It's about time that Zelda's closed it's doors. For the two and half years that I worked there I witnessed nothing but complete apathy from the Board of Directors to the Executive Director, Sheryl Vickers. How did anyone think that someone so clueless was going to be able to contribute anything other than chaos to that place? I miss so many families and have had to keep my mouth shut for almost a year now but it's finally over and all I can say is that it's a damn shame so many wonderful teachers were treated like such trash. I hope they all find a better place where they're appreciated and rewarded for the hard work they do every day. After all, how hard is it to say, "thank you?"

Be careful what forums like this say. Usually only the most dissatisfied people post their thoughts so it is not a true representation of the operation. There is no way to really know the reason they are dissatisfied, which in many cases is their own doing and not the fault of the target of the post. In other words, many people who post tirades on these forums are irrational and just want to get back at someone for something they think wronged them. Because they have an Internet connection they think their opinion is valid. I hope their posts let them sleep better at night

To address the previous posts, I have a child there and have been very happy with the facility, the staff, the teachers, and the food. Yes, there is employee turnover but that is the case in every industry. It is hard to find qualified employees for any business, and I think Zelda has done a great job. ??Everyone? is not leaving and much of the time there is a waitlist to get into the younger rooms. From an unqualified perspective, I think that child retention has been very high from year to year, class to class. I think the stability is good and getting new kids into the classes or age levels is healthy as well.

I just wanted to post this in defense of some of the targets of previous ??reviews?. If you??re looking into daycare facilities, do your own homework and trust your own conclusions. Trust family, friends and people you know, not what people post on forums like this.

I have a long history with Zelda. I have seen the good and I have seen the downfall under the leadership of Sheryl Vickers. Most of the good teachers are gone and the ones that remain are frustrated and tired or they are there just to get a check. The current director is rude, abrupt, and very close-minded. The people in charge of the finances seem to care little about the appearance of the school and the playground. When I have walked into this place it is very cold feeling and the atmosphere is very void of loving, gentle, professional people. It would be a big mistake for someone who expects quality childcare, good healthy meals, a clean safe place, and professional teachers to bring their child here. I see what goes on and believe me, it is not good. I have even witnessed teachers being verbally and physically abusive towards children. Would yo want your child in a place like this?

last year they raised my tuition around 20% and this year 10% but did no needed improvements - teachers say they are paid poorly so who knows where the money goes? - director just says money is too tight when I suggest improvements which doesnt give me a warm feeling - am leaving in a couple of months after touring much nicer and bigger place for same cost

Our toddler has been at Zelda's since he was 3 months old and we are extremely happy with the care he receives. He looks forward to going to "school" every day and looking at the daily curriculum tells me why. His days are filled with learning in a fun environment with teachers who genuinely care. The director Sheryl arrived at a tumultuous time for the center and I think she's done a great job. To say she doesn't care is ridiculous. She has made changes - some that have been unpopular. But - change is often hard. Zelda's is a great place for children to learn, grow and develop. It's facilities may not be "state-of-the-art" like others - but it has a family atmosphere that has had great results for my family. I have recommended to friends and will continue to do so.

PROS: staff, curriculum, small size, location
CONS: facility, playground not the best; tuition high but comparable to others

I feel that the daycare has had a few problems, but is working very hard to get over it. But, as with most places, some people get mad and have to bad mouth a place. I feel that if people would get to know Ms. Sheryl and see that the children are top priority. She does care and I feel that she has been given a bad rap also. I do know for a fact that there are a lot of happy and satisfied parents and children. Zelda daycare is a great place for children and their families. The teachers do teach and they don't just babysit. Take a tour and see for yourself.

PROS: Location, learning, good communication

Unfortunately I spent over well over a year at this daycare. The poor teachers have to deal with a ratio of kids to teachers of 10-1 in my son's old room while at my new daycare the ratio is 6-1 which obviously leads to better individual attention. The facility was in disrepair with a continually leaky roof, unhealthy food program, and a dangerous asphalt playground. My son had water drip on his head from the roof and had an accident on the playground due its surface. I tried to have some conversations with the director but she said money was too tight and no improvements could be made. This was alarming since these were safety issues not just a whining parent. In over a year and a half I never had one single parent-teacher conference which seems wrong!! My teacher said that she had too pressure just watching the kids to implement any organized curriculum or plan. My new daycare is much a nicer facility with happier teachers which leads to calmer happier children (read my review of ChildGarden) I always wondered why my son was so hyper and agitated at Zelda and I now have to think the very large class size and overall atmosphere contributed. Some of the teachers are truly excellent but I know that some of then were looking for new jobs. Its such a hard thing to pick a daycare my advice is to look for smaller (calmer) classroom to allow your child to develop. After only four months at his new daycare my son has learned to write his letters which has just amazed me. I attribute that to his small class size with two full-time and one student teacher. Good luck to all of you!

PROS: they dont ever ask you for money for fundraising
CONS: building, food, playground unsafe, lots of chaos in my sons old room,

I have a toddler at Zelda's and we've been very happy with how his personality and intellect has blossomed over the last year. There is a central play area that allows positive interaction between the children, staff and parents. This is very important for the social development of children. We've always felt comfortable talking to the teachers, staff and director. They are always excited to tell you about something great your child did during the day. The children are always involved in art, music (singing, instruments and dancing), exploring their sensory skills, outdoor time (including playground and park), reading books, learning to count, etc. We have a daily journal entry that tells us what our child, and the other children, did during the day. This is so helpful for us, as parents, to build on his daily routine. We decided to use some sign language at home and were pleasantly surprise when the teachers expanded on our son's signing vocabulary. We, as parents, have also learned so much from the teachers and staff at Zeldas. No place is perfect and there have been some changes in staff over the last two years that has caused some negativity, but Zelda's is the type of place where if you want to be involved as a parent you can be. I would and have recommended Zelda's to other parents because I know our son is doing so well and is happy there!

PROS: kids do lots of art, music , exploring sensory skills, and are happy
CONS: does not have vacation/no tuition time off for families, no website

Had a bad experience there. Very dirty and unsafe daycare. Many parents have left or are leaving because management will not address problems. Does not compare to clayton or u city daycares in providing warm safe environment.

PROS: location
CONS: management, facility is awful, no pre-K room, kids seem stressed

Had a heartbreaking experience there. I loved my kids teachers but the facility was just run-down and has safety issues that management will not address. In over one year there not one positive change was made to building or classrooms.

I had my children at Zelda and thought that I found heaven on earth. But my confidence in the center quickly dwindled when the current Director, Cheryl took over. She is the most anti social person I have ever met. She just behaves as if she could care less whether or not your child is there. Their enrollment is almost at zero because of her. It used to be a good quality day care. I pulled my kids out and she acted shocked when I told her that it had a lot to do with the lack of communication and her lack of interaction with me and my kids. I honestly wonder how anyone could expect someone as dumb as her can lead children. Thank goodness the teachers are there otherwise the place would be gone in a month or two

PROS: Great teachers
CONS: It's inside an industrial court. The playground sucks.

My friend's kids go here and they love it. My friend says they have quality, educated people who are in charge, and they have a wealth and variety of activities for the kids every day so no one gets bored here. They do have a waiting list so if you are interested, go take a tour and then get on the list. My friend had to wait six months before she was able to take her kids here. They must be doing something right here to have a wait list. Great choice.

This place iswell known for good care but watch out for the prices they will make you go broke. But they do care well for your liitle ones. They offer tons of different thingsfor your kids to keep them busy and they help teach them too. They usually have a waiting list so stop by today for a tour
