I've been into this store a few times and have had excellent customer service and was greeted with kindness. If your experience was less than expected, I'd definitely try it again as maybe you or that worker was having an off day. (as we all do) This is a very unique store to the city and I will definitely go back for all of my lighting needs.

Bette Smith giving her awful store 5 stars is unbelievable! She herself is the rudest battle axe of them all. Both she and her husband should have retired years ago!

A few years ago I had the exact same experience which happened to Double Trouble in 2010. I too entered Dave Smith's with a vintage lamp needing a shade. The clerk kept directing me towards pairs of shades....yet I only had one lamp! I purchased a small shade at over $40 and she charged me for two shades and packed two into the box. I am a three hour drive from KC, and had I not caught this, a terribly inconvenient return trip would have been necessary. The female clerk was near retirement age and not pleasant. Of course she wasn't pleasant, she was trying to rip me off!

My husband broke a lamp I loved. When I found out he took it to Dave Smith, I thought, "Why bother?"
Everytime I've gone in there, it has been a woefully disapointing experience. And this time was was no different.
Another example, I once tried to replace a lamp shade there & got into a debate with the clerk about it. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Needless to say, I found the shade elsewhere and will continue to look for a good place to have my treasured lamp repaired.

I am writing this review in response to to reviews of our business that I have read. Dave and I have worked hard to put a business in the Waldo area for people to be proud of and to service the community to our best ability. I have read the reviews and am very disappointed with some of the them. I want to apologize to any customers we have not served right and hope that they will give us a second chance. We try very hard to give good customer service and work hard with the community. Please let me know personally what I can do for you. Thank you.

I would have given this place no stars if it was possible. I called to ask about a vintage light I needed fixed and the woman on the phone could NOT have been more rude. Her answer to everything was "nope can't do it." And when I asked about other places I could call she was just rude and mean and so discouraging I actually hung up the phone. I will never go back there.

My husband called and spoke with Dave regarding a part for our antique chandelier. Dave told him we should bring it in and he would take a look at it or the employees could help with it. Upon arrival at the store, there were three ladies standing behind the counter chatting. I was greeted and asked if I needed help. I told them my husband had spoke with Dave regarding a part for our antique chandelier and was told "Dave is very busy, has been out of town and just leave it-he will take a look at it". I asked if they could help and showed them the problem with the chandelier and they told me Dave would have to look at it. I told them that would be fine and left it with them. Went in the next day and the ladies were still standing around chatting behind the counter and I was told that "Dave is out to lunch, is still really busy and has a business to run". I asked them to give me our chandelier back and that "I thought this WAS business". My impression is their definition of "business" is the time they spend talking about their personal lives at work. They did not say a thing to me, handed me the box with our chandelier in it, I said thank you and I promptly left. What a waste of time.

I brought in an antique lamp for which I needed a shade. The clerk kept looking for a pair of shades, even though I kept reminding her that I only had one lamp. I decided on a very unusual, lovely silk shade...rather expensive. Upon paying the bill, I noticed the clerk had charged me for two shades & packed two in my box. I assumed she worked on commission & was determined to sell me a pair of shades. Perhaps I was to wear one as a hat?

A couple of years ago I brought a rare antique bronze lighthouse lamp to Dave. It had been lit from within at one time, but I could not figure out how it should be done properly and without diminishing the value of the piece. Dave knew exactly how to design the lighting and cord and gave me his opinion that it was an old fixture that bolted to a table found in a ship. The lamp was a piece that belonged to my brother who'd always said that he wanted to someday restore the light, so I planned it as a surprise for his birthday. He just loves it! The workmanship was top-notch. We highly recommend this business!

These people have helped me time after time (since the mid-'80's)! I have had a piece of marble set into a table, and Dave lighted it from underneath, for me. I have bought unusual items at an antique shop, and Dave turned them into accent lighting. I have many Blenko glass teardrop finials (no longer made), which eventually come separated from their brass screw-on base. They have always been able to repair these for me. Amazing ingenuity!

Over priced. Owners are rude. WalMart quality with high priced items. Go elsewhere for the same items. Owner claims to be a real interior decorator. Ask for proof.

This is a well known lamp shop that carries high-end lamps and fixtures. Most of their items are expensive, but good quality. The lamps they sell are made of solid materials and will last a long time. The staff is very helpful and good at making recommendations. They are able to special order many items. They also carry ceiling fans and have some of the higher end brands that provide good warranties. I would recommend if you are looking for lighting for your home.
