This place is nothing but a joke. I have never left a hibachi grill hungry before until tonight. Service was beyond horrid. Above that, one of the cooks friends brought him a shot of alcohol while he was cooking our meal. They sat us next

The service is horrible and our cook didnt even do any tricks or talk at all. He also didnt ask us anything about our food and ended up getting steak that was cooked too long for me and had random sauce on it. THERE WAS NO FRIED RICE.

Just left from there and the place is horrible. The first grades chairs that you sit in are filthy as hell. The smell is almost unbearable. The prices are rediculous. It really needs a make over. The food was ok, but could have been cooked

I hadn't been to Gojo's in forever. I went last night with some friends. Everything was absolutely wonderful and delicious... until at the very end of our meal, a ROACH crawled across the table where the chef cooks a few times. We finishing up our conversation and were getting ready to leave when I glanced over and saw a roach crawling back and forth on the table... Don't think I will be going back. There are pleanty of good Japanese Steakhouses in the Northland that are bug free. So GROSS!

ok, at one time they rocked. now it smells like a toilet when you walk in the door. realllly needs painted and the carpet needs replaced. the staff are bored and stiff, just going thru the motions.
the food is the same. tastes good. the chef has to be in a really good mood to give a good show and interact with the diners. otherwise you get an old guy that is robotic and unsmiling.
the guy sitting at the reserv-desk when i went just wanted to be somewhere else. poor, poor man, makin' all that money to spend later and doesn't have the time or energy to act as if we are important.

My husband and I went there with our family and the food was quite tasty however the place is not clean and the shrimp are not deviened you would think for the price they could serve shrimp that is deviened. I thought it was against health code to serve shrimp that is not deveined. I don't think they clean those grills very well. My granddaughter and I both got very Sick after eating there we had to take my granddaughter to the emergency room. The food is great but you take a chance of getting sick eating there. I am afraid to eat there again.

Pros: Taste Good Yellow Sauce Is Great

Cons: Appearance Dark / Not Clean Dirty Carpet

So my wife really used to love this place..so we decided to go out to eat one Sunday evening and thought Gojos would be a nice treat. Well, treat was definitely the wrong description to give that last experience. The establishment needs a severe overhaul. It absolutely smells horrible and you wear it w/ you when you leave. The food..geeze, the food taste like bottom of the the barrel seafood and dirt grazed beef. It is NOT like what we'd remembered. I don't know, maybe a few buckets of paint, some plug-in airfreshners and a new waitressing staff could help change the environment around. But then again, that doesn't fix the cheap taste of their food!

Pros: Hard to find any anymore

Cons: The smell of the place and taste of food

I like how they give you the courses: the salad, the rice and shrimp (and the Hollondaise sauce is great! I thought it looked nasty at first, but once I tasted it, it is great!), then your main course (it doesn't look like it is a lot of food, but once you start eating all the courses, it will fill you up and most of the time, we have to take home a little To Go Box.) and the sherbet they give you at the end!! Whew--ewewew!

Ok here it is I have been coming to this restaurant since I first used chopstix. Right when you walk in the door you may have well just teleported to a back ally in japan. the food is amazing and for those of you who don't like the "yellow stuff" its just hollandaise, and yeah it is delicious. if you like hollandaise, otherwise leave it. the green stuff is spinach and if you don't like it leave it. they will throw shrimp at you so be ready and if you don't like the atmosphere its because you have never traveled outside your own comfortable little box, get out go to gojo's not just the food the atmosphere.

Cons: it is built to resemble hidden diner in a back ally in Japan

The staff was acting like they were doing us a favor by waiting on us. The table was sticky and the cook had most of the food on the counter as he was cutting it. I remember when that place was the best. Oh and the yellow stuff they call sauce... for get it I did want gravy. Oh what a waste... they need to remodel and clean up the place. Oh and Japanese restaurants should have someone Japanese working in it some where. If felt like Mexico!

Cons: Rude staff and very dirty

I have eaten at Gojo's many times. It is okay, but I love the entertainment. I called to make reservations for a medium crowd for a weekend, and was told they do not make reservations for large crowds on weekends. Isn't that what reservations are for? They are still making the money either way. I was really stumped by this because I wasn't trying to make a reservation for 20 or 30 people, only 12. After that bit of information, my friends and I will find elsewhere to go.

Thanks Gojo's!

I went here for my birthday and had a blast. My bf set up reservations so we were seated quickly. The food that they give you throughout the cooking presentation is great and is not included as part of the price for your actual entree. Had a great time meeting new people and enjoying the show. Oh beware of the fire though, it can get kind of hot when they set the grill ablaze.

Any viewer that rates the food less than 4 stars doesn't have appreciation for good food. The food is excellent, there is entertainment, and the atmosphere is relaxing. The reason why I didn't rate it a 5 was because I had problems with making reservations in the past. When you call, the host(ess) acts as if they could care less if you come or not, and I found that to be a problem. Other than that, this has been one of my favorite restaurants for 10 years or more.

OMG -- I've been to a few Japanese steak houses in my lifetime and this one is by far the worst. The place is smokey, dark and dirty...What is up with that yellow sauce. Yuck!!! How can anyone like this place...I'll never go back. My friend and I both got a sick after eating here. I was suprised no one asked me how to cook my steak. Prices are reasonable but not worth it at all.

The host did not welcome me as I walked in the door, rather he grunted and pointed to the bar, when I asked if anyone else from my party had arrived. Upon our group being seated, which was also an event, we were never offered another drink besides the water we were given in plastic cups. They immediately wanted to take our orders, by the way all must order immediately, no exceptions. The cook made the meal at the table, in shifts, by the time we had our plates in front of us the sides were cold. As we were still finishing our deserts and paying they began to set items on the table to reset it for the next group, which was odd as there were several other tables available. It was a weird and disappointing meal to say the least.

My family and I have been going to GoJo' since I was a little gill. the atmosphere is good, the prices are very reasonable, the portions are huge, and the food is THE BEST! Their "Yellow Sauce", to die for!!!I I've been to other Japanese Steak Houses throughout the metro and non of them can even come close to comparing. It's getting harder and harder to get reservations throughout the weekend and the seating is very tight, but other then that this is a great and fun place to eat. I would highly recommend this expierence.

As I have read the all the rave reviews about this place, I myself nor most of the 19 person party was not a fan and would recommend other restaurants. I'm not one to "bad mouth" a place of business, but I have been to many Japanese steak houses throughout the Metro and this was/is by far the worst. If you don't mind the look of being in an old ship (?) and don't mind rubbing elbows with the other guest, as the table are very small, then this is the place for you. Although the price is very reasonable, I for one would rather pay more for more. The soup tasted of Ramen noodles and I couldn't grasp the concept of the soggy croutons placed in it. The "so crazed" yellow sauce did nothing but try to cover up the not so good white rice. Vegetables consisted of nothing more than potatoes (which was confusing) onions, mushrooms and very few zucchini. Be prepared to drink only water, coke or sprite as that is all they offer. Unless you proceed to the bar or order the very small bottle(s) of Sake. I?d suggest keep driving down the street to the Plaza until you end at Hibachi's Japanese Steak House.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: You get what you pay for

I'll never understand people's fascinacition with Japanese steakhouses. The people who love these places must be the same sort of people who are often distracted by random shiny objects. It doesnt matter which one you go to, they are all the same. They all do the exact same show, flaming onion and toss shrimp at the customers. The food is all the same. Your choice of chicken, shrimp, and steak cooked on a flat top with a lame brown sauce. The price you pay is rediculous. If you went to any decent sit down restaurant in town and you ordered steak and shrimp for $22 and recieved what you get at gojos you would never return. I know, I know, you pay for the show. But couldnt they at least mix it up a little once in a while? Couldnt they add just a little flavor? As, for it being japanese. Teppanyaki is about as close to authentic japanese as Fazolis is to authentic Italian. For the amount you end up spending you get get a fantastic dinner at a thousand other places.

Gojo is the first Japanese steakhouse I ever tried.....and to this day it's still my favorite! The "yellow stuff" and the "green stuff" - yummmmmo! The chefs are a lot of fun, and the wait staff is quick and attentive. The prices are so reasonable, I always have to leave a very generous tip because 20% isn't much on such a small check.

My family of four went to Gojo's for the first time last night. As soon as you walk in the decor sets the mood for a great night. The food was fantastic. The yellow sauce and spinach sauce are both a must have. Even my sometimes picky 6yr old asked for more. Dessert at the end was a nice suprise and a perfect compliment to the meal.

Not only was the food great but is is also very affordable. We ate till we were stuffed and each took home doggy bags, all for just under $50. Do call ahead and make reservations though. It is a very popular spot.

The ONLY thing that would have made it a perfect night would have been more of a show. After the intial fire, and tossing of shrimp, there wasn't much more. As this was my two sons first time at a Japanese steakehouse I was hoping for at least an onion volcano.

Overall it was a great night and I am sure that it will become a new favorite of ours.

I been going to Gojo's since I was a tot. My mom still takes me to this day. I been there 7-10 times a year since I was 5. It is truely the best japanese place I've been too. I love the atmosphere. I have always been amazed by the chefs cooking right in front of you on the table you eat on! I suggest you move back.. It is really hot haha. But I recommend this place to take family, friends, even a date. My boyfriend and I go there a lot. It's a lot of fun! So if you haven't been there yet... You should go! The prices are great, the staff os amazing and the atmosphere is outstanding!!! =]

Pros: Everything is outstanding

Cons: none.

GOJOs is one of the best japanese steakhouse one can experience. The staff is always friendly and willing to help. The atmosphere changes drastically once inside. The amount of food is unbelievable. This is said for a lot of places but not all places offer the variety followed by the cool suprise dessert. I strongly recommend this as a place to take people for any occasion. But please do not expect to walk in and be seated without a reservation. If going on a Friday or Saturday night, call by Tuesday. Try the sauce. i wasn't sure what it was the first time and was very hesitant but now I am hooked.

Good food and fun. It's really busy on Sauturdays so try another night. The smoking onion volcanos are cute for the kids and make the ladies giggle. Watch out for the flying shrimp, one may put your eye out! Good for dates and kids.

Gojo's Japanese Steak House is a wonderful restaurant. It is located in the Westport area and is in a convenient location. Every meal comes with soup, salad, vegetables, shrimp, rice and the wonderful meal. I always enjoy ordering the teriaki chicken and crabmeat. The shrimp appetizer comes with a wonderful green sauce that is out of this world. It is a great place for a couple or a group of friends. The meal is ended with a bowl of sherbert.

I have been dining at GoJo's for over 20 years now and in over 75 visits I have never had a bad experience. The service is wonderful the atmosphere is great. For the price you pay you can't find more food or better quality anywhere else in Kansas City. Make sure you get the yellow and green sauce and put it on your rice too.... IT DELISCIOUS! Make reservations well in advance or plan to wait.... especially if you are late for your reservation..... I take all my friends and family here and out of town guest and have never met anyone who isn't thoroughly impressed.

Gojo's is hands down THE Japanese Steakhouse to go to. I've gone there on dates, with a group of friends and with my entire family--from my grandma to my toddler. Everyone loves that place! And considering we had eight people in our party last time and the check was right at $100.00--how could you go wrong?!?!

The sauces are too good for words--you'll want to put them on everything! And the salad and soups, though simple, are extraordinary! Bring your eat on and enjoy--Gojo's is the best!!!

Everyone will have fun at Gojo's! A night out with the girls, or a family birthday birthday party. Every occassion calls for Gojo's! :) We've been going there for special occasions since I was a kid, and it's still at the top of our list! The atmonsphere is great. The food is even better. Be sure to try the green and yellow sauces!

If you are purely looking for best food, then Hibachi or the one at Crown Center is probably for you. But when you factor in the price, this food is a steal. The service was good and it is probably the most authentic looking Japanese restaurant in the city.
