This goes out to Lauren Hawkins who gave me a fabulous haircut and beard trim today. And, of course, the accompanying Aveda massage prior to any cutting was incredible. Lauren was great going over my options for a change in hair styles (she even showed me pics-so, of course, I chose the George Clooney look!) Talked about Aveda natural based products and the Aveda Mission Statement. I really enjoyed the haircut and talking to Lauren was fun. Aveda was a great place to get an excellent man's haircut at an unbelievable price. (And, guys, don't forget to tip your hard working stylist. They deserve every penny.)

If you like to gamble and you are really desperate to save a few bucks, then go here, otherwise stick with real licensed professionals, because you will have to sign a waiver when you go in that you will not sue the school or students for any damages or injury. I recently got highlights and requested twice as many highlights as low lights and instead I got twice as many low lights as highlights making my hair really dark. I did not have another 3 hours to get a redo so I had to live with it. On another occasion, when I got a haircut only, I requested rounded layers and instead got something totally different.

I had a great experience at this place! Cydney Comer did my hair and I was going in getting a lot chopped off...we're talking like 6-7 inches from a long wavy hairstyle to a very short bob. I expected someone new to the industry to be slightly nervous..but she wasn't. She seemed excited, confident and couldn't wait to do it. This made me feel great. I hope to see her a few more times before I move from this city. If you want someone with a great personality and clearly a passion for this industry ask for her. The entire staff at this place seem wonderful.

It will take longer than a usual salon but that's to be expected. Everything is checked over by a teacher and they sign off on it. So, don't go here expecting to get in and out quickly. The last thing you want to do is rush a stylist trying to learn something!

I will be back.

terrible....awful...results were terrible and service is terrible. Exercise extreme caution before entrusting your hair to Aveda Charlotte. The students are very inexperienced and you would be better off letting a cranky toddler handle your hair care!

I didn't have to wait at all. I am Black and was there for a relaxer. A White young lady did my relaxer and I have to say it was one of the best if not the best touch up I've ever had. I have a lot of thick hair and I could tell she was very apprehensive. But with the help of her instructor, it came out great. I can't remember her name...I started witha K.

Not only has my hair been cut way too short but also the wait was crazy. There was no one there that seemed to have any professionalism. This is a pretty bad company. I wouldn't waste my money.

Just went to the Aveda Institute of Charlotte today for foil highlights and LOVED it! The student, Ashley, and her instructor, Abby, were fantastic. They both communicated their ideas to me really well and completely explained what would be done BEFORE my hair was ever touched. My hair came out almost identical to the picture I brought in and I couldn't be happier. Only con is I was there for about 3.5 hours, but overall it was worth the wait- I mean I can't really beat paying a 3rd of what I usually would for highlights. I already have an appointment to go back and will be trying out their facial. Don't hesitate to try Aveda, you'll be surprised:)

The worst, absolutely worst experience I have ever had. I realize students would be doing my hair. I have long natural curly hair. The student had no clue how to even comb it out to start my cut. He got the instructors for everything. Actually the instructor did more than he did. I wanted no length off and lost about 5 inches. I will never go back or recommend Aveda Institute to anyone. Never, it was the worst experience of my life.

After hearing about Aveda Institute from a friend I thought I would try it. OMG horrible horrible. Some people are simply just not cut out to be stylists. When I left there my hair was chemically burned from the highlights. Chemically burned! Aveda should never let students cut or even let thier students near chemcials. I am sooooo stressed on my hair right now. It is cheap yes but you get what you pay for. I am wearing a hat for the next month till my hair grows out. Horrible horrible! I would highly NOT recommend. Pay the extra and go to professionals!

I got a very good pedicure a couple of months ago- they use good brands of polish and didn't see any bottles that looked like they'd been sitting on the shelf for a year. I got the more intense pedi and it included a leg and foot exfoliant and leg massage. I believe that it was under $20- what a steal! No massage chairs, but everything else was great. Well ventilated and private nail area from rest of school. Recommended.

I normally go to Carmen & Carmen and pay $40 for a simple layered cut plus tip. A friend recommended the Aveda Institute to me, and her hair looked great, so I thought I'd try it out. I made an appointment for a month later since they were so booked. I found out that they sometimes take walk-ins if they have capacity. When I arrived, I was surprised at what a beautiful, upscale facility it is. I figured it would be kinda dumpy or school looking for the prices there. All these people were lined up and each stylist came to get the clients.

When mine came to get me, she asked me what I wanted done. She brought the instructor over and the instructor advised her on how to do my cut in order to get the results I wanted. I also decided to do partial highlights. They did a great job on my cut and highlights, and my bill was only $27! I think the cut was $12, and the highlights were $15. The only negative was that it took much longer than my regular appointments because the student is not as fast and neither do you want them to be, so they don't mess up!

I went back later to get my eyebrows waxed for $8, and that went well, too. After your appointment is over, the instructor comes over to ask you questions so that they can grade the student. I highly recommend going!

PROS: Inexpensive for high quality cut, great service, upscale environment
CONS: Instructor may have to advise a lot, can be time consuming

This place is nice and comfortable. The people are friendly and do an excellent job on styles. My family loves to go here. I would recommend this hairstylist to anyone.

We just moved here and I desperately needed a haircut and highlights done to my hair. I did not want to pay the expensive price at an unknown salon so I looked into hair institutes. Aveda is known for their wonderful products so when I heard there was an institute; I had to check them out. Upon calling, I was told that there was a waiting list and that's it's generally a good idea to call a month in advance. Since I waited this long, I decided to be added to the schedule for next month. On the scheduled day, I went in for my haircut and highlights. The hairdressers are all students in their final phase of schooling, but they are all highly trained and up-to-date on the latest colors and styles; their teachers even have to check on their progress and results! The process took a bit longer, but the price was worth the wait! My haircut was only $10 and my full set of highlights was $35. You can't beat this deal and I looked and felt great! With the money I saved from going to an expensive salon, I was able to splurge on their wonderful products. There are several locations located in the United States and their website lists them all. Thank you, Aveda Institute of Charlotte!

This is no barber school. The staff is great and students are well trained and supervised. My stylist, Jessica Nielson has cut my hair twice and it turned out great. I even took my son there who is typically hard to please and he was really happy. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed.

i've been going to the Aveda Institute for services for about a year now. i absoulutely love spa services, but in this economy i've had to cut back. i've found the perfect solution - Aveda Institute! I can get facials for only $20!!!! I also get my hair done there. I always get compliments on my highlights, the only negative side is that it takes a bit longer for the students to do the hair services, because they are, well, students!!
definitely worth much more than they charge for the services. i'll be a devoted customer for years to come!

I can't believe I never tried this place until recently. I'd been paying over twice as much for my cut and highlights. They do an excellent job here for an affordable price, which is hard to find in Charlotte. Will definitely be back to try out their other services as well.

Per a friends recommendation, I got a facial at Aveda Institute recently. Wow!!! I had no idea that so much was involved...i.e. foot massage, head massage, hot towels, aromas...and all for just $40. I have had facials done at many high end salons/spas and now I've come to the realization that I was paying too much for too little.

Thanks Ms. Phyllis at Aveda. You Rock!
