. The Thom Yum soup was too hot at medium and I usually love hot food. The shrimp in the soup was not bad for mid west. I would go again for the satay chicken and because I love different cuisine... but after reading above review from Seatlle person, I will definitely try the Thai Buree place.

What I did notice was the service although slow wasn't because of our waiter - he was very busy and was very fast... but he just had way too many tables but he was friendly enough.

Atmosphere was all right... I had a street light shining in my face but it was the company that I was with that made the experience great... not the food.

The King and I is your typical Thai dining experience. The menu has a nice selection of Thai and a couple of Chinese dishes. The food is always fresh and well-prepared with one exception-the wait. You usually have no problem getting in and being seated but the issue comes with the wait staff. When my finance and I go there during the weekdays and it always seems like they are understaffed. If there is hardly anyone there, we are usually served pretty quickly. However, if the place starts filling up, it could be a while before you see a server; I've had to ask for someone to take our order a couple of times. On the upside of that, the servers are always pleasant and attentive. Once you order and your food does arrive, it never disappoints; I recommend the Spicy Fried Rice. You are able to select from mild, medium, and spicy. The mild is hardly noticed, the medium has quite a kick, and you'd have to be nuts (IMO) to order the spicy because it's explosive!
So if you have a craving for Thai (and aren't in a hurry to eat) then I recommend The King and I.

The curry is not as "Thai" as you would think it should be.
Servers were actually quite friendly. The interior definately needs some remodeling, as the decorations are outdated. It feels musky and old, not clean and spotless like other restaurants I have experienced.

The menu is not very expansive and definately needs to be worked on.

This restaurant is definately worth checking out, but you wont find yourself coming to eat here every week.

I went to this place. The food was just 'okay'. I went there for lunch and ordered Spring Rolls, a spicy Veg. Dish and Thai Tea. Spring rolls and the Tea were quite bad. The Veg dish was just okay.

I am new in St. Louis but this city should have much better Thai restaurent than this. I came from Austin, TX and I loved 2 Thai restaurants over there.

I hope this review helps people taking better decisions.

I am shocked that this has been rated the best Thai resaturant in St. Louis. Granted, there aren't that many good Thai restaurants in St. Louis, however, there are still other Thai restaurants that put this one to shame. I have eaten here a couple of times. I thought my first dining experience must have been a fluke, as everyone gives rave reviews. However, I will never return as the food is terrible. I ordered a cashew nut chicken which was just dry strips of thigh meat, no sauce, no flavor. Being from Seattle, I am used to great thai food. If you are looking for a good thai dining experience, try Thai Buree instead.

oh the best Thai food in St. Louis. Love it! You can take kids there very easily and you do not need reservations.

I heard about this place, but never tried it until now. The chicken satay and papaya salad were delicious! I had the Pad Ped vegetables for my main course, which was excellent. The service was great, as well as the value for your money. They have cute dining areas for large groups, where you sit on pillows!

I've never been disappointed with this place. The food is really good, the menu is extensive, and the prices are very reasonable. Best of all, I've never waited more than a few minutes for a table, even with a big party. Highly recommended!

If you like authentic Thai food at a reasonable price then go to King and I on South Grand. The appetizers are wonderful and the service is great. They have traditional group seating (on sunken floors with mats) or you can have an intimate dinner for two. They are closed on Mondays (I think) so you might want to call ahead and see if they are open. I highly recommend the Pad Thai.

There are not a terrible lot of Thai restaurants in St Louis, of the few that there are "King and I" reigns "King" head and shoulders above the rest. Part noodle shop part elegant dining, King and I provides comfortable sitting and a pleasant atmosphere and service staff. The prices for lunch and dinner are reasonable and the quality of the preparation of each dish is very high- an attention to detail is paid. That being said, I would reccomend any of the noodle dishes- the Pad Thai being delicious (but not a good as ive had at other Thai restaurants). When ordering spicy foods pleased be advised that "really spicy" implies something of a death wish for the average diner-- be a spicy food pro before going that far

King and I is the best thai food I've found in St. Louis. The food is so great we find ourselves calling and ordering take out more often than I ever would have thought. The food is fantastic, the portions are large enough for lunch the next day, and for take out they've got it all ready in 10-15 minutes. Everytime I've ordered for take out it's been there waiting when we get there. Eating in is good too. I'd reccomend reservations. Everyone we've taken here from out of town has raved.

I ordered 3 Kings of Thiland and added the phrase "make it hot" - it's a good thing that I love spicy food! What a dish... I would recommend this restaurant to everyone I know. Great cuisine!

Not a 10 at all.
The fish cakes were small and dry, green curry was very good, and the pad thai was decent but a bit too sweet.
And the service was terrible -- slothful, inattentive, indifferent.... Next time, you'll find me back at Pho Grand.

Excellent food; best place to go with a large group of people. Dishes are easy to share so everyone can try several entrees and appetizers.

Having moved from Chicago, with a ton of good Thai restaurants, was really looking forward to getting good Thai food here. What a disappointment. The chicken Pad See Ew was bland, didn't have much chicken and the brocolli seemed soggy. Overpriced for what I got.
