The city market coffee house is such a great find. The baristas make the best lattes in the city hands down. They have delicious blends of coffee that they roast in house which is definitely unique in this city. I also love the feel of the place with the exposed brick and spiral staircase-it has such character. Highly recommended!

It's not very polite to take in another business's product and ask for service on that. Would you take a half cooked pizza hut pizza into papa murphy's and ask them to finish cooking it? It's also not very nice to rate a small local business one star when you didn't even go there to support them or purchase anything. I think it was good customer service for them to go ahead and grind someone elses beans. They were considerate enough to make sure you got it how you wanted it. There are many different at home coffee makers and a barista shouldn't be expected to know every one.

I have been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the coffee and the atmosphere. The impression I got is that each and every employee I met there is skilled and well informed, and cares about my experience. And the coffee is good--not over roasted corporate, but flavorful and distinctive.

I stopped in here to get some beans because my usual place, Carollo's, was closed on a Monday.

I asked the woman behind the counter to grind my beans for a Bialetti pot. She'd never heard of one, so I said it was for stove-top espresso.

"So you want it ground coarse." I explained that I needed it ground fine, for espresso.

She goes over to grind the beans and starts in with, "Do you have a grinder at home?"

I said I didn't. Why would I be asking her to grind them for me if I did?

"If I grind them fine they'll lose their freshness."

I said I know. Most people are aware of this concept.

This person, a barista, has never heard of a Bialetti Pot, and thinks you want a coarse gind for espresso, yet she's giving me lip about not grinding my own beans?

We all have to make choices about the things in life we obsess over, and how far we will take our obsession. Sure, I could roast my own beans, grind them just prior to use, and spend hours practing pulling perfect shots.

But frankly, in the morning I just want my coffee. I opt for convenience. I shouldn't have to justify this to a barista who hasn't heard of basic coffee equipment and grind choices.

Thumbs down to City Market Coffeehouse. Rude, ignorant service (the worst combination). Try Broadway Cafe instead.

P.S. I didn't tip her. HA!!

I love stopping in this coffee shop for a cuppa! Super friendly and accomodating. The only negative is that there are sometimes people smoking inside the shop, so if you're sensitive to that, beware.
