Thanks so much for making an AWESOME cake for my goddaughter's birthday. I have never had a cake that good. You guys also make great treats for some NCSU football games. Highly recommend.

I am surprised anyone would have anything bad to say about Edible Art! I have been a customer for years and recently tasted several slices of cake. This bakery's cake recipe is SECOND TO NONE. They are known for a special pound cake recipe that is extremely moist, dense, and flavorful. You won't find this great taste or presentation at any other bakery. Trust me, I've tried. Give them a try. You can call ahead and order a cake or have a tasty treat in the dining area.

I need to share an experience that I had today with Melinda at the Edible Arts location on Hillsborough St. in Raleigh. I called and asked to speak with the owner. Immediately, the tone of voice of the person who answered the phone changed from slightly friendly to rude and asked who's calling and what is this in reference to? I said that I was a colleague of the owner (I screwed up his name and said Brent Reynolds; its actually Bobby; sorry Bobby its been a while) and indicated that I needed to speak with him. I informed Melinda that I worked with him during the years that I was involved with the March Of Dimes annual charity events and that I had done some business with him in the past and that I wanted to bring him some more. Instead of correcting me about the previous owner's name, telling me that there was a new owner and moving on to business, Melinda proceeded to interrogate me as if I was somehow lying about knowing the owner at all, "and when was the last time you spoke with him?" "I've worked here for thirty years and there's no Brent Reynolds here; Mechille is the owner and she's on here way out to deliver an order, you'll have to call back." At the end of all this I was exhausted and just hung up.

I did'nt realize that Bobby Reynolds had sold Edible Arts, but I'm sure he would be beside himself to learn about this type of poor customer service. Sound business relationships, friendly service and excellent quality are the elements that built the name that Edible Arts used to be known for while Bobby was at the helm. Melinda could have simply corrected me about the ownership and moved on to making a sale on the two cakes that I had planned to order from them today for two clients of my catering firm. It sounds as if some of the employees of the new Edible Arts feels that they are so busy and so great that they don't need to be considerate of every customer that calls on them. Maybe they think they don't have any competitors that would be more than willing to take on the orders of a catering firm like mine. Well, hopefully all is well with Bobby Reynolds, I'd love to know what he thinks about this.

I have always found that edible art hits the spot...sumptuous and flavorful and the perfect birthday splurge for family and friends. Try a sampler to pick the flavor that's right for you....Can't wait for the next birthday so I can save up my butter and sugar calories for and Edible Art Treat!

I purchased a birthday cake this past week & as pretty and pricey as it was, I wished I would have asked to taste the cake first. We had vanilla with chocolate icing, it was very, very dense (heavy!) and tasted like...nothing, it was truly flavorless. It was almost doughy like, as if it wasn't cooked long enough as well. Next time I'll use Nantucket Cafe, as their desserts not only look beautiful, but are scrumptious too.

I don't usually write reviews, but I wanted to share my experience with Edible Art. Yes , I agree the cakes are pricey, but the cake they created for me was my special gift to my Daughter. She attended Peace College and I live out of state. Via phone, I contacted Edible Art based on my Daughter's recommendation. I told them what I wanted and they designed an absolutely Beautiful Butterfly cake. I would have loved to have seen her face when her (Peace) family gave her the cake. She sent me pictures and the cake was almost as Beautiful as my daughter. I call my Daughter my butterfly and the cake was surrounded by Beautiful butterflies in a variety of colors....The people were a pleasure to deal with. Yes again the cake was pricey, but it turned out to be priceless!

I ordered a graduation cake for my son. Price was no object, BUT it is pricey. The cake was good. We were using this cake to test run their wedding cake. The thing is that we asked for black and white and gray . Simple, right? No. They added colors. They said that it was what we asked for, but it was underlined and starred *Black, Gray, White ONLY. It looked a bit childish. I had no time to get it fixed. And the fondant looked like it was plastered on like bad dry wall. Thank goodness the taste was excellent. And the wrong stuff was written on it. I had to wait for them to fix it, which they did gladly. The people were very nice and pleasant to work with. They just didn't follow directions well.

I needed a cake for my baby shower. I explained the design that I wanted, and showed a few examples from pictures. The cake turned out wonderful! I was so pleased, and everyone at the party was delighted with how the cake looked and how delicious it was. The cake was a hit, and was worth every penny. Thank you Edible Art!

I was really surprised to read negative reviews of Edible Art. I've been going there for years, and have always had a great experience. Everyone I know loves their cakes, both for the way they taste and for how beautiful they are. Just like week I got a birthday cake there for a friend. I received good customer service on the phone, and in person. When I went in to order it, i was offered samples of all the cakes they bake--AMAZING. And when I picked up the cake, there were no problems at all and it was absolutely beautiful. They even offered to carry it to the car for me. This is a great bakery with amazing cakes and nice people.

Let me start by saying I don't expect everyone to know why Edible Art's prices are high. If you're not a baker/ cake decorator you probably don't realize all of things involved when making a cake.

Have you ever tried making a cake from scratch at home? First of all the ingredients are really expensive. With gas prices rising, so do groceries, and all of Edible Art's cakes are made from scratch with *real* butter. Butter is expensive, as are eggs, milk, cream and sugar. Sure their prices would be less if they used a cake mix but they wouldn't be quality. Why do you think, their cakes taste so good? Because a baker made it from scratch, not the Pillsbury Dough Boy or Betty Crocker. If you don't care about quality, then save $20 bucks and go to a bakery that utilizes short-cuts and uses a cake mix. I can assure you that around 90% of all the bakeries in the Triangle does.

Furthermore, some of you need to think about the work involved in decorating and dressing your cake. Go to Michael's or any party supply and price cardboard pads, cake boards, cake tips and pastry bags. The stuff isn't cheap.

Also when you buy a cake at Edible Art, you're paying for an *artist* to decorate your cake. Artists, just like everyone else, needs to earn a decent living and most art isn't free. The more specific you are, the more your cake is going to cost.

Next time you think Edible Art's prices are ridiculous, try making one for yourself from scratch and let us know how much it cost and the time involved. I'm sure you'll then find that Edible Art is an incredible value for what you get.

Some of you have expensive, specific tastes, but aren't willing to pay for it. Get real folks.

I work for a state hospital in a unit that serves adolescents. Several years ago, we had 2 functions for which Edible Art made cakes for our kids, completely gratis. They were beautiful and delicious and appreciated by a number of people who had never had a premium artistic cake. It was a lovely act of generosity on their part. We have not called Edible Art in recent years, and in this economy it would be hard for any small business to give out freebies, but we will not forget their generosity.

I have found Edible Art Bakery to be so wonderful. They have come under new ownership. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY DO NOT SELL A 9"CAKE SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW THAT. IT GOES FROM 8" -10". You sound as if you do not know much about cakes let me help you understand. YOU PAY FOR QUALITY. THE BAKERS BAKE YOU A FRESH CAKE AND DESIGN IT TO YOUR SPECIFICATIONS. OF COURSE THERE WILL BE A PRICE FOR CUTTING A SHAPE AND ADDING AND MIXING COLORS. i WAS ACTUALLY THERE THAT DAY WHEN YOU ORDERED THAT CAKE AND HEARD THE LADY GO OVER PRICING AS YOU DECIDED TO ADD EVERYTHING THAT YOU COULD POSSIBLY GET ON THE CAKE. SHE SPECIFIED THAT THE CAKE WOULD BE $98.71. YOU ASKED WHY ANSD SHE EXPLAINED TO YOU IN DETAIL THAT YOU WERE ADDING THINGS THAT DID NOT GO FOR A BASIC DESIGN. TI THINK YOU ACTION TO COME ON CITYSEARCH AND TRY TO DESTROY SOMEONES REPUTATION IS DISTASTEFUL. HAVING THE FACT THAT I WITNESSED YOUR BEHAVIOR AS A CUSTOMER YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT WHEN YOU DECIDE TO ACT IN THAT MANNER THAT YOU CAN GET SUED FOR DEFAMING SOMEONES BUSINESS. I WILL CONTINUE TO GO TO EDIBLE ART BAKERY. I BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE SHOULD GIVE THERE OPINION GOOD OR BAD BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT YOU SHOULD LIE BECAUSE YOU WERE EMBARRISED IN FRONT OF 6-8 PEOPLE ON A SATURDAY CAKE PICK UP. THE LADIES THERE WORK HARD AND THE CAKE IS MAGNIFICENT. THE KNEW OWNER IS WONDERFUL AND THE MAKEOVER IS TOO. I THINK ANYONE SHOULD DROP BY AND SEE AND TASTE THE CAKE FOR THEIRSELVES. THEN WRITE A FACTUAL REVIEW.

I picked a cake from their book, and asked the price of that cake as it was in the photo. The cake was pink with edible decorations on the top and a slanted cut. I was told the cake was in the mid thirty dollar range, and commented that the price sounded cheap for a nine inch cake. The woman just looked at me and did not offer any details. So I ordered the cake, and the order came to $98 for the cake as pictured.

So, thirty something for the cake, extra for colored icing, extra for the cut in the photo, extra for gum paste......the price she gave me was for a plain white 9 inch round cake, NOT the cake in the photo. I felt deceived because had she quoted me nearly $100 for a 9 inch round cake, I probably would have picked a cake elsewhere. Won't go back. It was not good value for the money.

Also: this lady above is obviously the owner, and cant even spell response properly. Just gives you an idea of what kind of a business this is. When I went in and pointed to a photo of a cake in YOUR BOOK, I expected to be quoted for THAT EXACT CAKE, not a white cake without all the additions on the photo. I was not embarassed at all, I EXPECTED to be quoted the proper pricing, and PS.... I didnt pick this cake up on a Saturday, nor did I order it on a Saturday, and it was paid for entirely on the day of order so that the party planner could pick it up for me. So I DIDNT EVEN PICK THE CAKE UP, THE PLANNER DID.

I love cake and I'm always on the look out for the best tasting cake I can find. I was thoroughly impressed with the one I got from Edible Art. Their almond cake is the best I've had and it was beautifully decorated. I will be sure to get all of my cakes from them for now on.

I ordered a groom?s cake months ago to be picked up on July 13th. I must have checked 5 times to make sure that it was understood that my fiance is a Porsche fanatic and I needed the cake to be as detailed as possible. I sent pictures of the car from all sides, if more were needed I would have gladly supplied them. When my uncle picked up the cake and brought it to the rehearsal dinner my heart sank. Had I picked it up it would have been left at the bakery. I was so disappointed in the level of detail and craftsmanship it nearly brought me to tears. Over all the cake was ?fine?, it tasted ok considering it was, I assume, pound cake. But the look and overall effect I sought to achieve ended up falling quite short. The wheels were no more than an icing ?x?, there was no car name on it, not even so much as a tiny yellow dot where the Porsche badge should have been, no turn signal lights, and the over all shape of the car fell short as well. I would describe it as ?playschool? at best. When you pay over $300 for a cake you expect excellent work.... I put my trust in the wrong hands.

So in my experience this is NOT an establishment worth your time or your money. The work is poor and the incredibly dense cake (that i can only assume was pound cake instead of chocolate cake that i ordered) was ok at best.

I have tried via phone and email to contact the owner and have not recieved a response thus far. After reading the other reviews about how rude he is I now understand the lack of response.

Should I recieve any kind of response or apology I will be sure to post again.

Pros: none

Cons: taste, presentation, detail, customer service...etc.

I am THRILLED! For the second year in a row, Edible Art has generously donated a beautiful, delicious and grand cake for our reception for Poetry Out Loud, a high school poetry recitation contest sponsored by the North Carolina Arts Council, the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Everyone who saw the cake remarked on how beautiful it was, and how perfect it was for the occasion. Everyone who tasted the cake remarked on how delicious it was. Though we hesitated to ask a second year, we knew that we wanted the best cake in the Triangle, so of course we went back to Edible Art. We so appreciate the kindness and generosity of Bobby Reynolds, Edible Arts' owner, and the brilliance of the bakery's talented bakers and decorators! Thank you, Edible Art, for making our occasion so special!

Cons: Absolutely none. This place is perfect.

I went in the other day to get desserts for a luncheon. I remember their cakes being fabulous, so i thought this was the best place. Well I was wrong...I went in there at 11:45am and ordered a sample plate, mind you all the desserts were in the cooler and ready to go! I didn't leave there till 12:15!!! There was only one person in front of me and all she ordered was a cookie and a coffee. I stood there forever and the women that worked there acted like they had a slow motion button turned on. There cookies were $2 each and they were not good at all! It's overpriced and DO NOTget the key lime pie! It's basically a light lemon cheesecake. Make your own, get Paula Dean's recipe its to die for!!!

Pros: nothing, except fot their buttercream frosting

Cons: Slow service, poor presentation, quality of food has gone down.

I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking out a cake or dessert that you want to stand out over the Holiday season. The staff is helpful and knowledgable. These sweets are too pretty to eat but you can't help it!

There was a time about five years ago you could order an Edible Art cake from the last owner before the current older gentleman now owning and you could have no worries about what to expect.
I ordered an anniversary cake top for our ten year anniversary. Just looking for a small 6 inch cake in pastel colors. First the order taker told me because we bought our wedding cake there, the anniversary topper would be no charge (we know she said this). Then when we pick it up we are not only charged a ridculously high amount of nearly $50.00 for this tiny cake, but it looks like someone was blindfolded and shot icing out from across the room.

I am too disgusted to go into too much detail to continue describing the so called decorating. There was deep, deep purple huge flowers, bright neon yelllow...orange all over the top.

HAVE YOU EVER, EVER SEEN A WEDDING CAKE MUCH LESS AN ANNIVERSARY CAKE BE DECORATED IN SUCH POOR TASTE????? My husband picked it up. If I had picked up, I would have left it.

This owner is sincerely letting the image, trust and respect once known for go away. That is a shame in my opinion. He should be ashamed to charge as much as he is and not inspect their work more closely. If they are going to charge so very much, at least make it worth while.

HERE'S SOME EXCELLENT ADVICE....FIND A WAY NOT TO HAVE TO FREEZE THE CAKES SO FAR IN ADVANCE THAT THE CAKES ARE SO ABSOLUTE DRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE HAS TO BE A WAY! GEZZZ THERE IS ENOUGH BUTTER IN THEM YOU WOULD THINK TO KEEP THEM MOIST.

Like I said the times that I've visited Edible Art my cakes were wonderful. The cookies aren't good at all, they were a bit dry and very tough.
But this is what I really wanted to say the owner is really rude, He uses language that is just not acceptable for a dog, none the less for his employees. I couldn't stay there and be as nice as his employees are. It is rediculious how he speaks and treat his employees. He doesn't even know how to pretend to like anyone. I didn't like him at all. He is a cranky old man.

I moved and found a bakery near my home. MISTAKE!! I miss Edible Art and their creativity. Always nice and will always do what you ask. Cakes taste wondeful and I am always impressed with their designs. Cost may be a little higher and the drive may be a little longer, but oh well. Edible Art is worth it and I will be ordering cakes from them again.

We've frequented here after a nice dinner out. These desserts aren't really anything special, but it IS kinda special not ordering dessert at the restaurant, but instead making a deliberate stop at this dessert shop.

I recentlly ordered a birthday cake for my husband and although it looked great, the cake was not what I ordered. I ordered a dark chocolate cake and the cake was not even close to dark chocolate. I called and spoke with the owner who was one of the rudest people I have ever spoken to. He said that is how his cakes are made and I needed to deal with it. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.

My employer often gets these cakes for employee birthdays. Myself, as well as most of my colleagues do not like these cakes as they are often very dry, and leave a bad aftertaste. When we addressed this issue with the owner of Edible Art, he was extremely rude, condescending, and told us his cakes were not dry. What happen to the customer is right? He is not receptive to customers comments. Needless to say my employer does not purchase his cakes anymore, and we are all very glad!

I have purchased several cakes from edible art. The taste of the cake is always great...however, how it is decorated is another story. Most of them have been decorated very well, but others have not. The last cake I purchased had very sloppy writing on it and the colors were not what I asked for. It should have been a simple polka dot cake, and just turned out a mess. In the end it looked okay on the table, but when you spend their prices on a cake...you expect a little more. It tasted great, however it's my last edible art cake!

Went to Edible Art with 2 co-workers to pick out a cake for a baby shower. The samples were absolutely great, I don't think I have had cake that good since. The prices, however, were a bit high. I don't think I would buy a cake from them for a birthday - seeing that the cost is too high.

I initially considered Edible Art for my wedding cake vendor. I had purchased baby shower cakes there and they always tasted great and looked fabulous. The staff has always been friendly. However, I always thought that they were a little pricey but for a special occasion - it's ok, right? Well...that depends. I don't really have any complaints about the overall quality of the cakes here -i've had some that were a little dry and some that were perfect. However, when it came to ordering my wedding cake, I wasn't pleased at all with the prices. Everything - every swirl, dot, monogram - any embellishment at all - was A LA CARTE. And in speaking with other bakers, I know that it doesn't take much more to do some of these things...Ultimately I chose another baker for my wedding bake but I would recommend giving them a try. I may even use them again for other special occasion cakes...

PROS: great presentation of cakes and designs available
CONS: certainscakes too dry; too pricey - every detail is A LA CARTE

I've had Edible Art cakes at various events the past few years (showes, birthdays, retirement, etc) and I am always impressed by their creativity and presentation. However, I was always sadly disappointed in their poundcake, it's terribly dry. As a bride I wanted to see what they offered and their price range. I was put off by trying to make an appointment for myself, my finace and my mother - they required me to pay for the tasting. This was my first cake testing and I was surprised to find this out. Upon reviewing their price list and additional charges, we decided to look elsewhere (where we could test the cake without hassle).

PROS: Creative, one-of-a-kind
CONS: Dry cake, expensive, rude staff

I went in for a cake testing for my wedding and was very excited. Their cake was hit and miss (some of it was dry). However, the part that stays with me was the lady there for the tasting. She was rude, scoffed at my ideas and choices, and made us overall feel very inadequate. She didn't like the pictures I brought with me and couldn't believe I didn't know EXACTLY what I wanted. Their cakes are expensive and no one should have to pay to put up with her attitude.

We went for a cake tasting this past weekend. The lady who assisted us made some rude comments to us. By the end I was almost in tears because she made me feel like an idiot. The cake was a little dry and the lemon flavored one was very strong. I will take my business somewhere I can get better service.

I have had several of the cakes and they are always wonderful. My only complaint is that they are SOOO expensive. It is perfect for that special occassion though, and very convenient to have so many flavors of cake to choose from.

We, at work, received an amazing cake from Edible art from one of our clients. Unique, artful, not overly sweet, just simply IMPRESSIVE. Although, those without artistic sensibilities will just not get it, no matter how much you try to explain that an expressive, artsy cake isn't supposed to look like Grandma's chocolate cake
