Taylor Grocery, MS
I have NEVER been treated so RUDELY in my 46 years of life.
My Parents (close to 70 years of age) and I met my Sister and her family in MS to attend my Nieces graduation from Ole Miss.
We all live at least a 4 hours?? drive away from each other. This was a family gathering and Celebration.
My Niece was excited to take us to this "Grocery" she had heard about.
We arrived at 5:50pm, signed in as a party of 11. We were told we would have a 2 hour wait.
My niece was told ahead of time that we could "tailgate" in the parking lot as we waited. We brought chairs, cooler etc.
We had a nice time visiting and meeting the friends she had invited to come with us.
I had gone in twice to use the ONE restroom available (another VERY long wait) and was pleasantly surprised to see many large tables of guest.
We are accustomed to waiting for long periods when eating out together as a large family, so I was pleased to see they had accommodated other large parties.
The following is only a BRIEF description of what followed....it was actually MUCH WORSE than can be translated on page, as TONE is difficult to denote!
The problem began when we were finally called to be seated about 2.5 hours later.
We walked in and were told we would have to be seated at separate tables. When we asked if there was any way we could sit together, we were told with the most "UNCIVIL TONE" I have ever heard, "you can sit here, or continue to sit outside!"
When someone in my party said (with a raised brow) "Excuse me?? the discourteous response was, "We told you when you walked in, we could not sit you together".... When we ask if there ??was any reason we could not push the tables together so we could chat while we enjoyed diner?? we were told in the same malcontent tone "you can eat now and talk later, or go back outside!"
At this point I got up from my chair and went to the front to ask for the owner. I wanted him to know about the unacceptable treatment we were receiving from his "hostess". I received the same impolite responses from the owner. He never once looked at me during our encounter. I was SHOCKED, AMAZED and SPEECHLESS!
When I responded "I guess you just have all the business you need" He excuse was "we??re busy...you can continue to wait, or leave." WOW! Is what I was thinking??.when...... of all things......the "hostess" interrupted...and.....about 10 inches from my face said, "are you saying I was being rude to you??. I responded, "Yes ma'am, just like now....that is exactly what I am saying". She continued in the same nasty tone, "all I said to you was, we cannot seat you together!? I then stated, ??there is no misunderstanding as to WHAT you are saying, the inquiry is, HOW you ARE SAYING it".
The encounter did not get any better from that point on. My last statement to the owner was "I wouldn??t eat here if it was the only choice for my last meal on this earth!"
Neither the OWNER nor HIS DAUGHTER! (Yes...the HOST!) understood that their ILL-MANNERED PERSONALITIES are EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE. The fruit did not fall far from the tree there at Taylor Grocery!
I and the others in the party that decided they would rather starve.....did just that.....sat outside and waited HOURS for the others in our party that felt they had NOWHERE ELSE to go. As we sat outside we were not surprised to hear others discussing the same treatment.
I would have been ashamed to support such a DISSOLUTE ESTABLISHMENT....therefore; I DID NOT and NEVER WILL!
Please take the time to read the many other negative reviews of this place before wasting 4 hours of your time, or taking the risk of spoiling your precious time with your family and friends.
My Niece and my Mother were tearful, and heartbroken!
Shame on Taylor, MS for enabling this ??Grocery?; therefore, supporting this type of treatment of others!

.

Hostess extremely rude to 3 people in our party & was observed being rude to another group of diners. This was our first time to dine & a repeat visit for my family, but it was certainly our last visit. If you want quality customer service & mediocre food then eat here. The catfish was fair, the fried okra greasy, and the baked beans were cold & tasted like they had been dumped out of a can. The bldg has character, but the owners need to look at their hostess staff if they want customers or "they will starve." What ever you do, don't expect to wait inside even if it is cold on the porch & they can't be bothered to tell someone where the waiting area is (two doors down we learned after dinner.)

I love Taylor Grocery. It has a great casual family atmosphere and the food is great. They don't serve much- steak, catfish, and chicken pretty much comprise the entree list- but you don't need anything else. I recommend the sausage and cheese plate as an appetizer and the desserts are wonderful. Because it is brown bag, you bring your own wine. There can be a long wait and they don't take reservations, so bring an extra bottle and glasses to enjoy until you're seated.

There is a great little art gallery across the street that is home to art by many of the local residents. It's a wonderful way to spend some time on a Mississippi evening!
