This place was awful. We were given a room that smelled strongly of Raid Bug Spray, the shower had mold in it and the sheets were dirty. When we asked for a different room, we were told we could have one but only if we paid a cleaning fee. We couldn't stay a second night with the smell in the room and were not about to pay extra to move so we didn't stay the second night. We paid for 2 nights in advance through livingsocial.com so we can't get our money back unfortunately, but livingsocial.com did ask us to review our stay, so we did. They send it to the owners so they know how they did. Once livingsocial.com sent our review over, we got an angry, threatening phone call from the owner. How ridiculous, I can't believe someone would run their business in this manner. Not only was the hotel awful, we were threatened, as well. I would never stay here again and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

This is one for your bucket list! Great B&B. Will's food is awesome. You might not expect fine dining in such a remote location. Cleve and Robin are delightful, and Edie (Will's wife) is a jewel.

Friendly! Warm! Accommodating! This past weekend was our third visit to Toe River Lodge and it gets better every time. Don't miss the Toe River Canopy Tour (11 zip lines and 4 sky bridges through the mountain forest).

Tippy the cat is friendly, and don't forget to ask Cleve about the brewery!

We'll be back soon!!!

The best Sunday brunch in the NC mountains. The service is great. MAKE A RESERVATION or be disappointed. Nice people with the best chef. Refreshing buffet of delightful dishes. Like home at Thanksgiving every Sunday. Open in season. Thoughful menu includes low carb items for diabetics and vegetable dishes- but all the tastiest. Price is moderate, inexpensive for the quality.

My husband and I have been to the cafe several times with friends and family. Its a place where you can go and experience the Appalachians at their best. The food is wonderful, the spices that are used are heavenly. Its a dinning experience I recommend to everyone, a true legendary taste of the Ole Time Appalachians, a place that will take you back in time. The service is exceptional family owned and operated and dedicated to being top notch, and top notch they are. The roast beef is the best, it melts in your mouth. I recommend everyone make reservation and give it a try, you wont be sorry...Its well worth the price and travel. We enjoy the scenic route too. Thank you Toe River Lodge & Cafe. Wish you were open year round.

The owners are super great, the whole family. The restaurant is beautiful. I love the atmosphere. However, the food is strange and very over priced. I am a local, we went for Mother's Day. The roast was delicious, not too crazy about the cream style corn and smoked oyster mixture. The food just isn't for us locals.

This is a hidden jewel! Everything here was wonderful, the food, the owner came by and showed us around,he is a HOOT (sorry I forgot his name),The price is very fair! The cat, yes, cat, is great! and the rooms look very clean. I must admit it is a hike from Blowing Rock, but it sure was worth it,take a dd so you can have a nice bottle of wine! It is "brown bag" so you must take your own booze! Trust me this is worth the drive!!!! YOU MUST HAVE RESERVATIONS!!

We have been eating at the lodge for nearly ten years now when we are visiting our mountain house, and it just keeps getting better. The Friday and Saturday night buffets offer an outstanding choice of entrees - the trout is incredible! The Sunday brunch is to die for. The Young family that runs the lodge and restaurant make this a personable experience - you can enter a stranger and leave feeling like family! Now that they have the winery operation, it is a great place to stop and see the wine making process in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Don't miss it, and be sure to make reservations in advance for dinner or Sunday brunch.
