Reviews for Jay International Food Co

Ratings_icons loveyou

Ani R.

I had lived in St. Louis pretty much all of my life, so when I had the opportunity to shop at Jay's International, I really enjoyed the various products that are not available in the local grocers. I would love the opportunity to shop there even though I currently live in Colorado. I really miss shopping there. And when it comes to different personalities ie. cashiers, they are human and often have stress beyond what customers are aware of and can affect the way people are treated.

Ratings_icons there are better international stores in saint louis with better products

Chaz M.

As Others HAVE MENTIONED, MOST OF THE WORKERS AT JAY'S INTERNATIONAL ARE RUDE AND JUST PLAIN IGNORANT. I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS RACISM BECAUSE I HAVE GONE BEFORE AND HAD A DECENT EXPERIENCE. THE LAST STRAW FOR ME WAS WHEN TODAY, JANUARY 26, 2010, I ASK FOR ASSISTANCE FROM THE OLD ASIAN CASHIER WITH PIGTAILS, THAT LOOKED LIKE A RETIRED STREET WALKER. SHE COMPLETELY IGNORED ME AND LATER TOLD ME THAT SHE WAS BUSY DOING SOMETHING ASK SOMEONE ELSE. THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE AROUND..THAT'S WHY I ASKED HER. I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ANYONE WITH A BRAIN WOULD KNOW YOU DO NOT TREAT PEOPLE IN SUCH A DISRESPECTFUL MANNER. I WILL NOT RETURN TO JAY'S INTERNATIONAL, THEIR STORE SMELLED HORRIBLY OF SPOILED MEAT ANYHOW AND THE ONLY THINGS THAT INTERESTED ME WHERE THE EXOTIC JUICES, OILS AND POCKY. YES POCKY, WHICH I WILL STOP EATING BECAUSE I BELIEVE THEY ARE TAINTED WITH MELAMINE AND I WANT TO KEEP MY LIVER THANK YOU VERY MUCH. MY NEXT STEP HOWEVER, IS TO REPORT THEM TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENTS FOR UNSANITARY CONDITIONS AND MELAMINE LACED FOODS.
I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS EVER AGAIN.

Ratings_icons Jay International Food Co is alright

Jay International is alright. The Asian workers can be abrupt with you at times. I like having access to the variety of foods at Jays. Good prices!

Ratings_icons Jay International Food Co is filled with racist bastards

Sekert B.

A great deal of black immigrants and black Americans in St. Louis frequent this market; yet, the Asian workers (particularly those on register) are so disrespectful. I am inclined to believe that Jay's does not like black people. They are some racist bastards. I refuse to shop there and willingly spend more money at other markets.

Ratings_icons Jay is my Fay-vorite!

Jaime Y. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 959

This is a great store for all sorts of vegetables, food stuffs, and ingredients that you just can't get at Schnucks. The produce is at least as good as at the bigger stores, and is usually cheaper. among other things they have great dried figs and hummus mix. Parking is limited. Overall, it's one of my most favorite local grocery stores in St Louis and I am always trying to get the uninitiated to stop in and try something differnt for a change.

Ratings_icons fun grocery shopping

Dawn P. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,433

As a whole foods cook, international cooking is definately part of my reperatiore. At Jay's you can find unique items for cheap: organic soba noodles, several kinds of yerba mate, tahini, and asian cooking sauces to your heart's content. A great supplementary grocery for city dwellers.

Ratings_icons Foreign grocer with HUGE selection!

Christopher M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,990

Jay International is the sister company of Global Market in Kirkwood- both specialize in providing a variety of fresh foreign and import products from countries around the world. Jay and Global both have a huge clientel of St Louis immigrants who love to see rare items from home on store shelves. You will feel welcome at Jays at their convenient Grand location, right across the street from great restaurants and shops. Go to Jay and try something new, prices are great!
