BEWARE OF GREAT AMERICAN TITLE! DO NOT USE THIS TITLE COMPANY!
My life has recently been turned upside down and according to my attorney could lose my home due to Great American Title not catching a tax deed on my title search before I closed on my home. After 3 years of owning my home a man came to my door step and said he owned my home and has been paying taxes on my home as well and handed me his collectors deed for taxes. (This man is also widely known throughout Jasper County and other title companies for being a crook and could not show proof of paying taxes on my home which I do have proof that i paid my taxes) This is now March, I notified Great American Title of this incident in August. Great American Title still have not settled with this man about his tax deed. A woman from Great American Title keeps telling me that everything's okay and this is why I have title insurance and that I won't loose my home but these things don't get done overnight...she has been telling me this same line since August! Recently I received a certified letter from the man claiming to own my home. In his letter he states that he owns my home free and clear even if he tries to evict me and fails. He also states his attorney thinks that he could move me out of my home legally but since I haven't done anything wrong this man is going to allow me permission to stay at his home (which is actually the place i have called home for 3 years) until further notice and he wants me to start paying him $300 a month!!! After this I got my own attorney to represent my behalf because clearly Great American Title was not doing their job. My attorney told me that I actually do have a chance of losing my home and this man who showed on my door step could legally start an eviction process. Great American Titles attorney has had a chance to settle with this man who wants $25,000 but Great American Title only offered $5,000 which this man will not except and began harassing me in the mean time causing constant stress! Now this gets better while all this is going on I have a leaking roof from this last snow storm and now my living room ceiling looks like it could cave in with a torrential rain. If I'm going to lose my home why would I want to spend thousands repairing my roof for someone else???? I bought title insurance and it is not being used! What good was purchasing it if I lose my home? I would think that paying this man 25,000 to go away would be cheaper than having to pay me 69,000 to relocate. Also now according to Jasper county court house assessors office my name is no longer on my home when they look up my address although they have that I have been paying taxes recorded since 2007! I asked the assessors office how could this be changed and she replied that it would first have to come down from the recorders office. (back tracking a little my name has been changed 3 times through this office starting out at Brittney c Botello then going to Brittney C Botello ETAL (means and others which I had no clue what this abbreviation was and I didn't look into it) ) the next year and now my name is off my address through the assessors office and this man with a tax collection deeds name is on my home. So according to what the assessors office told me their should be 3 different entries at the recorders office for my name changing but their is only one back in 2007 when this man turned in his tax collection deed before my title company gave the recorders office my information on buying my home. But instead of his name being on the house first, I was put on their and I had no acknowledgment of this man until 3 years later. And now 3 years later they remove my name from my home which I have been paying taxes on without my knowing my name was ever changed. This situation has been an absolute horror and is still going. Great American Title is at total fault with my situation, I bought my home completely legitimate and purchased title insurance. Great American title attorneys believes he can settle with this man for less money but in the mean time that this Great American Title attorney will not settle I'm in a position where this man could start an eviction process. This company needs to go out of business it is not right to do this to people who haven't done ANYTHING WRONG!!!
