I just received my Feather Lite endurance saddle. It is the most comfortable saddle I have ever sat in. We tried it on three horses with different conformations and it fit like a glove, molding to each horse's back. The craftsmanship is superb and the design of the saddle is an intelligent solution for fitting the ever changing conformation of one horse or fitting multiple horses.
Mr. R.L. Watson has eliminated bulk under the leg, which gives a very close contact feeling. The seat is padded for comfort and is deep enough that you feel like you are sitting in a pocket. The gullet width allows for great air flow, accompanied by flexible panels that allow the horse's shoulders to move freely going forward or laterally.
This saddle is an intelligent choice for someone who has concerns about the comfort of their horse as well as their own comfort.
Mr. R.L. Watson has eliminated the pressure points to the horse where the panels attach to the tree. He has solved the problem of many Flex Panel saddles of feeling like you are sitting so far above your horse that you have lost close contact or panels that don't really flex.
I researched saddles for four years and feel like the research paid off. Mr. R.L. Watson builds saddles for folks competing in 100 mile races, as well as those of us who want ultimate comfort for our horse and ourselves out on the trail. Now I understand why someone would chose to ride in a R.L. Watson saddle over other saddles, Flex Panel or otherwise. My saddle only weighs 16 lbs., but it has generously sized panels under the tree for excellent weight distribution across the horse's back. The twist is narrow enough that I do not feel like I am sitting on a barrel. The seat is incredibly comfortable.
This saddle is the product of a forward thinking saddle maker who has the vision and years of experience to create a real answer to saddle fit problems and the need for rider comfort.
You have to be patient while your saddle is being made. Mr. R.L. Watson makes his saddles by hand, one at a time. His trees are made "in house", to his specifications. Very few saddle makers still make their own trees.
My wait time was 90 days and it was worth the wait. I intend to keep this saddle forever.

Richard Watson makes a very nice Flex Panel Saddle. You have numerous options to create the most comfortable saddle you and your horse will ever ride in. The panels flex with the horses movement and will fit a large majority of horses. Wait time though is a bit long 4-6 months. Saddle quality is top notch and there is no break-in time either. Saddle design is very easy on the back and the knees too when riding for several hours.
