We had our first dinner at Paul's last night, after being told that Carabba's had an hour wait. Our son attended a party there and raved about the food. All 4 of us loved our food! Bread was delicious, ceasar salad was perfect and our meals were hot and fresh! Being from NY, we are particular about out Italian food and Paul's will be where we go from now on!

called for directions and the female hostess told us that they not want to do it. rather do something else. the service was horrible.had to ask the hostess to get waited on not busy. rush to get rid of us to make cell telephone calls. wait person told us not want to write down order it is not a job requirement. did it anyway. while waiting on us the employee walked away and we had to ask the person to come back and finish job.the same employee tried to start fights, interrupt, would answer cell telephone calls while waiting on us,brought wrong order and not want to correct it and did it anyway, not volunteer to come back to the table to see if we needed something, yelled at customers, not volunteer to give food, drink, bill, silverware.the food was not fully cooked when came to table and the employee told us nothing is wrong.gave bill and then ran away.we asked employee to come to the table to discuss the bad service and compensation for rude service continually.

I think bread is a good up-front judge of the quality of a restaurant. Especially for an italian restaurant..when the bread arrives with your mean and it's 2 days old and stale that usually is a sign of the overall lack of quality.

Our two dishes were mediocre...bland, rather boring. Something we could have put together at home ourselves but with a heck of a lot more flavor. Maybe I was spoiled all those years living outside NYC but really this is just run of the mill italian food. The prices however, especially for Winston, would lead you to think the quality would be much higher. Overall a disappointment after reading some previous reviews.

Pros: not any

Cons: employees

I am very picky about good food. And every year I ask to have my birthday dinner here, as well as any celebration in our lives. Make reservations- seating is limited and goes quickly! But take time to enjoy the fine wines and exquisite dishes- the sauces are delicious and the veal is delectable. A great find hidden right off the road- you will definitely be back!

The ""1-Star or Poor Review"" indicated on this website is a duplicate of a bad review of another restaurant review (4 Way Restaurant on ""winstonsalem.ohsohandy"" webstie), which is FALSE, as well. Both of these restaurants are fine, reputable restaurants in Winston-Salem, and both have great service and wonderful food. Someone apparently has too much time of their hands. Probably more of this trash on other reviewer websites...

This is delicious authentic Italian food. And the service is very good. However, Paul, the owner, is obviously not always in the best mood. He is only pleasant to ""certain customers.""

Pros: great food and service

Cons: cocktail glasses are too small

We've been eating at Paul's for well over 10 years now and have found it to be consistently superb - NEVER had a bad (or even fair) meal there. By now, we've sampled everything on the meno - all good. I've stopped trying eggplant anywhere else - or anyone else's red Italian sauces. His cognac sauce is to die for - and try the pumpkin gnocchi - served in a pumpkin, no less! We can't go often enough!

I was not all that excited when I pulled up to the little store located in a sort of strip mall. But once I got inside, I knew that I was in for a treat. I was greeted by Paul, speaking mostly Italian, and was quickly seated. The waitress was extremely helpful in recommending the lobster ravioli, which was one of the best Italian dishes I have ever had. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food. Not much more than the Olive Garden, yet multiple times better food.

Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Authentic

The service here was excellent and very detailed. The food here is good. While it is higher in price, it certainly is a nice place for a special occasion.

Pros: Intimate setting

Cons: A bit pricey

.

The appetizers (mussels in tomato sauce, brochette + mozzarella) were mediocre, salads (Caesar) and entrees (grilled halibut, seafood ravioli) were adequate, and desserts (something chocolate with Cool Whip(!), tiramisu cake) were mediocre-minus. At the price of $105 (for 2 people), this was the most seriously overpriced meal I've had in many, many years.

Don't be fooled by the minimalist exterior or the location -- Paul's is by far the best Italian restaurant in the Triad and has possibly the finest Italian food that I've ever tasted (and I've travelled at length through Italy). The original sauces at Paul's are absolutely phenomenal, making even seemingly simple pasta dishes explode with flavor. Try the Capellini Papalini or Puttanesca: to die for. The veal selections are also beyond compare, and I could go on and on. Excellent restaurant, attentive service, truly fine atmosphere, and a hint of romance.
