I recently relocated to Raleigh and Salon Blu wasn't far from my house, so I made an appointment for a trim and highlights. I was very happy with my current hairstyle of a slightly angled bob that fell just above my shoulders. I just needed it trimmed up a bit. A natural curly-head, I wore my hair straight the day I went in, but informed the stylist that my hair was actually very curly, and showed her a photo of myself with my hair curly so she could see. I told her what I wanted, showed her another photo of myself with the hairstyle I wanted (same as what I had but slightly shorter), and informed her that I did NOT want the front cut at all, just shortened up in the back a little, as I was trying to grow it out some.

During the cut, I was turned away from the mirror so I didn't know anything was going wrong. As she was drying my hair, I still couldn't see myself in the mirror, but she made a few comments like "Oh, wow, your hair really IS curly." She must not have believed me or paid attention when I told her I had curly hair and showed her the picture of my curls. After my hair was completely dry, she spent an unusually long time continuing to cut. I started to become a little nervous as huge, long chunks of my hair kept falling into my lap and onto the floor. When she turned me toward the mirror after the cut and style, I had to fight back tears because it was NOTHING AT ALL like what I had asked for -- in fact, it was the opposite. She had not only shortened the back, but also cut the front pieces mouth-length and created some sort of fringe around my face. Because my hair had shrunk a good bit shorter after she cut it due to her not paying attention to the fact that I had curly hair, she had taken the thinning shears to my head and removed a very large amount of my hair so that it would lie flat against my head, I guess to save face for it being so short, and now completely poofy and ridiculous looking. I reminded her that I had not wanted the front shorter, and she explained that she had "no choice" but to cut it this short to even out the pieces in the front. She then had the gall to recommend hair extensions. I paid $250. When straight, my hair resembles a mullet. Wearing my hair curly is no longer an option because it looks like a clown wig when I do.

I think it's important to note that this all happened almost four months ago, and I have tried to be kind and waited this long to write a bad review, hoping that I would like it better once it grew out some. But it's still a nightmare of a haircut and I have to take extra time every morning to strategically pin back pieces of my hair to conceal the too-short, uneven pieces and chunks of missing hair from where she took the thinning shears to my head. At one time I had really nice, voluminous, healthy hair that I was complimented on often. Now it's just a thinned out disaster. There was no fixing to the cut at the time because there was barely any hair left to fix, and there still isn't after 4 months. I went to another stylist recently and she told me there was really nothing she could do, but agreed that it was a very unfortunate cut, and told me it will take about a year for it to be normal again.

I should have demanded a refund and didn't, but I think that my walking advertisement of a very poorly-done cut will speak for itself about this salon. I used to get compliments on my hair, and now friends have consistently commented that they "liked my hair the other way better" or ask what made me want to cut it this way. A lot of them ask who did this and I tell them I got it cut at Salon Blu. Just don't go here. It's overpriced, and they don't listen. I should have read all of these reviews before I went.

To be fair, here are the pros:

The girl who answers the phone is friendly and can schedule you in quickly. The stylist was friendly. The color job was good.

The salon itself is good. The staff is always very polite when I come in. However, the stylist Rachel that works there is another story. I've had some good cuts from her, but she has completely BUTCHED my hair the last 3 times. I know, I know, why did I keep going back? Well, I've gone to her for a few years and kept hoping that things would get better. After this last haircut though, I'm very aware that just isn't going to happen.

My daughter got a very mediocare haircut at a high price. Not worth the price and not warm or friendly.

Since Susan took over as management the place feels very uptight and uncomfortable. the hairstylist dont even appear comfortable. The whole experience is not comfortable any more. Amanda and Hanna did a better job making the clients feel special and want to come back. This is not the place I want to be when I spend a lot of money to relax and have my hairdone or let it down so to speak. You just can't let your hair down there any more. And speaking of that, what happened to my favorite Hairdresser Tiffany Holmes, Where did she go? Please tell me so I can go and enjoy my hair getting done. One more thing, I Feel as if Susan the new manager must make money off of sales because everything, every little tiny thing is billed now. Full hair cut prices for bangs and textorizing and I guess tissues if you sneeze? I don't feel like I am being treated as a good client I feel as if I am a dollar bill when I go there. So PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND TIFFANY. MY WHOLE FAMILY LOVES HER and so do all of our friends.

At Salon Blu, I always felt like my business was unappreciated. The stylists there act stuck up and they were really rude. I have found a MUCH better stylist and environment at Tanas. I will NEVER go back to Salon Blu.

Let me start off by saying I am unbelievably picky and no other stylist has ever been able to recreate what I've asked for, even if I bring pictures or allow them to create it themselves with just a ""vision"" or idea of what I want. That all changed when I came to Salon Blu!\n\nMy sister referred me to Kaitlyn at the Brier Creek salon in Raleigh. Thank goodness for that or I may have never found her! Kaitlyn did an AMAZING job the first time she cut, colored and styled my hair. I seriously have never felt so great about my hairstyle. She also taught me how to recreate my hairstyle without pushing products on me (I did buy a few things, though :D) \n\nThe second time (recently) she colored and cut my hair, I felt the same. Amazing! I love love love Kaitlyn.\n\nNow I do want to mention the pricing of the cuts and colors, I spent a pretty penny on my hair cut, retouch/color, and style. I was unable to leave the tip she deserved because the price was unexpected (it was about 50 dollars more than the previous cut/color for some reason), however I would never think twice of changing salons because of the price. Why mess with a good thing?\n\nKaitlyn is amazing. I definitely recommend her!

New to the area, I was hesitant to re-color my hair with a new stylist, or attempt to find a new salon. I had been online and seen all of the negative reviews for Salon Blu, and heard a few word of mouth warnings from people in Raleigh of bad experiences they had there; however, I decided to try them out for this single service, and maybe get a cut later if I liked it.\n \nMy stylist was an ""intermediate"" ranking of some sort with only one year of experience in hair, and was extremely friendly and kind; however, I have a lot of experience with $250 haircuts/colors in other premier salons, and Salon Blu should price their services more fairly. I left with a color job that looked like a $90 price-tag, but paid $195 for it with tip. She did as well as she could, and I guess it's not her fault that a stylist with only one year's experience is told to charge $95 for a highlight.\n\nI left with soggy wet hair because if you don't get a cut, you have to pay $30 more for a blow dry! I understand that it may not be necessary to blow-style hair if only color is done, but a customer who spends two hours in a salon and pays for $200 in services should not be sent out with wet hair-- it ruins the experience and makes your client feel like they're not worth it. \n\nThe receptionist was extremely friendly, and scheduled me to have my hair corrected, and it looks great now; however, I was not allowed to speak with an owner regarding my experience, which I thought was shoddy management from someone who owns their own business and should take pride in it. \n\nThis failure on the owner's part was intensified by the fact that during my original appointment, my stylist pointed her out to me and told me she was the owner, and the same woman was in the salon the day I came to get it fixed. She was present the entire time, and never even said hello to me or apologized for my horrible experience. \n\nSalon Blu has extremely friendly and professional staff, but the owners are failing to do their part to make this a successful client experience. If I would have been called, allowed to speak with, or cared for my this management, I would not have written this review. The owners should care more about their clients, and have a more fair pricing scale to keep customers from feeling like they've been robbed. \n\n

I went to Salon Blu with the belief I would be pleased with highlights and a haircut. I asked for carmel highlights-I have red. I asked to have my hair trimmed and it is 2 inches shorter. The stylist told me they have their own way of cutting hair which was extending my hair upward to cut. Then the stylist went back again through my hair with thinning scissors only to cut more off. I won't be going back since I paid over a hundred dollars to not be listened to.

I went to Salon Blu in Raleigh in January to get an overfried hair lightening cut out. Joy did a really nice job - the first time. When I went back to have it shaped up for my daughter's wedding she hacked it up. The wedding is next week. One side is longer then the other and believe me it is extremely short - like a military cut so there is nothing left to correct. She also used those thinning shears on my hair which is wavy already so that just makes it stick out all over the place. When I asked her why one side wasn't laying down she said we could put hair spray on it! I am so embarrassed to go to my daughter's wedding like this and the haircut cost me $60 with the tip. Not going back.

I have tried several places to cut my wavy thick hair. Each place absolutely butchered my hair. I found Salon Blu online and decided to give it a try. Best Idea ever. Dana is definitely the best! I would recommend it to anyone. For those who have been complaining, seriously grow some thick skin and stop being so overly dramatic. This place is wonderful!

I'm very upset right now! My daughter's prom is on tomorrow and she won a free hair-do at this salon from her school. We have not been able to talk to the stylist yet to let her know what style we are looking for! This says a lot about this salon when you give other people a run around!

I visited Salon Blu's Brier Creek location today on a whim. I was in the area, and needed a haircut, and had heard some good things about it. I called them, and they were able to give me an appointment with Felicity immediately. Felicity was very sweet, and did a great job on my cut. She gave a wonderful, relaxing shampoo scalp massage, took her time with the cut, and then blew it out, as well as flat ironed it, which was a treat. Cost was $45, and I found that very reasonable. \n\nI will definitely return, and would highly recommend Felicity.

I have been seeing Casey at the Falls location for almost 4 years now and as long as she is there, I will never let anyone else touch my hair! The first time I sat in her chair I had an awful, long, plain hairstyle that some clueless stylist had given me at another salon. Casey has given me exactly what I wanted each time. I usually don't do anything different and she is fine with doing exactly what I want. Stylists at Salon Blu do NOT give everyone the same cut and they don't want everyone to ""look like them"" - as long as you communicate exactly what you want and don't want then they are happy to give it to you and make you look amazing.

I went to Salon Blu I believe twice, and after the 2nd time, I decided I would not return. My stylist went on and on about my gray hair, as if she were offended that some of my hair was gray. I don't pay that much money to be insulted.

Even though I had to drive almost 30 minutes, I took a friend's suggestion to let Thea highlight and color my hair. \r\n\r\nShe was great. She asked what I was looking for and we talked about what I could expect (given the terrible color I had gotten from my last stylist). \r\n\r\nI love my color and the cut is great too!. If you are looking for someone with just enough 'edge' she's the one to go to!

She is a wonderful stylist! I have thick, wavy, and frizzy hair. She dyed and styled my hair to perfection. I absolutely love my new hair style. She did such a wonderful job. I have an easy time doing my hair in the morning and the style she gave me looks good with any type of clothing. I have had so many people compliment me on my new hair style. I have even had some man hit on me. LOL! I have recommended Lacie to all my friends and even strangers that compliment me. She gave me business cards to pass out and I need more. Anyone reading this when you call salon blu you will have to ask for her because they do not have her listed on their website. I am not sure why because to me she is the best stylist around. I will never go to anyone else!

She is a wonderful stylist! I have thick, wavy, and frizzy hair. She dyed and styled my hair to perfection. I absolutely love my new hair style. She did such a wonderful job. Salon Blu is seriously the greatest salon in Raleigh, I tried two others when I moved here and Salon Blu is the greatest. I moved here from NYC, so I was used to upscale salons, and Salon Blu is worth the money. Casey and Rachael B. have done my hair and they were amazing. They listened to all of my needs and they used their creative eye to take my hair to a new level. I have never been so pleased. My roommate also gets her hair done at the salon and she went from dark brown to platinum blonde and it looks great. They can give you a classic cut or an edgy punk rock cut. But no matter what, it's great! right on Salon Blu!

My wife and I went there, and at first things were ok. The stylist was snooty and would not do what we asked. They were very expensive, and the salon people working there were not friendly at all. Will not go back!!

I have to say I'm a little disappointed to see some of the negative comments on here about Salon Blu in Brier Creek. I have been going to Amanda for almost 2 years and I have NEVER had a bad experience. She is professional, friendly, and does amazing things with color. I get more compliments on my hair than I ever have with any other stylist and I'm always quick to refer people to Amanda. Somehow she manages to make my hair look awesome and color it exactly how I want it done, even when I'm not sure what I want! She is talented, quick, and knows what she's doing. I have never had a bad experience with any of the other staff there either. I have taken my 14 year old Stepson there on 2 occassions and he's been pleased with the outcome as well. He lives in Texas and will only get his hair cut at Salon Blu when he's in Raleigh. It says a lot about a stylist if they can please a picky 14 year old boy! I would highly recommend this salon to everyone. The people who have had bad experiences and negative comments need to realize that not everyone is perfect, there is always some margin for error in everything you do and the staff at Salon Blu would never intentionally give a bad cut or color to anyone! Thank you to the staff at Salon Blu for the great job you do!

The first time I visited this salon, I noticed that two women who left within a few minutes of each other (so clearly had different stylists)both had exactly the same haircut. That should have been my first clue. I didn't get the haircut I wanted but went back a second time to give them another try. On the second visit, I still didn't get the haircut I asked for and the price had gone up by about 20%. When I asked why the price had gone up so much, the receptionist said she didn't know and walked off. The salon is seriously overpriced and relies heavily on a flat iron to style virtually every haircut they do. So unless you are willing to spend lots of time styling your own hair, the haircuts they seem to specialize in aren't going to work well for you. I also noticed lots of gossiping about other clients while I was there. I wouldn't go back to this salon.

I've been to a lot of salons searching for a good colorist and Jessi fits the bill. My friend recommended Jessi (at Brier Creek) and I was very satisfied. You know when you have found someone that has that natural ability -- and Jessi has it. I'll definitely be back.

I have been going to Salon Blu for about 3 years now. My stylist is Tara at Falls. She is AWESOME! Very personable and always knows how to make me look good! The prices are expensive, but so worth it to me. I have tried going other people when I couldnt get an appt at Salon Blu soon enough... and was absolutely not satisfied... no one measures up to Salon Blu's standards in my opinion! The salon is always clean, very trendy. I dont trust anyone else!!!!

I found the staff and stylists hard to swallow. They claimed their high prices were for the professional quality stylists they had. I tend to differ. I had my hair colored there for 6 months. Every time I had an issue with either the color or with the color being left below the hairline. The stylist tried to remove it, but never removed all of it. I never had this problem before or never had to request that the stylist do so. Even after requesting a specific color, many times it turned out too dark. When I had my hair cut, it wasn't cut, but simply clipped and lightly trimmed. Approaching the stylist was a waste of time. She was young, and defensive. Her social skills needed work. If I liked the people more, I probably would have put up with it, but they weren't sincere or professional.

Chauna at Salon Blu is amazing. She took my unmanageable, extra thick, dry, poufy, curly hair and whipped it into shape! Noone has ever been able to accomplish this. Not tedious task! Not to mention the other staff members are super nice and place a big emphasis on client service. I will definitely be returning

I am very pleased with my haircut that I recieved by a stylist at the Falls Village location. However I have a problem with her professionalism. She uses foul language when ever i am in her chair and it makes me extremely uncomfortable. Just about every other word out of her mouth is a cuss word. She also shares a great deal of personal information and talks negitively about her co-workers. This is not exactly what I would expect from one of the top salons in the area. I don't want to use the stylists name, but I hope that the owner of the salon can figure out who I am talking about.

Good for you Jennifer- I am glad to see a business owner taking up for herself. Dont worry honey, you are doing something right...people who know you and your Salon know that it is top notch. I have gone to Salon Blu for 2 years now. Lauren is my stylist and I love her to pieces. This last trip in, she gave me the trendiest cut I have had in years along with fabulous color. She also did my 4 year old daughters hair. My little girl felt and looked like a princess when we left. If you are looking for personlity, style, and class, Salon Blu is the best place to go!

I am a regular customer at Salon Blu Brier Creek. I recently came back from an overseas trip and have to go to Salon Blu to have my hair done (and fixed). I called Salon Blu and learned that my usual hairstylist is on vacation. So I asked the receptionist to recommend someone who would do good on colors as I am already tired of my highlighted, high-maintenanced hair. He recommended Jessica. I initially just wanted to have my hair re-colored to my natural color but then as I was consulting with her, I asked her if she can also give me a haircut. My recent haircut was a bad one. During my vacation/trip, I decided to get a haircut in my country as it is really cheap to get one there. Yeah, right! It was cheap alright and my hair just looked so cheap and chopped, too! It looked awful! I've always had layered hair and I know when the cut of the layers is good or bad. This one was really bad!! And so, rush to Salon Blu for a hair fix.... When Jessica finished my color and cut, I went out of that salon so happy that Jessica was recommended to me. I even got my first compliment from another customer while I was paying. She told her husband seated beside her that I have a beautiful hair. Thank you, Jessica! I think I will have her do my hair from now on :-)

Went to the Alexander Place branch of Salon Blu after seeing notice of awards, etc. I guess I should have done more homework on a particular stylist to request but for some reason was under the impression that only very good and experienced stylists worked there. What I got was an embarrassment. I am not vain or all into my hair but after coming out looking much worse than going in I am literally embarrassed to be in family photographs over the holidays. What I wanted was a sophisticated, modern look. What I got was hick-town hair-band wannabe circa 1985. Scrunching and pointy ""wings,"" anyone? Upon getting home my husband actually said, ""What the hell?!"" Not the reaction one would want! I do not enjoy giving such a harsh review, and I will say many of the employees there had cute, updated looks, but it will be daily ponytails for me until I can afford to get it fixed ... somewhere else.

I've lived all of the US and have been to many salons but none compare to Salon Blu. I typically see Rachel B. She is wonderful-great stylist and a great person. Jess straightened my super curly hair and did a great job and Tisch fixed my hair for me after I put a straightener on it myself (yikes). They are the best ever.

Jessie is the bomb! I am totally one of those people that did the great clips thing for a long time and then realized that one length is not the way to go. Jessie listened and gave me a cut that was EXACTLY what I wanted. She read my kind of adventerous and then conservative side and gave me an awesome cut. I will go back to her for a long time because she is funky and fun but knows exactly how to make you feel comfortable and she plays up your personal style. Salon Blu is trendy and great but they totally make you feel welcome and are excited to give you whatever you want. I would totally suggest Jessie and Salon Blu to anyone.

I was referred to Jesse by one of my best friends, and could not have been happier. She took her time with my cut and color and my hair looks the best that it has ever looked (IT REALLY DOES). I am so glad to find a young, hip stylist that truely understood what I wanted. Jesse...You are awesome girl! Thanks for the time that you put into my hair on Monday! I love it and can't wait to come back next month.

I just moved to Raleigh, and I called in to make an appointment at Salon Blu. When I asked to see someone with more experience, they actually gave me an amazing stylist! The girl I had was named Casey, and she was the best. I was nervous because I have been with the same stylist for about 10 years, but the outcome of my hair put me at ease. I feel so relieved because I felt like Casey was listening to what I wanted, and she actually taught me some styling tips. We had a blast on my first visit, and there will be many more. Moving is stressful enough without having to worry about your hair, but I found a great salon and an amazingly talented young woman. I must add that her trainee was extremely sweet and helpful as well.

Jessica at Salon Blu on Falls saved my poor sick hair, which is why I call her the 'Hair Doctor'. I had gone to another stylist at a different salon who did a horrible job and was almost in tears. I drove half a mile down the road to Salon Blu and they were able to squeeze me in that same day with the lovely Jessica. I had about 3 different hair cuts in mind and she was able to translate all three into a wonderful haircut that I get compliments on ALL the time. I can't say enough about how pleased I was with her work. I am moving to Japan and intend on planning my trips back for when I need a trim, she's that good ;-)

So I've been seeing Matt for over a year now and I just had to brag on him finally. Matt is incredible--always listens to my concerns, then gives a creative answer that totally suits my personality and hairstyle. He's constantly updating my look! He's very easy to talk to and very honest, but not in a way that hurts your feelings. His colors always look beautiful and the haircut does great every time I go home. He doesn't use those thinning scissors, so my hair never gets frizzy or too thin looking. He just has an amazing way with hair. He stays so booked up now I always have to make my appointments before I even leave! Go see Matt, but call way ahead of time!

If you want a hack and slash hair cut, go to this place. There was a large section on my head that hadn't been cut, but I didn't discover it until I tried to style it later. Parts of the hairstyle stood up (where thinning shears were used) and other parts were flat (where the stylist--and I use that word lightly) where she apparently didn't thin as much. I fixed it, since I was a hair stylist years ago and learned that you never go back to a place that screwed it up the first time. They'll just screw it up again.\r\n\r\nIt's funny that everyone at the salon looks the same and they give the same hair cuts. I waited for a friend outside of the salon one day and I was early so I was able to see five people leave the salon. They all had the same look....short and punked-out/standing straight up in the back and top...short sides...lots of thinning shear butchery. My friend loves the place 'cause she likes a punked-out hot mess on her head that she feels is eclectic. If you're over thirty, I wouldn't recommend this place. \r\n\r\nAnd as a hairstylist years ago, I know a little something about hair styling. These individuals don't have their foundational cutting skills down solid. Call me old fashioned, but some things will never change with hair styling and the foundational cut is one of them. These stylists seem to be focusing on trying to do advanced cutting techniques that are popular today, but they don't have the basic skills practiced enough. And you know what happens when your foundation is weak...the hairstyle collapses. \r\n\r\nI will never go back.

Not Recommended. I had a similar experience to the person whose hair looked black. My hair also looked black. The hairdresser obviously doesn't have enough experience to be using permanent color without a big warning that it will be an extensive process to reverse the color. I had 2 different salons say the color wasn't right for my skin tone. The cut wasn't so great either. She used thinning shears on the ends of my hair. This may work on some hair, not on mine. The good stylists at this salon also tend to charge around $60 or more for a cut.

WORST SALON EVER. VERY RUDE, THEY TALK ABOUT CLIENTS BEHIND THEIR BACKS. I ACTUALLY SAW A GIRL ROLL HERE EYES WHEN SHE FOUND OUT THAT ONE OF HER REPEAT
CLIENTS SHOWED UP. THESE STYLIST THINK THEIR ROCK STARS OR SOMETHING. YOU GUYS JUST NEED TO SHUT UP AND CUT SOME HAIR. YOU'RE NOT THAT IMPORTANT! GO
GET A PHD, THEN MAYBE YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH BEING SO SNOTTY, AND SELF important.
