Ajax Moving & Express

I just moved a couple weeks ago and it went smoothly.I couldn't have asked for better service.They were on time and handled my move promptly.They were professional from start to finish.
My stuff was packed securely and arrived in perfect condition.They were also reasonably priced.I highly recommend Ajax Moving.

Never, ever, hire Ajax Moving.

Arranged for Ajax to move us a week before the move, explained to receptionist over the course of several phone calls exactly what had to be moved, even offered to fax her a list of items to be moved, she said no need. Specifically asked if we could have them move boxes as well as furniture, she said no problem. Also asked if we needed them for more than the 3 hour min. if that was OK, she said it was fine, we would just have to pay the $65 an hour for any additional time.

The two movers - an older & younger man, showed up @ 8am as expected. I showed him what needed to be moved and he tells me there's way more than he was told needed to be moved (not true), that it would take all day, and he wouldnt do it.

Stunned, I said this was moving day, I *have* to move today, and he told me to open the phone book & find someone else, he was leaving. I called the office thinking the mover was just an employee and there was a boss or manager at the office whom could straighten this out. The receptionist tells if the mover says he wont move me, theres nothing she can do. Getting upset, I asked whom else can I talk to, she mentions someone's name, but says he won't be back for half an hour, I can call back. I ask who this person is, and she tells me it's the mover - who's still at my apt - so I ask why would I wait 30 min to talk to him when I can go out to the curb & talk to him right now?

Im thinking there has a way to work this out, so I go outside, very upset, and tell him this is wrong, that I had arranged all this a week ago,and that he cant just abandon the job, leaving me with no movers on moving day.

He tells me Im disrespecting him, that I had better watch out. Then demands to know if I disrespected his wife - apparently this is literally a mom & pop shop, turns out the wife is the secretary, the man threatening me is the husband and his helper is the son. He becomes very angry, gets in my face and tells me I had better not have disrespected his wife, and begins acting in very a threatening manner. I continue pleading my case, saying I had told them in advance everything that needed to be moved, so what is the problem?

He gets in my face, says you better not make me... (implying hes going to hit me) yells at his son to call your mother and see if he disrespected her and looks like hes going to punch me at any minute. At this point I realize this is either going to end with both of us in the back of a squad car, or Im going to have to walk away and lock myself in the apartment, which is what I did.

In all seriousness, I could not, in good conscience, ever recommend Ajax to anyone. The bad attitude, fearing I was going to be assaulted... walking out of a pre-arranged deal, I can't imagine anyone being worse.

During my frantic call around looking for a replacement mover, I spoke to one of the major movers in St. Louis who told me he wasn't surprised by my experience. He said at least once a month they get calls saying that Ajax or 2 men & a truck never showed up.
