This place is AMAZING! It's not what you expect out of a museum at all. The roof top is mouth dropping because of the school bus that hangs off the edge of the building so you are able to go all the way to the front of the bus and sit in the driver's seat and look out at St. Louis.

And the slides...the slides...too many to count and too many to try to conquer if you are not wearing appropriate foot wear.

That place makes every adult feel like they are a kid again because you climb through sky high works of art that you can't imagine to think of where they will take you.

The City Museum is absolutely incredible; I have travelled all over the U.S. and enjoyed many museums but I have to say this one is my favorite. From the amazing art which doubles as climbing, crawling, sliding, peering.....to the aquarium and the shoelace factory, the City Museum is truly individual.

Exhibits range from old St Louis architectural details to a room where the children build towers from old plastic jugs and then crash into them with abandon. (They all LOVE this very low tech room.) There are tunnels overhead, caves to crawl in and through, 2 slides--a 5 story one and a 10 story one (I'll do the 10 story next time; the 5 story one was lots of fun). The shoelace factory gives an inexpensive souvenier to take home in colors of your choice--I'm sporting purple/yellow ones on my walking shoes. I loved the poster art. Food choices are limited and expensive but the HUGE local handpacked ice cream cone was worth the price.

I am 63 and enjoyed every minute here, although I found I was exhausted after 5 hours. Everyone should try this museum at least once but do be prepared to walk a LOT, and expect a sensory overload. I'll be back next month to experience the Rooftop as well.

Cons: noisy, requires an able body to navigate

this place is one of a kind. it is an art gallery that you are encouraged to climb on. the cost may be high for food and admission, but how would you survive if it were you running the place? bring a cooler and tailgate... you can re-enter with your wrist band. The many tunnels (NOT TUNNEL TOWN) are a blast to explore. Oh did anyone mention the SEVEN STORY SPIRAL SLIDE? awsome!!! If you have an open mind you will come back to this treasure a few times and recommend it often. You can read the posts of previous reviewers on this site, but, don't believe a complaining word from a negative thoughtmaker. Great spot for blind/first date. Bring your kids ages 3 thru retirement home and see their face light up! If you are lucky you will meet the ambassador. His name is Charlie. He is a true gem of a human being.

Like a grown up "Discovery Zone" (on acid). It's M.C. Escher meets Salvador Dali...Great for kids, but a really fun place to take a date who's up for something unusual. Downtown near plenty of restaurants and clubs.
It's where a big kid can be a kid...Makes you want to crawl, climb, play and discover....Bob Cassily rocks!
Can't wait to go see the Giant Pencil. Sure "museum" is a misnomer, but exactly what word would you use to describe a mult-story fun house that makes you say "wow" at every turn. Check out the glass blowing demo if you get a chance. Great fun!

My daughter loves this outing b/c there are so many things to see and lots of physical activities on the outdoor play area and the indoor slides. I think this a good activity for 4 & up but would not feel comfortable letting my younger child loose in the City Museum.

This is like a imaginary place - you almost can't believe it is real while you are there because it is so wacky! It is really a playground for all ages - but I am 32 and just love it. They also have a wide vaiety of places to just sit back and enjoy company and a drink. They have exhibits that run from time to time that are also worth seeing! Love it!

This is a AWESOME museum, fun for the entire family. My family just recently visited here and we can't wait to go back (I have young children and a teenager). The admission price ($12 adults $8 children) is well worth the money. The building is decorated with all recycled materials. Parking is your typical downtown parking, the museum is located downtown and easy to find.

The City Museum is like an amusement park in the middle of downtown St. Louis.Great music venues through out and lots of fun. I couldn't help myself from taking a ride on several of the slides and I climbed all over the place in the outside maze. You can get sometyhing to eat and just have a great family day out.The outside of the museum is a giant play structure complete with airplane shells and walkways for climbing and walking all around in every direction.the random and unexpected entertainment gems of St. Louis.
Many attractions, like the multi-story slides (which visitors use as downward escalators), awe-inspiring underground cave system, and the interactive sculpture called MonstroCity (above), take advantage of the building's unique spaces and industrial character. The museum invites its visitors to create and interact with exhibits.

This is a really fun place for both adults and kids. The really big draw for my grandkids is the slide. They also like to do the crafts and just explore. The price is a little high if there are several of you, $12 a person, but worth it.

City Museum entrances you from the moment you enter and see the giant slide shaped like animals. There are exhibits that the kids can use to learn and have fun at the same time. We made pottery items and the children learned how the clay was made and then when we were finished with that, we ventured over to the Aquarium section to view the Stingrays.

It's a fun and adventurous place that you can spend an entire day in.

This unique museum has an actual suspended plane that kids can go in and on. It has rooms and rooms of things to explore and educate. It also has a small circus that performs on the upper floor for an additional fee. This really holds the kids interest for a while and is a good distraction on a rainy or cold day.

PROS: downtown, fun and educational
CONS: costly for a large family, circus is extra cost

For almost a hundred dollars my family went through the City Museum. Several of the tanks were empty, the slide was dangerous (one got hurt) and the big sliding ramps upstairs caused many injuries while we were there. Skip this one.

City museum is in fact not a museum. It is merely a large playground with few exhibits or attractions. It consists almost entirely of endless tunnels, slides and playground equipment. The World Aquarium exhibit is on par with a dishevelled discount pet shop. If you are seeking an indoor playground for 5 year olds you may be mildy, albeit it transiently, amused by this attraction. Don't waste your money ... St. Louis has many world class free museums!

My kids love visiting the City Museum they have so much for them to do and see. One of the favorites is the slides. They have tons of them and don't think that the little ones are the only ones who like them you are bound to see a lot of the grown ups playing too.I did feel like it was a little pricey at $12.00 a person, but definitely well worth it.

This is a cool place to go with the kids. They have a variety of exhibits, plus a new "world aquarium" that houses multiple sea creatures.

The exhibits are very different than your typical museums that you might visit. I guarantee you'll learn at least five new things when you visit here, if not more!

It's fairly cheap too--only $12 for an admission ticket. If you want to visit the aquarium though, you have to fork over another $6, so that makes it a bit more pricey.

It's in a not so great part of the city, but that's the only negative and if you visit during the day you should be fine.

City Museum attracts a lot of attention-and it should! It's so interesting and amusing! This crazy, fun filled building is packed with things to do on a friday night. The mazes are fun and the art is incredible. The airplanes are a bit scary, but the slides and firetruck make me happy. Definitely recommend for a nice date!

The City Museum has many different exhibits to see and all kinds of hands on exhibits for kids. Adults can come and act like a kid late at night. They keep the museum open later on the weekends for adults and older children to go without so many smaller children. This is an amazing site to see. I have seen just as many adults as kids have a wonderful time in this museum. It is full of caves, tunnels, and other items to crawl in or on or through.

Truly, you can't describe this place. And if it could be described in a way that you would understand, you wouldn't believe me. The best children museum I have ever been too, and that is saying a lot. But I do it a disservice by calling it a children museum. If this place does not bring out the inner child in you, well then that child is dead.

Imaging a HUGE hand made art jungle gym with elaborate designs, and colors, and slides, and secret places...

Now whatever you have in your mind, multiply by at least 20 and you come close to a small corner of the City Museum.

Open late on the weekends if you want to go with out so many kids.

On friday and saturday nights, the City Museum is open until 1am. All the tiny kiddies have gone to bed, so older kids and grown-ups can go and enjoy the museum. Another perk is that the admission is discounted after 5pm. It used to be $5 after 5, but I see now that it's is $8. Still cheaper than regular admission.

The city museum is a great place to go and just have fun and relax. It truly is a giant playground. Some friends and I went there one night and we all had a blast. The city museum has an interesting array of architectural paraphernalia from abandoned or demolished buildings from the city. The outdoor sculpture park consists of a hodge-podge of industrial equipment arranged in a sort of deck or patio. Indoors you will find everything from facades to a bank vault and a fish tank made from storefront glass. A must see.
