Regarding The Library LTD. Bookstore. Awesome place. i worked there in the early 90's, and miss it to this day. Sad that it got taken over by Borders. If any former employees, managers, etc...read this, please respond and we'll catch up on old times. I recall Carol, St. Anthony Hicks, Mary, Leland Wolff, Tony ( the highly intense guy who got fired), and of course Allan and Terry.

Having worked at the Library, Ltd. and the Borders in Brentwood (among others) I have to take issue with the scathing review posted above. Yes, the LL was a bookselling bastion in St. Louis. However, Borders did not come in and "take over" as many people mistakenly believe. The original owners decided to retire, and, instead of simply closing, looked for someone else to carry on. Please ask yourself if you would really have rather had that the store closed. I can speak from experience that many of the same managers and booksellers who were at the LL are still with the store in Brentwood; others have moved to area Borders stores to continue their bookselling careers. In many tangible ways, including the number and variety of books carried and sold, the Borders in Brentwood is a much better BOOKstore than the Library, Ltd. ever was. After 10 years+ it is well past the tiime for St Louisans with sentimental memories to keep the breast beating goin.

This store is over two floors of books, magazines, CDs, vidoes, etc. It is always quite busy, but the line goes quickly. The children's section is very inviting and out of the way. A nice place to spend the afternoon.

For anyone who loves going to the mega book stores to get a legal upper in a cup, Borders is for you. I especially like the ability to go, pick out a book, and browse through it in thier ultra comfy chairs. For stress relief, a visit to Border's is up there pretty high on the list.

This store is very well built and the overall calmness of the store is great. The staff is always present everywhere you turn and they are ready to assist you in anything you may need. The Borders stores always have great deals on books but are a little pricey on the music considering there is a cheaper "Circuit City" next door. The only concerns is the layout of the store and the Title Sleuth not being able to locate books correctly with the layout. Overall this is a very good store!

PROS: Customer Service, Book Prices, Store Image
CONS: CD/DVD Pricing, Layout(Title Sleuth)

Library Ltd - YES, by far the BEST BOOK STORE AROUND - UNTILl Borders came along and purchased it - and promptly closed it down!!! It was a local tradition - a source of pride. And now it's gone - and in its place, another generic, blase Borders store that looks just like all the other Borders stores nationwide! None of the character of the old independents. So - I vote YES to the old, and now defunct Library Ltd.; but NO to its replacement - "BORED"ERS!

Pros: It sells books, Discounted prices, Better than nothing

Cons: KILLED LIBRARY LTD!!!, No local interest, impersonal

You should have to put up with the Borders in Memphis where I live. At its best it never compared to your Brentwood Borders in St. Louis, and the book selection in Memphis gets worse every year. I would be in book heaven with a Borders like the one on Brentwood Blvd. The Religion and Philosophy book sections are excellent; they rival the ones at the N. Metcalf Borders in Kansas City and the Buckhead Borders in Atlanta. Quit your bellyachin' and appreciate what you have.
