My family absolutely loves Blue Koi. If you are looking for true Asian cuisine, you have found the place. They have a variety of dishes, ranging from dumplings to noodles. The Chinese Pot Roast is to die for, and the traditional Ants on a Tree will make you come back for more.

I know that most people don't go to an Asian restaurant and order the pot roast, it's generally not even on the menu, but trust me when I say you must order it here.

Blu Koi serves a diverse selection of Pan-Asian cuisine that will excite your taste buds. From Crispy Tofu with Spicy Awesome Sauce to Braised Pork to Vegetarian Wontons, and much more.

The whole family will be satisfied with the selections. They are so good we had them cater our wedding reception. Even the people who had never had tofu loved the Crispy Tofu with Spicy Awesome Sauce!

Blu Koi dishes are reasonably priced, and large enough for two to share most main dishes. You will always receive excellent service in addition to the amazing food creations.

The Taiwanese inspired dishes are magnificent and left my taste buds wanting more! Me and my date had trouble deciding what to get, so we ordered several starters, the sake sampler and sesame balls served with a sweetened plum sauce for dessert. We finished off this wonderful and tasty meal with some hot tea. My favorite starter was the fried tofu with awesome sauce. Incredible!

I would order all of the same dishes again, but I really can't wait to try other items off the menu.

The ambiance is very cozy and romantic and the service was friendly without being overly intrusive.

The restaurant is located in a very eclectic and fun neighborhood in KC. What a treasure!

This is "our place" for me and my wife. As the proposal took place here, so does every anniversary, most birthdays and special occasions, and just nights when we want to FEEL special.

The pot-roast on noodles is my favorite meal in the Kansas City area. However, nearly every entree is great. I personally recommend always getting the entree "on noodles." The dumplings are fantastic either pan fried or traditional.

Important - Every meal MUST begin with a scallion biscuit. These crunchy/chewy morsels dipped lightly in the accompanying dumpling sauce, are TO DIE FOR!!! Don't share, get one for each of you!

In nearly six years, we have never once had less than stellar service at the Blue Koi. Quick drink refills, good wine pairing advice, lots of smiles, we even had our waiter buy us dessert the night I proposed!

Pros - This place has really good dumplings. You can really get the fresh taste of the ingredients inside the dumplings if you order them boiled and just dip in a little siracha chili mixed with soy sauce. I ordered a seafood noodle soup with bean thread noodles instead of rice noodles. The broth was very delicious and not too oily. There was also a lot of spinach, which I love.
Cons - The bubble teas are not really good though. The tapioca balls were kinda hard inside, and most of the flavors on the menu are made of powder mixes instead of fresh ingredients. For example, I ordered a red bean green tea slush, and I could not taste the red bean flavor. It was a little odd tasting.

The dumplings are great (pan-seared, of course). In fact, I usually get two servings of dumplings rather than an entree. A very original and intriguing Asian cuisine menu, but if you're expecting American-style Chinese you'll be disappointed.

Must try the dumplings. If you really like dumplings, the dumpling noodle soup is a great deal. The pot roast is to die for. Where else can you go where the owner knows everyone's name? It's often a wait on Fri/Sat. peak times.
