I have been to many zoos throughout the country. This is one of the best. Over the last few years they have done some major renovating with River's Edge. The best family outing for free!! They always have neat family events. Lots of parking, and located in wonderful Forest Park. One word of advice. Park in the pay lots, there have been problems in the past with people having their cars broken into.

St Louis is nationally recognized as one of the most family-friendly locations in the country due to its many free venues such as the zoo. In addition to free admission and accessible parking, the zoo is filled with great activities. Plenty to do and see all year long! Plan to spend the day - and plan to go back often. Zoo membership is available for reasonable rates too!
PROS: Fantastic Animals, Activities, Events - and FREE admission
CONS: Some attractions are not available all year

Located in sunny Forest Park, the St. Louis zoo is the largest and certainly the best kept free zoo in America. Many animals, from monkeys to exotic birds to otters! Kids will love it.
Kind of chilly in the winter months, as it's open air in a lot of places; some exhibits close during the winter.
PROS: free! fun! cute animals!
CONS: some exhibits close during the winter
