I went there Saturday night May 29th and will never again. The staff was rude to the point of being hostile. Two couples - the ladies went back to get a booth, the men in line to order. While waiting my friend buys a beer and carries it back to his wife. When back in line he tells me he had to furnish his ID plus sign a statement to get beer stating his age, etc. As we were ordering the counter lady says to my friend in a very accusatory manner that 'he had already ordered a beer'. He replied that 'yes he had and it was for his wife while we waited to order'. He was then accused of using his ID to order a beer for someone else - he went back and brought his wife to the counter (he is 71, his wfe, 65). She is then asked to show her ID and she replies she doesn't have it with her. With that we are told to leave - all of us. This all happen in a shorter period of time than it takes me to write these comments. I went back to the table, told my wife we were leaving and we did. I don't know who these people think they are but I don't care how good their food is supposed to be. I'l never go near to the place again.

Keaton's is more of a rural step back in time experience than a restaurant. And the name "barbecue" is talking about how they cook the chicken, not that it is pig meat. People travel for an hour or more to get Keaton's secret recipe chicken. It is only open certain hours and certain days so call in advance - if they have a phone. For your visit, you drive to the middle of nowhere (only about 4 miles off I-40 though). Pull into the gravel yard and choose a place to park - probably under a big oak tree. When you go in through the wooden screened door, get in line along the counter. You can watch the chickens getting cooked in the kitchen in back. You buy the chicken by the whole or half bird. Sides are pretty limited. Maybe there's potato salad, fries or slaw but that's about it. The drinks are in a glass-fronted refrigerator close to the door. After you get your ticket, you pay and find a seat. You may have to bring cash. I can't remember. The tables and chairs or booths don't look like they've been updated in a generation or two, just like the rest of the place. The chicken is well worth the wait - a spicy sauce and open flame are the best ingredients!
