My husband and I were there last Thursday night. I would almost move to Franklin to eat here everyday. Extensive menu and very reasonable prices. Our waiter was a little scatter brained but very nice. We met Chef REL and I can see why some people think he is a little gruff. I think it's all a front...he is very nice. If you miss a chance to eat here when in Franklin it's your loss!

My husband and I gladly drive an hour to come here for the bread and dip they serve when you first sit down and we love their pot roast. The food is always freshly made and wonderful... It is a real treasure. enjoy

This is buy far the best restaurant in all of Franklin and the surrounding areas. I have absolutely no prblem in recommending this restaurant to everyone. Not only is the food the best around, the service is also superb. The atmosphere makes you feel like your in a French cafe somewhere off the Riviera. You definitely don't ffeel as if you are in a restaurant connected to a gas station, "Hot Spot". I most definitely say "Give it a Go", you won't be disappointed. The prices are also very reasonable.

We were looking for another restaurant in Franklin but they were closed. So we drove around until we found someplace open that wasn't a fast food chain. Alas, Caffe REL shows up - we almost didn't go in due to it's adjoinment to a gas station. WOW, are we glad we went in. Nice, comfortable seating in a very homey atmosphere. Blue Crab Bisque was a flavorful start - the 4 of us opted for sandwiches instead of a meal after the soup. What a joke that was - the sandwiches were also huge and oh so satisfying. The chef can cook with a very diverse twist - we had a Cuban sandwich, a Reuben sandwich, a pastrami sandwich and a cajun catfish. We all deemed our own as the best! Even though there were over 10 home made desserts we were too stuffed to sample and share even one amongst us. No problem - this place has found its place in the Favorites list on our GPS so we can return again and again. Don't miss it.

I live in Charlotte but have a home in Waynesville. The Chef's Table and Sweet Onion bet any restaurant in Charlotte (maybe with the exception of Zebra's). A friend suggested Caffe Rel. Although about a 45 minute drive, we took a chance. Oh my goodness was it worth the trip. Just reading the menu was entertaining. The food was divine, absolutely wonderful. Don't judge the inside by the outside appearance. It's truly a gem.

One surprising gem we found in Franklin NC, a dry town known for it's tourist gem minining, wasn't a ruby or a sapphire, but a French fusion bistro called Caffe REL, tucked into the same building as a gas station. We had to park out back since there was a fuel truck blocking the spots in front, we walked through the door to this upscale french country restaurant with 20 tables. They had a bunch of gourmet sandwiches, but the entree pages were filled with more french fusion fare.

I had braised pork loin in puff pastry with carmelized apples in a swedish ligonberry reduction. Mr Man had crab bisque and a plate of soft shelled crab over rice and other fancy stuff. Just amazing. We were in shock. How does a place like this end up tucked in the same building as a gas station convenience store? Mr Man who didn't eant to go thinking it was only a sandwich shop, kept asking that during dinner.

We got to find out. We were finishing and a guy in those funky chef clogs comes out with a drink and a smoke. I ask him if he is the chef, and he was. I promptly asked him if he was hiding from the mob or something to end up in the middle of tourist dirt country with this fancy place in a gas station. He laughed and said he for twenty something years has been a corporate chef and twelve of that working in the area in the high priced country clubs and resorts in the area then decided he wanted his own place. Three years he's been in the gas station and he said when tourist season is in full swing he's usually packed. Of that I'm glad.

So if you go to Franklin, NC, go to Caffe REL, in the Hotspot gas station. You will NOT regret it! They have an page in the Phonebook's menu section if you forget the name.

Don't be put off by Caffe Rel's location next to the Hotspot Gas Station. This is, by far, the best restuarant in town. The restuarant is Italian and offers everything from sandwiches to pasta and seafood dishes. Although you usually have to wait at lunch time, it is well worth it. The food is excellent, and unlike many Italian restuarant, their prices are very affordable. They even offer lunch portions/prices on their pasta dishes. Their sandwiches come with homemade chips, and my personal favorite is the sandwich called the John Gotti. This restuarant is definately a winner!

PROS: Great food, great prices
CONS: You'll have to wait for a table during peak times
