Winstead's has been a Kansas City staple for years. I highly suggest a double with everything, a 50/50 (onion rings and fries) and a chocolate shake. If you're feeling feisty or have a few friends along then go for the skyscraper shake, you won't be sorry!

LOVE the butterscotch milkshake. Big fan of the breakfast sandwich, too. So affordable, waitresses that have been there much of their career, and lots of history at this location. A bit greasy, but it is a diner, what else would you expect? Fun for families and groups of high school and college students.

The Winsteads near The Plaza is the most famous one of it's kind in Kansas City. The atmosphere throws you back into the 50's, and so does the food. Its a great place for kids to come and chill, or to have a skyscraper-race. Bring your girl here, bring your out-of-town guests here, bring ANYBODY here. As long as they still have a pulse when they walk through the front doors, they'll enjoy their time spent at this awesome restaurant. My only complaint is that the food may be priced a little too high, but it all comes to balance when you take into consideration the atmosphere.

It's sad to see this local chain go down hill as fast as it did, I remember going to Winsteads being an acutal treat, the burgers were thin with crispy edges, the steak fries hot and not greasy, and the shakes...OMG the shakes.

Anyway last year when I moved back to KC and took my kids there the place had totally changed, while the burgers were almost as good as I remember them, the rest of the food left me wanting for the Winsteads of my childhood. The fries were greasy, the shake was not as good as I remember, and the service was insanely bad. This place has been a local favorite for years, but now it's just filled with tourists and people here on business all the locals have started going to Bob's Big Boy instead.

What used to be my favorite Friday night treat has turned into some very average version of my favorite burger.

Pros: Burgers are still crispy and melty

Cons: Service (non existent), horrible fries

My family and I have decided to visit every Winsteads in a 12 mile radius of where we live. We never tire of the warmth, inviting, and friendly environment we enjoy. This visit was not a disappointment at all. We recommend that you give it a try to see what you think.
