I have never taken time out of my day to complain publicly about a business, but this place got me so fired up, I decided it was time to start. I am not speaking of all Plato's Closet locations in this review, just the one in Lee's Summit. I've had great experiences at all of the other ones. I have been buying and selling at Plato's for years and every single time I have ever gone to this location (probably 15 times) I have walked out wishing I had never walked in. The staff is full of unprofessional, snobby 16 year old girls that clearly don't know how to interact with people. They don't even greet you when you walk in the door. I would have no idea what to do if it was my first time selling, considering that the girls in the booty shorts behind the counter certainly aren't any help. They advertise that they want "designer" clothing, yet they reject hundreds of dollars worth of "designer" items. If you take one look around the store, it's obvious that they are really looking for cheap crap just to fill the store up. If you search really hard, you can actually find a couple nice things, but I wouldn't buy any of it because I refuse to give my money to a business that is run so terribly. I am finally fed up with this store and they will never get another penny out of me. Also, they don't plan to buy any nice clothing, but they'll still waste 2 hours of your day looking through your stuff. Don't waste the time, money, or effort going here. VISIT ANOTHER LOCATION!

Simply put, not the best.

I agree with the others that the staff is comprised of snotty teenagers that look down the noses at everyone shopping there. They even find it difficult to come down off their high horse long enough to open a dressing room for you.

I've found little there that I've been impressed with. The large bulk of the clothing is worn out (even if it does have a desirable label). The shoes are, I agree, nasty.

My daughter found a skirt she liked at $10. It had threading that was coming loose at the elastic waist. I asked the manager (as noted by another's post-she was the one that poured herself into clothing fit for a 13 yr old) if they would take less and she got really huffy and told me they don't normally do that. Really? On cheap used clothing that's falling apart? But reluctantly, she took it down to $5 and said it will HAVE to be final sale. Gee thanks, it was probably worth $2 but, whatever.

We left with the skirt and a few other items that were "ok", but not in great shape. They will probably on be good enough to be worn a couple times and donated, most likely. But overall, I didn't spend much. So you get what you pay for.

I visited Platos Closet recently to sell some clothes and left disgusted. Firstly, the girl deeming whether or not my clothes were worthy of being purchased appeared to be about 17 and was wearing Ugg boots (went out of style about 5 years ago) with Wal-Mart sweatpants tucked into them. Nevermind that it was over 60 degrees outside. She immediately berated me for bringing my clothes in in trashbags. Normally I wouldn't have done this but it was pouring down rain outside! I highly doubt Ms.Thang would have been delighted to sift through a stack of soaking wet, dripping clothes. Whatever.

I watched as she looked disdainfully at stacks of DESIGNER clothing (purchased from Macy's Juniors section within the last 6 months) and stuffed them back into my trash bags. She stuffed a $150 pair of designer jeans into the trashbag as she put a pair of $25 Mudd jean shorts from Target onto the "buy" pile. I really think it's false advertising for Plato's Closet to say that they want to purchase designer, nice quality clothing for young people, because my clothes met all of those criteria. The only reason I was even getting rid of them was because I've lost too much weight to fit into them anymore. An almost $200 Heatherette hoodie got stuffed into the trashbag while Ms.Thang made a "Oooh CUTE!" face at a shirt my grandma bought me for $5 on clearance at JC Penney.

Long story short I walked out with the same 2 bags of trendy, in fashion, designer clothing that I walked in with and a few bucks from the crappier items that they DID buy. Obviously Plato's Closet and its staff wouldn't know "designer" if it jumped up and bit them on their Walmart sweatpant clad butts. Target is not designer folks!

I must mention in closing that I browsed around a bit while I was waiting and realized things would go badly for me as soon as I saw that on the "for sale" racks were several pairs of flip flops that looked like they had been infected by a previous owner's foot fungus. Great way to pick quality items!

Don't waste the time or your gas money to go to this joke of an establishment. Unless you want to laugh at the 45 year old manager who has stuffed herself into clothes appropriate for a 13 year old.

I was impressed by the name brands this vintage store had to offer. The clothes were gently used and very affordably priced. I found Gap, Tommy, Abercrombie - all great brands I cant really afford to go and buy at retail prices. I have been here several times and I have always left buying something.

I was very surprised at how cute all of the clothes were. The number one reason why I will never return is mainly because of the staff. They are some of the most unfriendly girls I have ever encountered in a retail environment. I had taken some of my best clothes there to consign. I was told by one of the High-school workers that my clothes were a "Little bit mature" for what they were looking for even though I had one of the same shirts that I found on their shelf!!

PROS:
CONS: Snootty little High-school workers

This is a good place to shop for gently used name brand clothes. You can find all different brand at the fraction of the price. They also buy your used clothes and pay pretty good for them. It's kind of hard to find, but well worth it to find name brand clothes at reasonable prices.

I love this place. The one in Mission, Kansas offers a little bit better items, but still they give you great money for your clothing. A little hard to find if you don't know where you are going, but it is worth the trip for brand name items that are cheap!
