Dr. Britt has been a blessing to our german sheperds. She was the one who was able to diagnose Scout as have EPI, and provide a treatment approach to manage it consistently. The hours that you provide has given us the opportunity to avoid missing work, while still seeing that our pets get excellent healthcare.

Outstanding Vet Hospital

by Stan S. | insider Insider | Rank: 25,711

My wife and I started bringing our gang of dogs here 4 years ago because of their vaccine prices. When our Rusty dog got sick we had him in the hospital with them for 4 days. Unlike other hospitals in the area they have someone there with the pets 24 hours a day - they are not left alone for hours at a time at night. This gave us a lot of peace of mind. We knew that Rusty was getting the best care possible. He pulled through and is doing very well now. We recommend this hospital to everyone we know that has pets. You simply can't go wrong with Webster Groves Animal Hospital! From their prices to the hours to the quality!!

Mixed review for Webster Groves Animal Hospital.

by D T.

Mixed Bag: With the departure of Doctor Domer, we are definitely reconsidering patronizing this facility. We love the convenience and the extended hours, but some of the staff are rude, the vets are consistently late for our SCHEDULED appointments by an hour or more! We arrived early and still wait. Putting someone in a room with a sick dog and making them wait for over an hour, is not good service and is not acceptable. Often, promised call backs are not received in anything approaching a timely manner. We often give them a few more hours just in case they're really busy, yet we still don't receive a call back. We end up making multiple calls to get any response. They need to staff more vets, especially on Sundays. We don't mind spending money on our beloved Puggle and we love the convenience and proximity of the facility, but their poor service, poor communications and occasional rudeness, are becoming too much.

Thank you webster groves animal hospital

by Jackie P.

I brought my 8 year old cat in for vaccinations and they talked me into doing bloodwork even though my charlie seemed perfectly healthy. I reluctantly agreed. Am I sure glad they did! My charlie has a problem with his kidneys that we have now started treating with daily fluids and special food. We just took him back for a recheck and wanted to thank the staff for being so kind to us. I am so sorry my husband was less thank kind to you (I am sure now you know who this is) he disagreed with my decision to do bloodwork and took it out on all of you. After he learned of the results he couldn't quit apologizing to me and I wanted to extend the apology to you as I know he is to embarassed. Thank you so much for the great care - our old vet said it was a waste of money to run bloodwork on a cat unless "it" was sick. We will now switch all of our pets to you!

WGAH is uncaring, and understaffed

by Cheryl Z.

WGAH does not provide top notch care as they claim. I took my dog in, paid an emergency fee, and waited THREE hours before they even took an x-ray. My dog was throwing up, in severe pain, and had golf ball-sized lumps in her belly. A hernia had ruptured and she had strangulated bowels. She was not given any pain medicine to make her comfortable while waiting those 3 hours either. Strangulated bowels are supposed to require IMMEDIATE surgery, and she waited until the next day before having surgery. She was dying in my arms, and no one even cared enough to come in before 3 hours even though I regularly checked with the front desk. So to those of you saying that the severe cases get treated first, that is not true. My dog was dying and was not taken care of. She was in ICU for 5 days after and I have never taken her there since, or any of my dogs. On top of all this, the front desk staff are the rudest people ever, and apparently don't consider their animals their babies or they would try having some sympathy for their clients whose animals are their kids. Only one doctor (Britt) ever made any attempt to be nice and understand my feelings towards my baby that was dying.

Disorganized

by Jessica S.

The person at the front desk didn't know the prices of the items in the retail area and didn't know the difference between a spay and neuter. They almost gave my dog two heart worm tests because of a lack of communication between the vet and the tech who first performed the test. The price is relatively reasonable compared to other vets further west into the county, but I would switch vets if I could find a good one.

Good for emergencies, but...

by Ele S.

We took our cat to WGAH when we needed a vet quickly and found that ours had retired. We feel that the care we got from both doctors (the one at the first appointment and a different doctor at the follow-up) was adequate, but not necessarily exceptional. After our cat was diagnosed with renal disease, the doctors explained that injecting fluids subcutaneously was the equivalent of dialysis for cats. We were sold a bag of fluids and shown how to administer them at home. At no time did either doctor tell us they could give the cat more fluids, much faster, and much more capably to stabilize his health. This treatment option was only offered by a different animal hospital that we took our cat to for a second opinion. The administration of their price structure was also frustrating. After the first vet told us the price for blood lab work and we authorized it, we were charged more when we were ready to pay. Also, according to their price structure, a follow-up appointment is supposed to cost less than the first appointment. The second vet was well aware that the visit was a direct follow-up to discuss the results of the blood work from the first time and to get the training and supplies for the subcutaneous fluids, yet he tried to charge us for a first visit. Only after continued insistence did the payment clerk consult with him and refund the difference to us. We will keep WGAH in mind if we are in desperate need of vet care after business hours, but we have found a different, much more caring vet at less cost for both our ailing cat and our other three "furballs."

Dr. Bedows SAVED Joey's life!

by Mary W.

When I got Joey on April 5th, 2008 from a rescue he was underweight and had severe diarrhea. After a few times at WGAH, I finally got scheduled with Dr. Bedows who hospitalized Joey on April 16th and did further testing. Joey was diagnosed on April 17th (after Dr. Bedows doing much researching) with Histiocytic Ulcerative Colitis (found in young Boxers), Joey has gained 12 lbs and is living like a pup should! THANK YOU DR. BEDOWS FOR THE LOVE OF MY LIFE :-) Mary

Dr. Weltig is the best!

by Anonymous

We took our lizards to see Dr. Weltig and both he and his assistant helped us so much! I haven't met a vet that knows as much as him! And the assistant handled our lizards with the ease of a pro! They spent a lot of time talking to us to get an idea of our set up at home. They suggested a few changes in their environment and the doctor suggested that I run tests on my lizard that my old vet never suggested. We couldn't be happier! For top quality reptile care, you gotta see Dr. Weltig!

by Sarah J.

OPEN ON THE 4TH OF JULY!! Thanks guys, you were a life saver! I don't know what my family would have done without you. Today our beloved pug Otis puked all over the kitchen. Our vet was closed and we went to Webster groves animal hospital. They saw us without an appointment and gave Otis some medicine and he is so much better now! We will switch all our four legged babies over to you. You won our trust!

Loving Care and Thoughtful

by Susan H.

I have taken my pets to WGAH for nearly 20 years. When my dog was hospitalized there I knew it was the right place - as I turned the corner I found one of the techs on the floor by his cage, gently petting him and kissing his nose, just like I would do! He was always clean and his cage was immaculate. They were so supportive when he finally had to be put down (old age and disease). When my elderly cat had to be put to sleep, the doctor was so kind with me and even sent a donation to the APA in her memory (I got her through the APA). And today they were most helpful and kind and funny with the injured stray cat I brought in. None of us are perfect and we need to remember that. I hate long waits but sometimes it happens - emergencies, etc. The care is top notch with lots of extras. Prices are competitive - and sometimes a real good deal.

Love this vet

by Lucy E.

We started taking our little LuLu to Webster Groves Animal Hospital 13 years ago. At that time she was a little puppy. They have seen her through her old age and we are so grateful for all the care you have given her! We will never forget that late night a few years ago when we had to rush her in for an emergency - you guys were there and helped her pull through! Now our family has grown to include two new kittens. They sure keep LuLu busy! We will bring our two new additions in to see you soon - we can't wait for them to meet their vet!

The best vet I have ever been to - 5 years running!!

by Larry G. | insider Insider | Rank: 28,583

My family and I started taking our puppy to Webster Groves Animal Hospital a few years ago based on numerous recommendations from family and friends. We have had nothing but a pleasant experience there!!

To my family they offered a much better option than the emergency clinic in St. Louis. We had to take our cat in there 5 years ago and it was a horrible experience! Not only did our cat die but the bill was outrageous and the staff very uncaring. Not so at Webster Groves Animal Hospital! Their pries are very fair and the staff has always taken such good care of our babies!

They have vaccination packages that we get every year - a basic one for our young Sparky dog and one that includes bloodwok for our older Sady dog. The vet always does a good exam and lets us know if there is anything wrong that we were unaware of. The vet also answers all of our questions (which we write out ahead of time so this can last awhile).

Keep up the good work - my family always recommends you!!

Busy, Great Vets, STOP COMPLAINING!

by Kimberly L.

For the complaints... If you had to wait a long time 1. Either someone was LATE to their appointment or YOU were late. If your appointment is for "Check Ears" and you have to wait a small amount of time, then most likely the appointment before yours was much more serious (i.e heart murmur, broken leg etc). WGAH is a very busy practice but they try their hardest to treat every client and patient fair. If you were rude or unable to NOT cause a scene, then it's your fault. The Vets do not change regularly. They are the same vets, but with the hours they work, some hours DO change. If you want the same vet, then ASK. Most of the time the Vets have the same hours each week or every other week. Stop whining if you don;t get waited on hand & foot. A bleeding & hurt animal is first in line over your "Check Ears". If you make an appointment TRY to tell the person WHAT EXACTLY YOU ARE COMING IN FOR, so that they may make the time allotted for the appointment. If you only say "Check Ears" they will post a like a 20 min appointment, if you come in for a check ears appointment & you decide to find all these little bumps and "check this, and this". Then you are very wrong in your actions and are causing problems for the other people who have appointments after you. YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH AN APPOINTMENT!

I am tired of hearing people COMPLAIN about WGAH. They are a 5 star facility and yes everyone makes a mistake every once in a while; sometimes things are overlooked... but that can happen everywhere!! Stop taking it out on those who you went to for help!!!

I will ALWAYS go back to WGAH as I have had maybe 1 or 2 longer waits...but WHO doesnt understand BUSY practices. I thought nothing was wrong with my cat Tomasina, but after having a Dr. look at her, he thought bloodwork would be a better look at things. Come to find out, her kidneys were failing. There wasnt much to do by then but the Dr.s took great care of her for her last few months. If you dont get routine check ups on your animals or keep them vaccinated, and something happens to your pet when you finally come in...that is NEGLECT on YOUR part.

Great Animal Hospital!! My family recommends it!

by Patty C.

We have used Webster Groves Animal Hospital for the last 3 years. The staff has always been busy but friendly. We always see the same doctor, but that is because we ask for him.
Last year our cat was hospitalized for 5 days. He was taken care of like king! Every day when we would visit the techs all knew our boy cat and would offer us words of comfort. He fully recovered and is doing great!
I have compared their prices on shots and they are very reasonable. I won't go anywhere else and recommend them to all my friends.

TO ALL YOU COMPLAINERS!

by Anonymous

Ok, This is to correct a few things all of these reviews are saying! First of all, WGAH is NOT, I repeat NOT an emergency clinic. They offer this as a service. The doctors have to see their normal appointment and work in the emergencies, (and by the way, saying you dogs ears ache is NOT an emergency!). So don't complain if you wait and have no appointment, go to the Emergency Clinic next time! 2nd, WGAH does not do grooming, so the response previously is incorrect, they give your pet a bath to be nice after boarding if you request it. 3rd, IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE SAME DOCTOR EVERYTIME, JUST ASK FOR THEM! Don't crab because you see a different vet each time, you are perfectly capable of asking to see a certain vet, and just because you don't like that vet's hours, tough they can't work 24-7. This ia very nice animal hospital, yes the workers are overworked, and underpaid, and can get very crabby, they are all working there for 1 reason, THEY LOVE ANIMALS! All the people their truly care about your pets, otherwise they wouldn't be working for a hospital that is so busy/crazy all of the time! So stop complaining! O and last thing, don't complain about their prices, they are cheaper than anywhere around, and I'm sure when you go to your medical doctor you bills going to be ridiculous, and you are going to wait at least 10 minutes!

Not perfect, but pretty good

by Steve K.

We moved back to St Louis about 8 months ago. When we got here, we needed to board our cat for a couple weeks while we were in the hotel. She was treated quite well and we visited her almost every day. We never waited more than about 5 minutes and her little kitty condo was always clean.
We also have a 14-year old dog that we've brought in to see a vet. We've seen the same vet - Dr. Britt - every time. Of course, we've had to make sure to schedule our appointments to coincide with her schedule. She's been fantastic and thorough, and is genuinely concerned with her patients. I have yet to see a dirty exam room.
The waiting room can be a bit frantic and the voice mail system could be improved. But I've never been treated rudely over the phone or in person. I have to go in every month to pick up my dog's prescription and have waited at most 10 minutes before getting it. (I call in advance and deal with the voice mail.)
If you expect to waited on hand-and-foot with no waiting, this is not for you. Go to an animal hospital that's only open 9-5 M-F and has only one vet. But if you have a busy schedule like we do, this is a great place. The only people I've seen have problems in the waiting room though are the ones who cause it themselves.
Comments: If you are seeing different vets all the time, you have a responsibility to your pet. If your pet is dehydrated, it probably needs a fluid I.V. to rehydrate. Try and schedule the same vet, even if it means coming in when it's less convenient. And sometimes waiting can't be avoided. I've used five different AHs in my life. I've had to wait for over a half hour in an exam room with my pet at every one.

Awesome Animal Hospital

by Anonymous

I have owned several pets through the years and the only animal hospital I will every use is Webster Groves. I live in O'Fallon, MO, but I will never consider leaving a hopsital that has done so very much for me. I've have always been treated with respect and have never had any negative experiences. I am shocked to read some of your reviews. Dr. Wilson was arrested on personal charges. The hospital has nothing to do with her private life and have announced she was immediately placed on leave. There are probably no legal grounds yet to terminate her employment until the end of this horrible experince. The exotic rooms, with separate waiting area, is upstairs so there is never a reason exotics should mix with dogs and cats. If a receptionists throws medication, I should think someone would complain and the receptionist would be disciplined accordingly. The management of the hospital will never know what happens if no one shares the experience. And besides, why charge the entire hospital for the crime of only one person. If you want to see the same veterinarian, all you have to do is ask. Someone scheduling appointments will first try to please you by setting an appointment convenient to your personal schedule. If you have a personal preference for a specific veterinarian, how are they supposed to know that? Speak up. I have always felt I received proper education about my pet's healthcare, choices were presented along with costs and I have never felt pushed into anything. Money is important and if it is a concern for you, you need to be responsible and ask charges up front when making an appointment and even call other facilities to compare prices. As a pet owner, as a potential client and a responsible adult, take charge and ask for this information instead of sitting back and complaining about a situation you were in control of the whole time. These vets are great, the hospital is clean and the staff is caring.

Mediocre

by Krista H.

I don't like this vet. The exam rooms should be cleaner, and it would be nice to see the same doctor twice. I'll continue at this location until the vaccination package I (errantly) bought is complete. The late hours are convenient, but I think a veterinarian should provide first-class service, and Webster Groves Animal Hospital does not.

Great hours, Great prices, Caring

by Susan W.

My sister and I have always used this vet. We have always had good experiences, low prices with very friendly, knowledgeable vets. And they have someone on staff actually in the hospital watching the pets 24 hours a day. We won't trust our pets to anyone else!
They are always busy, but that is because the place is dynamite! I recommend this vet to everyone I know! Thank you for taking care of my Misty!!!

Great help on phone

by Sandi B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,050

Unlike many facilities, this animal hospital will actually help you over the phone. When we adopted our kitty, she had a bit of a health problem once we brought her home. The staff at Webster was very attentive on the phone and one of the veterinary assistants was able to help us right on the phone without having to bring her in, which is virtually unheard of in this day and age.

Busy Practice, Higher Prices for Care

by Debby J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 10,933

When we adopted a kitten from a local shelter, they gave us a list of clinics we could take her to for free spaying. We chose Webster Groves Animal Clinic because they had convenient hours and were easy to get an appointment to.

They were fine for the free services, but when the kitten got sick about a week after we got her, we took her back as they had her records.

We had a long (30 + minutes) wait after our scheduled appointment, they had no separate areas for dogs/cats/exotics to wait and they were very high priced for basic services as compared to other local vets.

If I had an emeregency, I wouldn't hesitate to take my pet there, the quality of care was excellent. The prices and wait for routine care and minor illnesses are something I'm not willing to patronize them for.

This is a top notch animal hospital, and always recommended by everyone that we talk to. Our Bichon nearly died when his blood sugar reached rock bottom levels. The second I got there he was taken in and cared for immediately. The staff knew what they were doing and had him healthy in no time. They didn't hesitate or make us wait at all. Great service. Thanks!

Big vets office with great emergency hours

by Jen K. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 559

This place is huge, with a lot of exam rooms and tons of vets that work here. They also cater to emergencies and after hours type problems, so if you need to get your animal in and your own vet isn't open or available, you should go here.

They are located in West County which is fairly convenient for the majority of St. Louis residents.

Prices are fairly standard for regular exams and then go up obviously for emergencies or after hours care.

I definitely think this should be your back-up vet for your pets.
