We had some good meals here several times. They have plenty of bar food and so entree specials. But the best meal of the year is the St. Patrick's Day buffet. The corn beef is lean and practically no fat on it. It's going to get crowded so you better get there early.

We love going to Pipers. The food is always good, the staff is friendly and welcoming. It's a great place to take the kids and also for the adults to meet and hang out for a bit. One of our favorite times is on St. Patty's - they have a very tasty buffet.

Because we have always had good food and a cozy place to chat with friends, we once again returned to Piper's. Guess we had never been on Sunday night. The DJ/Q&A guy was so annoying and loud, making conversation almost impossible. Looking around, it seemed almost no patrons were enjoying the venue. Hopefully Piper's will rethink this one or we will have to keep them on our "never on a Sunday" list. Too bad as food has always been good and atmosphere relaxed, with great service.

We ate dinner here once - after being told that it was a great place to eat. We weren't all that impressed. The food was so-so. The prices were a bit much for the establishment and the place was so smokey that we could hardly breathe.

I don't think that we'll return. Unless we go during summer time and can eat outside.

used to like Pipers, tried to tell them why today's experience was bad, manager yelled at me. Just beware, if you don't like anything, keep your mouth shut.

Food is always good here. The staff are always friendly, never rude. It feels comfy like my living room when I'm here. The prime rib on Thursday nights is heaven. Love the porch. This place rocks.

Been in several times, staff seems busy but nice. Looks like the kind of place that if you know a few people in there, it could be a blast. I'd give the food an 7.5 and mixed drinks an 8.

Last time I came the onion soup which I've always thought was better than Coquette's was bad. The pizza we ordered had uncooked peppers and onions on it. The prime rib night is amazing.

We always hear people talking about how great this place is, but for one reason or another never made it there until the other night.

It was fabulous, great food, HUGE portions extremely reasonable prices. I'm from up North so this is the kind of restaurant that is in every neighborhood. I love it here in the South but there are not enough of these types of resatiurants in Raleigh. I definately got a Cheers kind of vibe from the place, chain restaurants are fine but if you are from up North you know exactly what I mean.

The shrimp and grits were outstanding, our waitress told us the desserts were made from scratch everyday, so of course I had to try one..OMG choc cake!

The only problem was that the we picked a night that was really busy so we had to sit outside on the porch. The sun was in my eyes the whole time and someone ran in the restaurant and left their car running while we were eating. After they left and the sun went down we had no complaints!

This place was miserable the time we visited. My Reuben sandwich was dry and tough, and the fries were undercooked and soggy. I could still taste the freeze in them. They didn't even taste fresh. We had asked for salad at a $1.50 extra charge and accepted that. The waitress came back to the table and said "the owner says you have to pay $4.50 if you want a Ceasar salad." She should have known this in the first place. When I questioned why, she said "I just work here, I don't make the rules...." Just not a good experience for us. Maybe it was the one occasion, but we won't go back. Once is all you need with so many other choices in Raleigh.

The food was really good ...even though our waiter got my order wrong after asking me three times.. servers standing around a lot which doesn't bother me really unless you're seated right next to their server station.

So basically, bad service..wrong food..took forever to get waiters attention but the food made up for it :)

We went for dinner and then to stick around for some drinks with friends afterwards..it took forever to get our food which was a few simple items..then the server ploped out food down and never came back until we went to the bar to get her and get our check. The staff could care less aout service.
The bar had one or two people..i did not want to have a drink with. We left and will not be back. Not the "nice" little place like i had expected.

My husband and I ate there tonight. He ordered fish and chips for fourteen dollars and I ordered the crabcake sandwich that came out cold in the middle. I told the waitress and she took it back. I waited fifteen minutes for another sandwich while my husband finished his greasy, tasteless fish. For fourteen dollars. When my crabcake sandwich finally arrived, I asked her to take it back because my husband had finished eating and we came here to have dinner together. Not separately. I asked for the manager. After explaining the situation, she got an 'attitude' and said that now they'd have to throw two meals away. I responded that if they had done it correctly the FIRST time that would not be a problem. She really irritated me when she tried to give me a guilt trip for not being happy with my cold, crabcake sandwich. She excused herself and soon the chubby part owner came over. He had an attitude immediately and when I tried to explain the problem, he just kept talking over me. He was rude, he had an arrogant attitude and kept saying how much money he makes at his restaurant and couldn't understand why I was not happy with the meal. I tried to explain that when my husband and I go out to dinner we like to dine TOGETHER and I certainly expected a crabcake sandwich to be at least WARM on the inside. Again, he didn't listen, started talking over me and that's when I left the table. The food was tremendously overpriced, the staff certainly not gracious and we would never go back. Go to Winston's. A much better atmosphere where you'll at least feel like you're having a nice evening out. Go to Duffy's. Both places serve tremendously better food and you don't get an 'attitude' if you might have a problem with your food. This place definitely caters to a lower class of people, who probably think an evening out at a kind of run-down bar, with overpriced, greasy food is a fun night out. The owner definitely fits that category. Complete with dirty shorts, messy shirt and just an unkempt appearance. One has to wonder what the kitchen looks like. Scary, I would guess. Don't go.

I was at the Pipers Tavern a few Saturdays ago around 10ish, I walked in and it was a little quite for a bar but I was quickly noticed and asked if I could be seated. Once I was sat I was greeted by a very talkative young lady. She was able to make an excellent recommendation from the menu even though they were only serving appetizers and pizzas. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised the service we received and the food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone but would fore warn those that do not smoke to be aware, as My husband and I smoke and were sitting in the smoking section it didn't bother us, but the restaurant is in an older building and can get fairly smoky. The food was great along with the service I received. Go and enjoy!

We had a group of five go to this place around 10:30pm on a Saturday night. One friend got there before the rest of us and went in to get us a table. He told the hostess that a group of our size would be coming in a few minutes, to which she replied, "so." Anyway, he grabbed a table, and the rest of the group got there about ten minutes later. While he waited, the server NEVER came over, so he never received a menu, a drink, or any type of service. When we finally got there we waited another ten minutes until the server finally came over. She was apologetic, but apparently, the staff does not pay attention to their customers if a group can sit that long before being noticed! So, we placed our orders...only appetizers are available at that time of the evening. The wings and potato skins were excellent and you get your money's worth, however, our drink order was messed up a few times. Again, the staff was simply occupied with issues other than what they're being paid to do. Drink prices were affordable, food was good, but the service was poor and the staff certainly wasn't welcoming. I'm a great fan of the pub atmosphere, but I would not recommend this place to anyone, sadly.

I love the coziness of this place. The outdoor seating is great, even though all the tables are all together it still has a private feel to it, that is always nice. The staff are very nice and friendly. Its a very fun and relaxing place to go. We went on a saturday night and were seated promptly and our service was very fast, we were very pleased with that.

The breakfast is the best I have ever had on Sunday. Fried chicken, sausage ,grits, gravy, eggs fresh cut ham, very excellent.
They also have a few attractive women working there!
I've only been there for the Sunday Brunch so that is the limit of my review, and it was great stuff.

I've been a regular at Piper's for 3 years or so now and have developed friendships with many other regulars there as well as gotten to know the owners and staff both inside and outside of the businness. This place and these people have been one of the few places that make me feel like I'm at home since I moved to Raleigh in 2004.

I eat at Piper's probably 4 times a week at least for lunch or dinner and have had some entrees that were out of this world and some that were just okay. Regardless of what I order one thing always remains consistant...I can walk into that place and see a number of familiar faces and I always leave feeling like my businness is appreciated. I will highly reccomend this restaurant and bar to anyone looking to find a neighborhood place to go to. There's plenty of entertainment going on too if you're like me and would rather stick to north raleigh than go downtown to see a band or something.

And for the record, all three of the owners (not to mention half the staff....including the tattooed manager...) are all from north of Massachusetts, so the guy in the last post was way off on that one.

anyone from NY or NJ keep away until they fire the manager who is a "north" hater. I over heard her say things about us that make me angry, shes the class-less one with the tattoo. Had a garbage pizza I do mean garbage, if you must eat the shrimp appetizer very good . most food is fair to ok. great bartenders ,owner is cool but blind to whats going on. Could be the best joint around if he got rid of the pimple on the bars face, I mean tattoo.

I live very close to Pipers and used to go all the time when it was Manchesters. (anyone remember that?). It's hard to park and you have to inhale as you pull into a tight spot. My friends won't go because it's too smoky, that, and there's no beer on tap (what is THAT!). Food is good... love the meatloaf and vodka pasta. Never had a bad waiter or waitress, but the owner (the heavy one) was rude to me once when I tried to cater. They cater, but he acted like he was doing me a favor, and he was real snobby. There are two owners, and the thin one is very nice. I don't go too much anymore only because my spouse can't tolerate the smoke. And everyone sweats in the summer because they don't fix their AC; the staff confessed to us that they die with the heat (87 degrees one night, no lie), but the owner (the fat one) won't spend the money because he says they draw a crowd. So customers, COMPLAIN. Let them know you're uncomfortable. Apparently, the owner cares more about $$$ than his staff's and customer's comfort. Great Sunday brunch, tho.

Piper's Tavern is always the perfect place to eat when you can't decide where to eat in Raleigh. The food and service are consistently excellent. The menu has enough delicious offerings to allow you to eat there frequently. The pizza and sandwiches are the best in town, and the Shrimp & Grits rival the best from Morehead City, Charleston, or Savannah. Even though it is a tavern, non-drinkers and parents with children are able to dine without the usual intrusion from the bar area.

We LOVE Piper's Tavern! Everything we have ever tried on the menu has been so tasty --- we love their Philly Steak & Cheese sandwiches ... the crabcakes are fabulous ... meatloaf is outstanding ... Penne Pomodoro is delicious ... and their Chicken Parmesan is superb. And we always see the pizza when we're there, and it looks great too ... but we all love what we normally order so much, that we've yet to try the pizza! The service is quick, waitstaff is friendly ... parking always is just a little tricky at dinnertime, but we never fail to find a spot, and it's worth looping around the building a couple times to park! Two thumbs up for Piper's Tavern ... if you haven't tried it, try it tonight!!!!

The service is quick, waitstaff is friendly ... parking always is just a little tricky at dinnertime, but we never fail to find a spot, and it's worth looping around the building a couple times to park! Two thumbs up for Piper's Tavern ... if you haven't tried it, try it tonight!!!!

Piper's is our favorite local "Cheers" type bar/restaurant to go to unwind. Especially this time of year, the outside seating is wonderful. It's not snooty, and the people are very friendly. The food is awesome too. From the thick, savory bleu cheese dressing, with huge hunks of bleu cheese, try it on the house salad. They have the best wings I've had since moving here from Phoenix. Also, their pizza is thin crusted and delicious, especially their bacon cheeseburger pizza. They have a nice wine selection, and I've found their recommended "monthly" wines superb!

Went to check out this tavern from the decent reviews from others. We showed up and were seated, and instantly started sweating as the air conditioning was either broken, or set at 85 degrees. The first thing we asked for once the waiter arrived was a beer list, which they DID NOT HAVE. This set off a flag in my mind, thinking "What kind of tavern doesn't have a beer list?" Well, it turns out, not only do they not have a beer list, but they only serve bottled beer. I'm sorry, but if you call yourself a "Tavern," you should have a much larger beer variety than the deli down the street.

In addition, the service was poor, and the food was just OK. We will never set food in this place again.

My husband and I frequent this local restaurant often. It is very convenient to North Raleigh and on the way home in most cases. We love everything on the menu, never had a bad choice. The Breakfast Brunch is awesome on the weekends and quite a selction and value. The Philly Cheese Steak is one of the best around. They also have great soups, made fresh daily!
