I absolutely love this hospital. My babies were born here and I've had 3 surgeries here as well. Everyone, I mean everyone, is soooo nice. The hospital is well kept, clean, neat and well organized. I love the staff. They have an awesome Maternity unit and you are able to deliver in the same room you are staying in. They then go the extra mile and provide a special dinner for you and your spouse to celebrate. I love this place!!

PROS: Excellent Maternity Unit

Living in southern Virginia, I'm halfway between two hospitals - Memorial of Martinsville, which is probably most popular around here, and Morehead, which is only slightly farther away. Having experienced both, when it was time for my daughter to be born - and then for my gallbladder to be removed only a month later - I insisted on being admitted at Morehead.

The facilities at Morehead are surprisingly modern for an older hospital located in a small town, and the Birthing Center is especially lovely - more like a hotel than a hospital, with complete rooming-in of mother and child. The hospital's Hospice center is only slightly less lavish, with many home-y touches to make families feel more at home in their surroundings.

The staff at Morehead is extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, easing the jitters that necessarily accompany any hospital stay and answering questions fully and honestly.

Like most Emergency Rooms, Morehead's has a tendency toward crowding and long waits, although they prioritize based on the severity of a patient's symptoms. When I visited at 9 p.m. on a weeknight with a toddler with a temperature of 103, I waited approximately an hour and a half to see a doctor - a long time, to be sure, but we were seen before some patients that had arrived ahead of us.

Morehead offers a variety of health care classes, including parenting, nutrition and preventive measures. Most of these are free of charge, or available for only a nominal fee.

I definitely appreciate the services that Morehead has to offer and, while I can't say I look forward to being hospitalized again, I will definitely go there for the births of future children and for any unforeseen medical issues.

PROS: Nice facilities; modern; friendly, expert staff; classes available.
CONS: Wait time in ER.
