I made a reservation and gave my credit card information for the deposit. On the day of the kayaking my group and I made a mistake and went to the wrong kayaking location (Seminary Canoe Rental-which was a great experience). We had reserved a total of 7 boats and ended up getting slapped with a $135 fee for our mistake. On the website it says each boat is a $10 deposit so I was obviously overcharged by $65. After spending 10 minutes on the phone of the owner refusing to honor the price he eventually hung up on me. Terrible customer service. I will never schedule with them again

I went canoeing on the Okatoma for the first time this weekend. I want to first say that the staff and facilities at Okatoma Canoe Rental are terrific!! The Okatoma is a great place to canoe. Beautiful and winding. Unfortunately, the Okatoma is quite dirty and polluted. Empty beer cans lined the small beaches, plastic trash bags clung to trees. Empty plastic bottles floated down the river, and at one point we saw a plastic toilet seat hanging from a tree on the shoreline. I counted 5 tires in the water and along the shore during our 13 mile canoe trip. Also, at one point we saw a giant plastic slide and large barrel lodged in some trees under water. We had a large black trash bag with us for our garbage and decided to pick up trash as we canoed. We filled the bag!!! So sad to see nature in this condition when there were so many people on the river. Don't see why this can't easily be cleaned up!!! Everybody grab an extra trash bag on your next canoe trip and clean clean up!!! Definitely the dirtiest river/creek I have ever canoed.

My family loves the Okatoma!! We camped and canoed there this past weekend and had a blast! The owners and their staff will go out of their way for you and treat you just like family. We are new to the camping and canoing experience so this was a GREAT first for us. We felt safe and when it was time to go home on Sunday my 4 yr old and 8 yr. old begged to stay just one more night. Although I wished we could I promised them and myself that we would definitely be back!!

P.S... If you have small children and want to canoe, let them take you to the Seminary drop-off and canoe to the landing (which they will tell you before you go) it takes ~3/4 hours and VERY small rapids. We NEVER flipped or even got close to flipping and my husband and I had ZERO experience canoing These people complaining about their experience and the staff were more than likely out there acting like fools and/or drunk!

Took the kids (ages 2, 8, & 9) and had a pretty good time. They have an all new shop across the street from the old one and it's a big improvement. Wish they would have had more of a selection of t-shirts in the gift shop, but the restroom were clean and the showers were hot (which is so nice after you get off the river. Lots of college kids out, but everyone was pleasant and alot of help when it came to taking the kids down the rapids. I see alot of bad reveiws, but I don't know why. Probably written by some of the people we saw out there yesterday that can't swim and have no experience paddling, but decided it would be a good idea to go down rapids. DUMB! It's a nice river, but I advise anyone to know how to swim or control your boat! If not your in for a bad time and you deserve it! Would you go out hunting without knowing or learning first how to use a gun?! All the employees were very nice.

My wife and I went had no experience with a canoe, We were told it would be safe and a class I river. Most of it is very calm water you just have to dodge trees and stumps in the water, but the 5 water falls can be very dangerous for beginners. We went on the 8 mile canoe trip yesterday and we thank God we got back alive. The first water fall is too narrow for a canoe. One man broke his arm on this first water fall. My wife and I were thrown into 10 foot deep water between large rocks at this water fall. Another woman injured her foot on rocks in the second water fall. This trip is not advised unless you have some experience with canoes, Can be very dangerous. The owners should have warned us about the water falls and the correct method of going down them.

To make a very long story short. I might recommend the 7mile trip..I can see that being fun. I DO NOT recommend anything longer than that. For some reason, my group decided to do the overnight 19 mile trip. Which, we did not find out until the next day, they no longer do. Even though it says that they offer it on the website. We told them when we rented the canoes that we were going on the 19 mile, we asked the bus driver if we were being dropped off at the 19 mile drop off, and there was a lady in an Okatoma T-shirt, at what we know now was the last pickup point, that told us to keep going when we asked where some sand bars were to camp out on and if we were supposed to get off at this pickup point. So after finally finding a sandbar to camp on for the night we started out the next day and had to call them to see where we were supposed to be picked up. Well, we were then informed that they no longer do the 19 mile trip and that we should've gotten off at that last pickup point. So, we made it to a bridge at Lux and had to carry 6 canoes and all the gear up the side of the bridge in the rain. I have to say that the bus driver was very helpful and nice but it would have really saved us a lot of grief if one of the three people we told about going on the 19 mile trip would've stopped us to say that they no longer do that and to get off at the last pick up point....

First of all it's a business not a dang babysitter club, 2nd of all the other canoe rental owner is way more ruder!! If you listened when they were talking they tell you exactly how to manover around the falls and everything you need to know , but some of you obviously dont have enough common sense to get out of the rain.... And i can tell you that the bus drivers do not and have not been drinking or drunk while responsible for other peoples lives, and when you run a business you have to be inforcing or people treat you like crap and run over you....We go ever year and have no problems at all.... also in the campground rules it says no loud music so if you would have fallowed the rules they probally wouldnt have holored at you !!

This trip can be dangerous on canoes. We were not warned that the end of the canoe trip drops into a very deep hole. If you are a poor swimmer, make sure you wear a life jacket. Staff is unfriendly and unaccommodating.

The people who run this canoe rental company are very "relaxed" on their customer safety. We were first time visitors to this area & when we asked them questions like, how has the weather been, is the water level safe, what should we expect, we were given answers like "we don't watch the weather channel, the water should be good." It is a shame they don't spend a little more time letting their customers know what to expect. First off, I would NOT suggest a canoe down this river, the class 1 rapids & waterfalls are not very easy to manuever a 17 foot canoe down-even for people who are used to canoeing. If you choose this trip, go with the kayak. Also, for some reason, this canoe rental place thinks it is perfectly ok to rent kayaks to groups of young kids without chaperones, namely young pre-teen & teen girls. We came across a few young girls who were tired, scared, & regretting their decision to kayak down this pretty tough creek/river. The people who run this outpost also give out false information regarding weather reports, which is pretty unfair to folks, like us, who aren't from the area & have no idea about what to expect weather wise. We were told it hasn't rained there & it should be sunny. Too bad they were WRONG! Come to find out, it had been raining there & on the day we set out, as we later came to find out, flash floods, lightning storms, & thunderstorms were forecasted for the day. So we got caught on the river in the lightning, thunder, & flash flood for an hour. Yes, we could have been more informed on our part but when we asked the LOCALS who OWN the place, they could have at least given us some warning, especially knowing that we had signed up for the long trip, 13 miles. As for that, again we signed up for the 13 mile trip, the guy who took us to the drop off point explained to us where we would have to paddle to but when we got back from our trip from hell, the lady at the desk-who signed us up that morning for the 13 mile trip-says "Oh, we were waiting for you guys at the 7 mile pick up!!!! So if the weather had continued on & we would have been stuck out there after dark, it is so good to know that they wouldn't even have been looking for us upstream, even though we signed up for the 13 mile trek & the guy at the 7 mile mark watched us float by, again without warning us that a HUGE storm was brewing & headed straight for us. Not to mention that after the first 7 miles, which includes the rapids & waterfalls, there is NOTHING waiting for you on the next 6 miles but stagnent water that does not flow, logs sticking out of the water, & rock beds that you have to drag your canoe over. Do NOT waste your time on the 13 mile trip, unless you like stinky, shallow, stagnent water & dragging your canoe over rock beds.
The 7 mile trip itself can be very fun, beautiful, & challeging, I would just suggest going with another canoe outpost, the people here are not very interested in safety & honesty, it looks like all they really care about is the $30 & after that, it is pretty much good luck to you suckas. We love the outdoors & love canoeing but this place is NOT the kind of place that you should trust your fun time or your safety with. Find another canoe outpost, ask questions, check out the weather for yourself, & be thankful that you were warned about okatoma outdoor post, I wish we would have been!

I want to thank the guys at Okatoma Outdoor for a great kayak experience. I was sure tired after the paddling, but it felt real GOOD.

Easy folks to deal with, I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

I will NEVER camp at the Okatoma Outdoor Post again! They put us next to a barn, in a field of mud that does not drain water properly and also smells of sewage. The hookups do not half way work and the bathrooms were real dirty with NO tissue in the stalls. We were also in a residential area and the neighbors were rude and threatened to call the police on us for playing our music to loud and yelling. Which I do not blame them for the threat now, just because I would not want that mess next to my home either. This is definitely NOT a true campground at all and the owners should not advertise that it is.

Hi I had a great time and would say this is a good place to go. The creek is real nice and even though you'll get wet like I did thats half the fun.
I liked the fact i can get some food also when i finish the paddliong which made me VERY hungry. One way to get some healthy exercise.

My first experience with Ronnie and the Okatoma Outdoor Post was 18 years ago. I'm 30 now, and I've been down that river more times than I can recall. I don't know what else you could ask for. Sometimes the river is high; sometimes it's low (last week it was low). But there's something about the river itself that insists you forget about drop-offs and pick-ups. Most trips, I banish my cell phone to the car. Do you know how many calls I missed while I was out here? Neither do I. :-) The best outfitter makes sure that the logistics of the journey don't interfere with the point of it. Ronnie, Lisa, and the staff make sure that, at the end of the day, you remember your time on the river, not your time trying to get to or from the river. I just completed my second trip in a kayak, and it's pure decadence. For a long time, I would postpone a trip when I couldn't find a bow for my canoe. With the kayaks, there will never be a need. This is first-rate family, and they've built a first-rate operation.

I would NOT recommend this campsite. My son and his friend walked over to the tee pees to look at them after dark. ( we were not told they had to stay in campsite) FOUR vehicles flew up to our tent around 9 pm and accused my son of trying to break in to an RV. We were told with very vulgar language to stay in their headlights where they could see us.. Accused us of trying to steal WITH NO EVIDENCE. Told us unless we wanted to get shot we should stay in our camp site. Some men (who I don't know what their association with the campground was..) told us the law enforcement around there was not good and EVERYBODY had a gun. This was told to two women and two 16 year year old kids. Felt like everyone there assumed we were criminals. We won't go back. The river is also littered with trash.. Beer cans everywhere

Well all i can say is whatever you do, do not go to the owners with a complaint of any kind. I went tot he owner to tell him his bus driver had been drinking before driving the bus and he assulted me and hurt me pretty badly. These people claim to be Christians but they just use the Lords name to promote their business. They are truley terriable people, I have pictures of myself after I was beaten by the owner for "insulting his kin." Please keep your family safe and do not promote this kind of business.
