St. Canara is a small, but vibrant parish in Neosho, Missouri. We have one priest who covers two parishes. He is available most of the time by calling the parish (417-451-3411) or sending an email (stcanera@sbcglobal.net). We have a website, http://home.catholicweb.com/stcanera for more information. We no longer have a pastoral associate and I would say that we are friendly, but we do not "bombard" strangers with questions and we are pretty much the same as any other small Catholic church I have attended..

St. Canera's is the only Catholic Church in Neosho and it's a small parish. The two priests here serve two additional parishes in Southwest Missouri and are often absent from the local church. They are assisted by a pastoral associate, a woman who is an employee, not a nun. A Sister has also just come to the parish to assist with day to day operations as well as to help with a growing Hispanic population.

The church building is small and attractive. Grounds are well-kept with many flowers and plants. A bell tower beside the church was erected in memory of a favorite pastor, Father Roger Leveilee who passed away a few years ago while serving at St. Canera.

If you're Catholic from another area of the country (even the state), you may find that parishioners here are different. Although the Mass is the same basic service anywhere, it's said here without as much pomp and ceremony as some Catholics may be accustomed to during worship.

If you're new, prepare to be bombarded with questions about yourself and family. The pleasant anonymity often found in other parishes where you can attend church without being asked who you are or why you're at the parish isn't found at St. Canera.

PROS: Church and grounds are very attractive
CONS: Parishioners are too often referred to the "pastoral associate"
