I made reservations a week prior & we still had to wait quite a while.

Our waitress spoke so fast, did not have a friendly personality, acted bizarre, and did not come to our table often.

Our Wisconsin Trio Fondue(cheese) was just a strong...how do i describe it...not tangy...not bitter, some where in between, that we were actually making faces when we tried it.

I had the mushroom and spinach salad and it was blah.

Our entrees WERE NOT impressive. I ordered the vegetarian entree and had to cook it with everyone's meat.

The chocolate fondue & wine were the only things good(although several times the wine was brought out, it was almost room temperature).

I ordered a Ying & Yang drink, & while it was pretty, it wasn't delicious.

My husband, my parents, and I drove over a hour to eat there for my 30th birthday & i was not impressed.

For the money you spend, I was so disappointed. I thought the food would taste so good & i t didn't.

I HATED my experience here. I arrived and had to wait an hour despite reservations. My waiter kept whispering to me which is hard to hear and just plain creepy. The food was alright and definitely a different experience, but unfortunately someone spilled my fondu all over my lap as he walked by. The manager did not offer to pay for it and it ended up being a terrible night.

I just visited this restaurant for the first time. I had heard so much about it that we decided to go there for the Valentine's Day special. The drinks were superb, the employees friendly and fun. The food was absolutely incredible. When I went to the bar area to ask where the restroom was, a man who worked there didn't just point me in the right direction, he had me take his arm and personally showed me where it was. I have never had that type of personal service before. Raphael, our server, was fun, very conscientious and thorough explaining how to cook our food, what the sauces were, and knowledgeable about the ingredients and made helpful suggestions to help us pick our perfect menu.... Unfortunately for me, I got very quickly very ill sitting at the table half way through our meal (or more accurately "experience"). IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM OR THE FOOD. What amazed me was that the staff there was extremely considerate of me once my boyfriend asked the manager for a cold cloth for me. She immediately brought it over along with a bag of ice and a cup of water. We had to leave before the desert which was bitterly disappointing, however what will stay in my mind is how Raphael helped my boyfriend walk me all the way outside to the car to make sure I got there OK as I was light headed and dizzy. To say they went "above and beyond" hardly seems to cover it. They were so kind to me and my feelings of stupidity getting sick. They truly made the experience an enjoyable one (all things considered). I will go back and would recommend this restaurant to everyone who wants a special night out and experience. While it is an expensive evening, it was well worth it!! Thanks to everyone there.

Pros: Great food, service, drinks, ambience

Cons: Can't think of one!

This place is nice very fun and something different and exciting to do but as far as being listed as kid friendly I say not at all they only have 2 highchairs for the entire establishment and while the kids loved the idea of cooking their own food and dipping it in the various cheeses chocolates and sauces its impossible to do when they have no place to sit or no place for there baby sister to sit in our case so I would suggest they remove kid friendly from there search critera how kid friendly can you be when you offer no place for kids to sit?

A couple of weeks ago I visited the Melting PotResturant for my wife's birthday. We came
with another couple. We received 2 separate checks. We paid one and they paid
the other. I few days later we received a call from a manger asking if our
experience was pleasant. Mind you my wife and I frequent the restaurant about
every 3 to 4 months and we have never received a call asking about our
experience. When it comes down to it he was asking why the couple with us only
tipped the waitress $2.We tipped a generous amount since we had no bar tab and
only got the big night out. It totally took us off guard that they called.

I find it not my business to ask someone what they tip at a restaurant. I have
been going to that restaurant for 4 to 5 years and no one has ever called. Did
they call so I would call the other couple in Kentucky to send more money? Or to embarrass
them? Or for us to handle the tip? What was the real reason of the call? I was
so shocked when they called to single us out. I find it really tacky for an
establishment so high end to expect big tips or we'll call you to get our money.
We do no longer feel respected or welcome at that restaurant. We also are not
comfortable knowing that management watches over all including tips that comes
to the restaurant. I have always have recommended that restaurant to family and
friends, but now I am not comfortable doing that anymore because of their call at
home tipping policy. I did contact the owner and his response was that when a Guest leaves a very low tip or no tip at all, that tells me that something is wrong. The tip is the way that Guests tell us that something didn't work for them. They like to find out so they can address the issue and fix it. But like I said my wife and I frequent the restaurant about every 3 to 4 months and we have never received a call asking about our
experience.
You can make your own opion but I think the whole situation was tacky on their part!

i have lived in st. Louis for 8 years, and a restaurant everyone keeps talking about is the MeltingPot. there are two locations, however the one i visited is in university city located on Delmar. the entire staff seemed to be very happy to be there. i could tell that they were all friends, which me feel like a friend when I'd ask for anything special. our waiter, Patrick, provided us with excellent service, he had many good recommendations for how long to cook our meats and which sauces would go well with which meats. but Patrick isn't the only person who made our experience enjoyable, everyone from the person my wife asked to find the bathroom, to the bartender was more than willing to make us feel comfortable. the manager on duty greeted our table, thanked us for dining with them, and asked if we needed anything, to the bare eye he would seem like a responsible man. And then on our way out we saw that same manager was at the bar drinking alcohol. that is the only reason they got a 4 star rating instead of a 5 star rating. we were shocked that someone who was in such a powerful position would take their job so light heartily. we now realize why the wait staff works together so well, they have no help from management. But, no matter what i would recommend this restaurant to anyone. the food was amazing, the service was outstanding, and my wife and I enjoyed my birthday. please go and experience the fun for yourself.

I'm new to St. Louis but have eaten other restaurants in this chain around the country. To celebrate my wedding anniversary, I made reservations. On making the reservation, the staff member asked if I'd like balloons (for a fee) which I agreed to. We arrived at the reservation time. We were told that until diners finished eating that there would not be a table available for us. We waited 45 minutes. Other people who came after us were seated, including several couples and a party of 8. After being re-buffed by the hostess several times, I was more insistent. She checked the computer and found that someone had been seated at our table. She said she'd seat us immediately. She then proceeded to provide service to three more parties who were just arriving. Our 45 minute wait in the bar was frustrating. The guitarist, who was not particularly talented, had the amplifier overly loud for the small bar. We were regaled with "adult contemporary" music for the 1970's. Having lived through that era, I didn't need to revisit it. I won't return to this restaurant. Overall, the staff at this location was incompetent. Given that most of the patrons were in their early 20's, I assume that they don't know any better than to tolerate staff and service like we experienced. Thanks you, MP, for an anniversary evening we will truly remember!

I have been there twice and its been an excellent experience both times--these reviews just show how ill informed and conservative this city really is---if you can't grasp the concept of FONDUE (cooking yourself), a three hour dining experience or are too cheap to embrace a $150 bill, take your 6 kids and go to Cracker Barrel where you belong. You WILL find: great ingredients: good service and a great atmosphere for real conversation with your spouse or friends--no pun intended, but after that it is what you make of it

Very expensive if you are just going for dinner, I would suggest going elsewhere then coming here for the amazing desert which is fairly reasonably priced. Only problem we've had was the horrible service and the price. But if you don't mind waiting a long time and spending a lot of money, this is a great place to go.

Ok the service is terrible, the wait staff had a terrible attitude and it took way to long to get the raw food we cook our selves. The prices are outrageous, and the food was totally bland. They meat was tough because the use 2 choice meat and the veggies wilted and old.

I must admit that before I visited the Melting-P*t I came here and read the reviews, and I was quite skepitcal. However, as soon as I was served my cheese appetizer all those reviews were quelled. The Delmar location is beautiful from the outside, and even more stunning inside, quiet booths await your party and the seclusion factor makes intimate dining very enjoyable. We were seated promptly for our 5:00 reservations, and our server greeted us and got our drinks right away. Our server was courteous and knowledgeable. All total we were there about 2 1/2 hours, allow about 3 for a full experience, and being a full wallet, although the experience was great, it was not cheap. Mixed drinks are the best in town, congrats to the bartender. I would highly reccomend this restaurant for a romantic evening, but the more people you bring along, the better this gets, with the communal cooking cauldron and all. 9.5/10 - $45-55/dinner - $9-10 alcoholic bev.

Pros: very romantic, wonderful desserts and food all around

Cons: not very kid friendly, long sitting period - you may need to stretch mid-meal.

I have been here many times and I love it every time. You should allow yourself at least 3 hours for the dining experience. I always start with the cheese and then move on to one of the meat broths. I do not typically have any chocolate but I do hear it is quite tasty! There are romantic booths in the back, off to the side, or try and get a big table for a birthday party. The meals can become quite pricey, so if you are not a big eater, I suggest sharing.

I took my six year old daughter out for the evening & we both enjoy something different. We only did cheese & dessert, but enjoyed them both. We started with the Wisconsin cheese & enjoyed it. We finished with a chocolate dessert with, I believe marshmellows. We enjoyed, but definately could not finish the dessert. I found the staff accepting of a six year old guest. Good thing! not only am I in the industry, but I am 25% tipper when warranted.

We went here as a birthday treat. It was a group of four which I recommend. This way you get to try two different things. You get a lot of food, so come with an appetite. It is fun and a great group or double date activity. Not for a first date, unless you already really like the person because the meal can last for a while. It is pricey, but worth the splurge. We spent a little over $100. for two people and that included all courses and dessert and a few drinks.

All the negative reviews of "the food was boiled" or "low quality food" grate on me. It's a fondue restaurant, people! Freaking duh. Of COURSE the food is boiled -- you boil it! We all know you don't go to The Melting Pot for the food, but for the experience. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here, had a great time, and would go back in a heartbeat. Leave yourself plenty of time and plenty of stomach room. We ordered the Big Night Out and almost got filled up on the bread and cheese fondue. The steak and lobster were outstanding, and yes, it takes a while for the food to cook (allow the broth to boil completely before dumping in the vegetables or cooking your meats). Gives you plenty of time to talk. Great for a costly first date or a fun night out.

My fiance and I were visiting StLouis melting pot was listed as romantic and sounded like fun, good food. Some of the reviews made me nervous. made reservations for 6PM on Monday. arrived 5:30 and seated immediately. waiter directed us to points in the menu telling how things worked. chose The big night out, includes 4 courses. Cheese fondue, salad main course, dessert. Since my words are limited, on to the dessert. We went with plain milk choc. they bring plate pinapple, strawberries, cheesecake, brownies, poundcake, oreo and grahmcracker covered marshmallows. This is heaven. We had wonderful timeand fantastic meal. The flavor the fondue gave the seafood/ veggies wasn't boiled, had such great taste. We were there for 2 hours. We really enjoyed the relaxed pace. While eating a lot of food, spreading it out so long kept us from feeling uncomfortably full. The atmosphere is romantic. The booths very private. The staff was kind.

Every time I visit The Melting Pot I come away with a new memory. In August my husband and I sat across from two Cardinal players and their wives. They were friendly and chatted with us which only added to the night's experience. The food was great and the service was superb. The wine list is extensive. Recently we visited with several family members and purchased a package of flowers for my sister who was celebrating her birthday. What a thrill this was for her. Again, the food was great and the staff was very knowledgeable. We go often and seldom have trouble getting a reservation if we call a week - 10 days in advance!

Since when did the French invent Fondue? Oh yea I remember they didn't......
This restaurant is also trying to be something it is not. A great St. Louis restaurant. Avoid the poor quality food served up by attitude. Ill never eat there again.

I visited the Melting Pot because I heard it was nice, expensive, and different from the typical restaurants. I also thought the food was just a little bland and could have used a lot more seasonings. But I give kudo's on the romantic atmosphere. I would probably go back and try something else on a special occasion.

This is my all-time favorite restaraunt!! The fondue is to die for!! The atmosphere is great- dark with candlelight (very romantic). But, make sure you make reservations and dinner will take about 2-3 hours. It is expensive- but, in my opinion definitely worth it!

This place is really over-rated. The food was of very poor quality as well as the service. I think the only posative feedback is from the owner. Dont even bother going there, you will only be wasting your money. Small portions, poor quality food. Thay try to up-sale you on EVERYTHING. Boiled food. yuck. Spend you money on a sitter for the kids and eat elsewhare. You will thank me!

This place was way over priced and had very very poor quality food. The service was terrible. The desert was a rip-off and nothing about the place is good. I will never eat there again.

Pros: None

Cons: Parking, Price, Quality of food

.

Very very good food here. The service and atmosphere are very pleasing as well. The biggest downside would be the price for anyone on a budget, as the meals get pricy.

the food was below average. All of the meat selections were brought out on one plate (raw chicken touching raw shrimp, beef, etc.) and the fish/seafood was not that fresh. The service was good, great explanation/detail on how to cook the food, but the food still tasted - boiled. The desserts were the best part.

I read reviews about the Melting Pot before going and they were very split, so we decided to check it out. It was indeed a great experience. It's a great place to celebrate something special. The fondue style meal allows you to converse, enjoy the food and wine, and relax during the meal. The staff was very prompt and knowledgeable as well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

The U. City Melting Pot is one of my favorite spots in town. Not only do I go there for special events like birthdays and anniversaries, but it is great place to take clients to eat. The food is excellent and the relaxed atmosphere and pace of the meal allows you to really get to know someone. The place isn't great for kids with hot burners right in the middle of the table.

A reserved seating time has no meaning after about 8pm - so our (second) waiter told us. We arrived early for our 9:30 reservation, were seated at 10:00 (!!), met our first waiter at 10:10 and had our drinks from our second waiter at 10:20, at which point he realized that the fondue pot wasn't on, resulting in an even longer wait to eat. (Good thing they finally turned the pot on, because our dessert fruit was still frozen.) The ambience was shattered by our cramped booth next to a high-traffic intersection (waitstaff yelling "corner!" as they zip by tends to interrupt the mood).
$40 for frozen fruit and an hour of "CORNER!"? Not worth it.

Cons: , Food not ready, Noisy

Where to begin,
The food is boiled; I know I boiled it myself. The choice is water or water with bouillon added, which is EXTRA I might add. Although they used second hand cuts, which are cheap for them, they still charge premium price. The vegetables were not crisp at all also indicating that they were past their prime. The wine was way over priced as was the whole meal. I went on a business dinner and expensed the whole thing so it wasnt my money. The good news was you will hardly ever see your waiter so there are no interruptions. It was just as well as he had an attitude. My guest actually asked me if I had eaten there before and told him no and I dont think I will again.

This is not a good place. The food is way over priced, and under quality. The service is really poor and they way over charge for the wine. If I were you I would go elsewhere to eat. Even the dessart is over rated. You might want to read all of the reviews before you go!

This place was BAD. Everything that could go wrong went that way. What a sell up, they hope the dimly lit dinner atmosphere and cheap wine will somehow make them a great restaurant, Please. We tried to discuss our displeasure with the manager but were unsuccessful. Their feelings were "who needs you" They should give you a tip for eating there. My Tip is Dont Go There

Our Party of four had a great time. Service was much better then I expected. Food was exceptional and plenty of it. Go hungry! Dessert is to die for. The wine list is endless.

Next time, it's me and the lady.

If you want ample parking, go to one of those chain restaurants like Applebees or Casa. If you want to save money, go to McDonalds. If you want an amazing meal, go to the Melting Pot. You really do get what you pay for. You are going to have an expensive meal and you are going to wait to be seated, just make reservations and don't eat there every weekend. This restaurant is not for everyone, don't bring kids, but do bring an appetite and your wallet. This is a strictly special occassion restaurant. This meal might be the best you have had in a long while.

Cons: , Expensive, NEED reservations

Well my review is a little negative. I guess i should have read all of the reviews. The food was marginal at best and rather bland. There is no rush to finish dinner which was nice, but it would have been nicer to see the server more often as or glasses went dry a few times.

Really a disapointment, Everything is extra and they always push you to upgrade your meal. The food is boiled, and Oh you want something other than water to cook it in? Sorry thats extra. The wine was ok but over priced. I do not recomend it...

The bill was way too much and the wait was terrible. Save time and money, go eat Italian.

The waitstaff in this chain outlet will try hard to sell you up to the feast, but instead have the cheese fondue appetizer and the salad, skip the main course, which is short on both quality and quantity, and finally savor the chocolate fondue dessert. Result: a nice light meal.

I think the Melting Pot should be higher on the dessert rating and not be compared with frozen custard, which is not a real dessert but rather a frozen treat to be eaten anytime.
The cookies and cream chocolate fondue with dark chocolate is heavenly and the only fault I have with the restaurant is that they don't give you enough strawberries for dipping. I could skip the cheesecake and brownie and go for more fruit!
I have been there many times in the past year (I'm new to St. Louis) and always think I'll try a different chocolate fondue, but I end up ordering the cookies and cream!

You must be able to spend 2-3 hours on a dinner here. It is wonderful. With the dim lighting and the beautiful smells and great wine this is the perfect place. You have to be able to enjoy the company you are with because this is fondue and your dinner will take up to 3 hours to be over, so make sure you are in good company! You must have the desert as well. Warm choclate over fresh pineapple. Think it isn't for you? If you love sweetness met with the exploding juices in your mouth of the freshest fruit you have tasted, it is!

I enjoyed the company, other than that, the food was not worth the price they charged. The service was okay, the area they sat us in was freezing. We won't be returning unless it is for dessert. I suggest you eat dinner elsewhere and go there for dessert. I don't know why reservations are necessary because they don't seat you at that time. We waited 1/2 hour after our reservations before we were seated. I think they need to get over themselves.

We had reservations at 830PM, but did not sit until 9:15, what WAS the point of the reservation then?!! The food was alright, fresh, but not much choiced for vegetarians, I asked for a few more pieces of vegetables... and they wanted to charge me for it?!! After we already ordered about 75 dollars worth of food??!! It was a nice place, and you have the time to savour your food, but management MUST ensure that they allot enough time and not make people wait for so long for overpriced food... will not be making a second trip.

The atmosphere was nice, but the food is extremely overpriced and not a good place for vegetarians. There are no options for non-meat eaters.

The desert is to die for. My recomendation is to go out for dinner and stop by The Melting Pot for desert. Save yourself $90.

My wife and I went there on our anniversary. Very romantic - each booth is like it's own little world. Excellent meal. We did fondue for two and came out full but not stuffed. I didn't find it pricey at all. Nice wine list, very reasonable. Great lounge with Naked Mike singing great Beatles covers and others. Great bar - they know how to party! We'll be back.

This is the best place to go if you enjoy fondue. It is definitely a romantic place to eat. The only down side to that is that it can be a bit pricey sometimes. Other than that I think it is great.
