This is not a bar and grill. The Juniper is warm, intimate and inviting. Almost homelike, a bar invites you in. Adequate space for small gatherings, and intimate conversations, the Juniper is a great place to meet friends and family. In comparison to other Soulard areas, it is clean, bright, and much more refined. The atmosphere is nice, but not overstated. The experience is exceptional because of the flavor of the food and the service. We arrived early for dinner, around 630pm and found at least 6-8 staff members providing service to 20 tables. We never wanted for a single thing. Drink services was excellent and timely. He drank from the variety of bottled ales, two of which he had never heard of before. She enjoyed generous and tasty mixed drinks. We started our meal with the house salad; an interesting mix of different greens and fennel. We shared the stuff shells; oh my, have chill bumps just thinking about them again, yes, that good. We're not much into goat cheese or crawfish, but this appetizer was an oral pleasure; smooth, slightly spicy, a tangled mix of perfection, practically unbelievable. For dinner, she had the stuffed shrimp, he had the 12oz NY strip. Both meals were presented well and exploded with quality and flavor. The dressing slice with the steak, an interesting blend. So much food we had to take some home, and remarkably, the shrimp was excellent even as left overs. In a nutshell the meals were invigorating and intoxicating. A review would not be complete without a word about the fresh bread, danty morsels of carbohydrate bliss, a little sweet, a little herbal, and perfect. Add fresh cornbread, steaming and sweet, and what more could you ask for. Oh, how about perfect service. If you want to enjoy sevice where everything is there before you ask, try the Juniper grill. An finesse, they do it right, on the right side!Bottom line, we tried everything everything excelled. From the drinks, the appetizers, main course, bread and service; everything was superb. We had a fabulous meal for just under $100, but have easily held back a few drinks and kept the meal at $75. A tremendous experience and flavorful delight for any couple who want a special night to remember. Enjoy with confidence.
