I do like Childgarden. My child has really blossomed since joining Childgarden. The 1 year old teachers are so very nice and the playground is awesome. I like the fact they are accrediated. I've never had any problems with the teachers, but the adminstrative staff never calls me back for anything!!! They also lie to me a lot about little things (vacation time, availability, etc.). I appriecate that they take kids that are developmentally disabled and have therapists on staff.

11 years ago, during my wife's first pregnancy we were seeking a childcare center for our then to be future son. At the time we discovered Childgarden it was in a different location and was run solely by the St. Louis ARC. Now it is run by a partnership which includes the ARC and Easter Seals/UCP. They moved into a new center about 7 years ago but stayed in the same general CWE neighborhood. What we found was a child development center which was inclusive in every way racially, economically, educationally and developmentally. That is because one of missions of Childgarden is to provide an inclusive childcare environment for both normally developing kids and those that need more attention and care than other centers are equipped to provide. As this was our first child we struggled with the decision to put him in childcare at all but once we did we realized we had made the right decision. While he was normally developing it was comforting to know that the staff had skills and training in more than just ordinary daycare. The staff and other families became not only friends of our kids but of ours as well. My daughter still gets together with classmates from Childgarden for play dates.
Childgarden turned out to be better than we could have ever hoped for. Early childhood education is about giving kids a great start on their way to learning and life. Childgarden certainly exceeded our expectations. At the same time our son was graduating from Childgarden and headed off to kindergarten our new infant daughter was entering the program. Six years later we started the process over again. Over a 10 year period, through different administrations, teachers and buildings we always found it to be a nurturing, caring place. The dedicated teachers worked tirelessly with both the normally developing kids as well as those with greater challenges. The teachers and kids became like family to us. While our children learned all the expected pre-school basics they also learned empathy, acceptance and respect which we believe comes directly from the inclusive nature of the school. Both our son and daughter were very well prepared when they entered Clayton schools. Most importantly Childgarden was a place where ALL the kids were loved and welcome regardless of ability, skin color or family background. Those are wonderful values they will take with them for the rest of their lives.

Great administration, but awful experience anyways. There were blatant instances of abuse to my child by at least 2 teachers. Childgarden hotlined themselves (which I give them a lot of credit for) but that does not change the fact that it happened there to my child. We should have listened to our gut when we first visited. We knew that the teachers didn't seem great, but we justified it by the amazing admin team. Save yourself and your child a lot of pain and DO NOT put your child there!

be careful dont be fooled by awesome facility I had unbelieveably bad experienceS there for my family-- maybe it has changed since 03 04 - the director was not proactive with employees, serious issues were not addressed, I was taken in by concept of the daycare, but the daycare definitely did not hold up to the idea they try to espouse...
