The Saint Louis Zoo is a great place to go to with the family, a date, or even with grandma. There is no entry fee and a variety of places to eat and animals to see. The newly added Penguin and Puffin house is a great escape from the sweltering heat of the summer. The surrounding area of Forest Park allows easy public access to many different views. These include The Saint Louis Art Museum, The Saint Louis Natural History Museum, The Aces Saint Louis Tennis Team, The Saint Louis Boat House, Steinberg Ice Rink, and The Jewel Box. Not to mention the Science Center right across the street. This area of Saint Louis makes for an excellent day out.

When I moved here, all the locals were raving that they had a free zoo. It's a fairly mediocre zoo for a moderately big city, but nothing special. As for free, there is a token charge for parking but that's not what I'm talking about. If you are a homeowner in St. Louis County, take a look at your property tax statement. You'll see that you are paying over $100 per year for your free zoo. So, if you don't live in St. Louis County and don't have access to a world class zoo, by all means visit this mediocre zoo and enjoy the low cost. If, on the other hand, you live in St. Louis County, you'd better visit it a lot. You're already paying through the nose for your "free" zoo.

St. Louis Zoo is our absolute favorite! It is free admission and all day entertainment. We generally take a picnic lunch and have a picnic in one of the nearby parks before we go in. We walk from the minute we get there until closing time and still don't get to see everything. It is HUGE!!! They have extra areas you can pay to get into (Insects, Children's zoo, etc.) but even without those, you will still have a hard time seeing everything!

The zoo is free to get into, but I'm still willing to pay for a membership to support this world-class attraction. There's always something new to see, and the animals are so well cared for. There's a new primate exhibit, an "elephant walk," and new projects on their way. I just can't say enough good things about this attraction.

The admission to this zoo is free... which is exceptional. This zoo entertains people of all ages and you can easily spend the day at the zoo as there are so many things to see and do. The animals are kept in a nature like surrounding. There are about 8 elephants and the enclosure for them is marvellous with streams flowing by. You can see tigers, bears, penguins, monkeys, hippo and number of birds. There is also a train ride which is fun to go around the zoo. World class educational entertainment for kids.

We are so lucky to have such a great zoo and it's FREE! My 3 year old is at such a great age. She loved the hippo exhibit where you could see them swimming under water and loved the seal show. Parking can be expensive at $9.00, but worth it since addmission is free - you really can't complain!

This is a huge, beautiful zoo located in the heart of Forest Park in St Louis, they still do not charge admission to enter this wonderful place. They offer every animal you can think of from snakes, gorillas, seals, lions, birds, giraffes, elephants, zebras, tigers, and more.

You can spend the entire day out here just walking from area to area. The Zoo also offers a fun children's zoo for a admission price they features, crafts, hands on fun, petting zoo and jungle gym fun to name a few great activities.

The St Louis Zoo is open year round offering special events all year round. Be sure to check out their website or give them a call to see what special events they have coming up.

PROS: Great free family fun

We in St. Louis are so blessed to have this amazing zoo in our backyard! It is by & far the best I've seen. The animal exhibits are terrific. They are continually adding to them & trying to make them as realistic as possible. Seeing the hippos swim up to you in the Water's Edge is amazing! My son's favorite is the Penguin House. Great place to cool off in the summer since it's so cold in there. The zoo is very well organized into sections, so it's easy to find your way around.

As others have said, admission is free, which is fantastic. Also, if you get to the parking lot before the zoo opens, you don't have to pay! And the first hour the zoo is open (varies depending upon time of year), you can go into the Children's Zoo, Inssectarium, and ride the Carousel for FREE!

I was not impressed with the food last time I went. It was pretty expensive and not the best. The great part is that they allow you to bring coolers & food in to the zoo, so you can sit at a table & eat your own lunch.

I've been to 2 of their extra activities too: Pumpkin Prowl & Christmas lights. Both were very well thought out. Impressive and lots of fun.

I decided to become a Zoo friend so that I could save money on "anywhere" tickets (good for train, carousel, etc) and parking. It also gives you discounts throughout the year.

Great, great, place!!!

This place is great. Everything you could want in a zoo. They just recently updated the African exhibits and the Penguin house. And last I knew.. The entrance to the park was Free! Parking can be a pain though.

This amazing zoo rises far above any other zoo in the tri-state area. I've been to the zoo's in Nashville, Evansville, and Chicago that you have to pay to get in and then it's just a huge disappointment once you're in. The St. Louis Zoo has free admission and you will not be disappointed with what you see. The exhibits and habitats are absolutely amazing!! There are some extras that you have to pay for like the train, children's zoo, and sea lion show. But, you could skip these activities and still have had a wonderfully fullfilling visit! I highly recommend this place to EVERYONE!!!

PROS: Wonderful, clean zoo!!
CONS: It closes at 7 pm. I could stay all night!

The St. Louis Zoo is an excellent place to take the family. One of the few Zoo's that remains without an admission charge, it is the perfect place to go to for everyone. Get there at least once per year.

We recently visited St. Louis zoo for the first time with our 5 year old and loved it. It was well laid out with alot of shade trees. They had a great childrens area with lots of fun things to do including little shows. The only thing I wish was a little better was the wet play area and the playground, it just wasn't very exciting. This is a great free family outing.

This is a great place for families to visit. Free admission into the zoo. There is a fee for parking in certain lots. If you are fortunate enough to find parking along the street that is free.

Awesome zoo! The animals are in areas that are more like their habitat and not just a cage. The monkey house is less than desirable due to the strong urine smell, but it is air conditioned.

The penguins are really neat. Worth the short wait to get in. They only allow so many in at a time. Very cold inside this place. No extra charge for it.

There are maps all over, do get one so you can figure out where you want to go and have not been.

There is a train ride around the zoo for a fee.

PROS: free parking, but limited

then if you move away and see what the rest of the world is like then you realize what you left behind here. Fornately for my kids we moved back here so they can see what I have seen for years and not know that its not free everywhere. You get a lot less and pay out the wazooo for small zoos that keep there animals in these tiny cages. ITs so sad to see those kind of things. Then you come here and in one day you are worn out and can't make it around the whole zoo to see everything thats there. Its exciting and fun to walk thru. It wears the kids out too which makes you feel better about feeling old and getting worn out, LOL. Its educational and the kids always love going here.

The zoo is an excellent place to spend time with your family and friends, also its a great way to get a good work out....lol...with all of thoses hills that you always seem that you have to hike up...anyways the zoo was fill with all kinds of information, trust me i learned more then i care to admit to, and the best thing is the zoo is free but they do charge you $9 for parking fee, but there are tons of places you can park for free...for example, the art museum, or the street, also i found the cost of the food, bottle water, soda to be very high. I would consider of spending a nice day at the zoo, and have a pinic lunch at the park grounds...lol...come on guys lets go the the zoo now!!!!

This zoo is the third largest in the country! Plan an all day outing for the zoo because with over 700 species of animals on exhibit, you will be lucky to see it all in one day. The zoo is open year round and admission is free. Parking is also free if you want to walk a little farther or you can pay to park closer to the entrance. Some of the areas of the zoo you will have to pay to see like the sea lion shows, insectarium and children's zoo. The children's zoo is basically like a petting zoo where the kids can pet the animals. The food and drinks are expensive, but they allow you to bring coolers so you can bring your own items with you. The animals seem to be out more in the cooler times of the year so spring and fall are great times to come if you want to see all of the animals.

The St Louis Zoo is a wonderful place to take your family. The admission to the zoo is free! There are huge, wonderful exhibits. The new Penquin house is awesome. There are several exhibits that allow you to get "up close and personal" with the animals. The zoo offers clean facilities and convenient restrooms. The zoo is in a convenient location, right off an interstate, and is right down the street from another free wonderful attraction.. the St Louis Science Center. You could easily spend a full day at the zoo and love every minute of it!

This is a great zoo. It costs nothing to get in and the exhibits are fantastic. They are constantly adding new thing. The childrens zoo does cost to get in but it is totally worth it. The parking can be a problem unless you want to pay and the food and beverages are very expensive so I would suggest you take your own and have a picnic. A must see in St. Louis

I just go tback for the zoo and it's free to get in. Some free parking but not much. $9.50 to park in the lots. My favorite part was the newer peguin house. All open and cold. Great on a day thats really hot out. Lots of walking. It took 4 hours to get through the zoo. Drinks are very expensive so bring lots of money. Food is expensive as well. I did like that you can rent a big stroller for the like.

It will take you a few days to see everything in this zoo. And its free to get in. Special things will cost you like the childrens zoo but if you go early in the morning it will be free and the train cost you money too. you can bring a lunch or snack in just don't feed the animals. The poor polar bear died on some plastic someone gave him, so remember don't feed the animals, they will eat just about anything.

I have been to the San Diego Zoo and the St. Louis zoo is better. There are so many things to see and do at the St. Louis Zoo. It is free to get into the main part of the zoo. The train is a great time and takes you around the entire zoo and it is reasonably priced. There is a tunnel that the train goes through that may scare smaller kids but it is a lot of fun. The children's zoo costs money but you can experience the animals hands on.
