I bought an old car as a temporary driving car. Took it to joes. Gigantic waste of money. I asked for a tuneup, oil change, and safety inspection. They didn't change the plugs or air filter. Don't even know if they did anything. The biggest concern, they passed my vehicle when the ball joints and tie rods are completely shot. The wheels are shaking around and could fall off at any second. $220 for what? They didn't even change the plug wires. They will not be receiving any business from me. If it weren't for my neighbors owning a shop, the lazy mechanics at Joe's could've cost someone their life.

My daughter has a Mazda 626 than needs a periodic and expensive timing belt replacement. I had a Mazda dealer replaced the belt -- Bommarito, big mistake! About a month later a belt pulley fell off and disabled the car. We took it to Joes. They showed us exactly what broke and fixed it. The mistake by the dealer mechanic was obvious. Sadly the dealer refused to honor their work.

And now the dealers wonder why their business has vaporized! Why buy a new car when there are honest mechanics who can help you keep your current car running for a reasonable price?

I took a car I was wanting to buy to another garage. They found approx $500.00 worth of work that needed to be done. I bought the car with that knowledge. I took the car to Joe's. Told them everything that I had been told. They told me nothing had to be done. The car was in perfect shape.

He could have told me whatever he had wanted to. I trust them completely there.

I have taken a wide variety of automobiles to Joe's Garage, from MG's to Corvettes and even my Jaguar - Never before or since have I found someone who gave me great service and the straight scoop on what needed to be fixed. The work was always excellent and sound. There were even one time when I took my Corvette in to have new valve cover gaskets put on because I was seeing leaking. Instead of gouging me for a new set of gaskets, he just tightened up the bolts and said lets see what that does before we put on the gaskets. It worked great by the way. It has been three years since I have moved away from STL but to date I have not found ANYONE that even comes close to the integrity that this shop holds as their business model. If anyone reading this has any questions or hesitations whatsoever, contact me at fmurphy@compu-doctors.com and I will be more than happy to give you my personal perspective.

My dad was ASE certified 11 years ago, but he doesn't want to do auto work any more and Joe is the guy he uses. I have used him twice in the past on my dad's recommendation. He is a great guy - honest, punctual, and quite reasonable with his prices. You can really tell this guy just loves working on cars. I would recommend this guy to anybody. After terrible experiences with people like Dobbs and Maaco, it's really refreshing to deal with someone who is passionate about his job and isn't a greedy thief.

PROS: Honest, punctual, cost-effective
CONS: I really can't think of any. Kinda far down manchester, I guess.
