Let me just preface this review by saying that I am a big bargain-ista, I love to shop, and I am not only on a budget but I just HAVE to get a GREAT DEAL! I will never pay retail :) My kids wear the cutest clothes- and I never pay more than a couple bucks for something.
If you are used to paying retail, or even sale retail prices, then Children's Orchard may appeal to you (that's how I was when I was pregnant with #1)....their prices are approximately half of retail FULL price, sometimes more sometimes less. But certainly NOT a bargain, unless you hit the clearance/play clothes rack- which is a small rack especially compared to their floor-to-ceiling stuffed to the gills of regular priced stuff.
I hit up our Goodwill a 2-3 a month, which here in Columbia we have a fantastic Goodwill store; I always find lots of practically new or new name-brand stuff there- for $1 or $2 a piece!! NOTHING at Children's Orchard is that cheap.
So, $8 or $10 for a dress or jeans may seem like a deal compared to full price at the mall, but it is like highway robbery compared to Goodwill, yard sales, or other thrift stores. In fact, they had some Gymboree leggings I just saw at the mall in the .99 bin- for 5.99, I am not kidding. I wish I was!
I also am not a huge fan of Children's Orchard as they are not always super friendly, in fact they are sometimes rude. Whenever they are polite, it seems a bit forced IMHO. One time I went because I happened to be on that side of town eating lunch with my husband and I had forgotten my wallet so I borrowed his debit card to make a small purchase. With two children, and a wedding band on, the clerk snidely said, "Is this your boyfriend's debit card...?". What?? I am all of 28, nicely dressed, and I am not sure why on earth she said that. Unbelievable, really.
Today I went to sell back a large shopping bag full of brand new with tags name brand clothing (polyester, which we do not wear). It was nice stuff, worth well over $100 I am sure. I got $26 in store credit for it all.(!)..which wouldn't be a surprise if their stuff was cheap, but with their prices it's like they give you $1 (in store credit of course) for something they'd sell for $8 or $9. I am sorry, but that's ridiculous.
Their toys and baby gear is way over-priced. An old Little Tikes baby slide was $20- the kinda thing you see on Craig's List for $10, max. A jogging stroller, from Wal-Mart, $75- same thing on craig's list maybe $30. Basically unless you are extremely nit-picky about it looking brand-new, go to craig's list or a yard sale and you'll get it for half or less of what they charge. Spray if with Pledge like they do and voila it looks brand new.
The one star is because I do like to get sun hats or winter hats and mittens there on occasion, because they are generally $1 and there are lots. Sometimes they will have nice shoes like keen or robeez for a decent price.
Otherwise, Children's Orchard is overpriced and overstuffed (gee I wonder why?). Go up the road to Goodwill and you will spend a fraction.
If you have to sell stuff back, be prepared to be insulted by the amount they offer you.

Children's Orchard is Awesome!!!!! I find designer clothes that my daughter wants, that look brand new, that fits our budget. She can get more clothes for the price of one pair of jeans at the mall. They are constantly getting in new things so you can always find what you are looking for. The Staff is always very friendly and helpful! The returns are hassle free, as long as the tag is still on it and selling clothes to them is easy and fast.....We Love Children's Orchard and I highly recommend the store to my family & friends!!! We always get a 5 Star treatment when we go the Columbia, Mo Store! Thanks....Amy and staff!

This store had been such a blessing. I have been able to find quality second hand children's clothing for my kids for a fraction of the cost. I have also bought Christmas gifts there.
