Since Wolf Camera went out of business Biggs is the only camera store in Charlotte. If you don't walk in waving money in their face then they don't care to help you. I have been here on numerous occasions looking at cameras, and I have spent well over a $1000 in this store and I WILL NOT give them my business anymore, and every time the customer service is the same. They won't acknowledge that you are in the store, when they do and you don't buy something because they do not have what you want they act like you are an inconvenience and a bother. I called recently asking about a particular camera and lens to see if they were in the store and a girl answered and from the start her attitude was terrible! She treated me like I was a problem and I said ok well thank you have a good day and she hung up on me. I am disgusted with this store! There is one guy there who has always been helpful, other than that everyone else is terrible!

I have only been shopping at Biggs for a short time and have found them to be very helpful and knowledgeable. They have helped me purchase and learn how to use my first DSLR. I have never encountered anyone not willing to help me out. They are also very child friendly. I have three children and they are very tolerant and even have a play area set aside for them. I wish all retail stores were as good as Biggs Camera. THANK YOU !!!

This is a response from Biggs Camera to the review that says "Stay Away". We tried our best to satisfy this customer in every way we could but she was unhappy no matter what we did. The original lens purchased was a used lens that was defective and we were not aware of it when we sold it. That was our mistake which we apologized for it. As to the employees saying "Lock the doors", it was the end of the day and we were closing. It had nothing to do with how we felt about them. When she came back we said we would be glad to refund her money if it wasn't what she wanted but it was first thing in the morning and all deposits had already been made. Retail stores don't keep a lot of cash sitting around for obvious reasons and 90% of all transactions now are on credit cards. What the customer didn't mention is that since she was upset with a check we did get the cash to give her. Then she was upset that we wouldn't sell her a new lens at an internet price and not charge her tax.
It was our mistake that we sold a defective used lens originally. We try to check used items completely when they are traded in but sometimes we miss something. We try to please every customer that comes to our store and satisfy every reasonable customer request. Regrettably only the one in a thousand that isn't happy with our store is the one that feels motivated to write a review.

*Update* Steve I understand you tried everything in your power to fix the problem but understand we are business owners also. We know how it works. The biggest problem I had is according to my wife you pretty much hid in the back and only spoke to my wife once. Instead of being the owner of your business you sent a messenger back and forth to speak with her. Again, we are not just average consumers who don't understand how things should be run. We are business owners also. We understand the markup on items and I know 110% you could have given us the price we were asking. Considering everybody else is at least $50.00 lower than you on most items I know you can lower your price. Is the photography market so bad that you can only sell things at retail? Biggs has been around for a long time. Why not contact your vendors and try to get a lower cost? My wife bought the canon 50 mm for you for right under 100 dollars. That is the exact retail on canons website. You did nothing to solve the problem. I wish so bad that you guys had fixed the problem as you are the only store in the area. Sadly you have picked up on that fact and treat people as such. Lastly, you were not there to know if your employee said sorry. Before any of the big problems happened my wife and I exited the store stating that we found it odd that all he could talk about was the fact that the store was going to have to pay to get it fixed and that he can't wait to find out who it was. The problem with the person we dealt with is that what he said should have been said to the people that work there, not the people shopping there. Talk about it at lunch or after work, not with the people who just spent close to $500 on a broken lens then questioned 3 times where the $5.00 lens cap that didn't come with the lens was at. If you think that your employees saying "Lock the Doors" in any circumstance is ok then you should read up on customer service. How does that make us feel like a wanted customer? Instead of thanks guys have a great weekend we heard "Lock the doors!!" again, something that should be stated when customers aren't around. Lastly, if my experience there would have been a good one, I would have had NO trouble writing a good review. Imagine if you would have fixed the problem and sold us the lens at the price everybody else is selling it at?! I would have been doing the same thing on every review website letting everybody know the great deals you can get at Biggs. Instead you sold us a retail $100 lens for $95 +tax. Is 95 the best you could do? Keep this in mind Steve, we came in there for the very first time and purchased a lens from you for almost 500 dollars. No problems at all and I'm sure the person we dealt with would tell you that we were very kind and nice to deal with. We are not insane customers who look for problems. We purchased a broken lens from you. We had to drive back and return it. We told him we wanted a lens with f/2.8. He gave us a lens that was f/ 2.8-4. When we came back in you guys wouldn't work with us on a lens. Then we had a problem.
Also, tell the person we dealt with to read up on canon lenses. EF-S Lenses DO NOT fit the canon 5d mkii. When we told him that he looked at us like we were crazy.

We went there last week and purchased a used lens for over $400. We drove down the road to freedom park to try it out. When we got there we found out the lens was broken. We drove back only to have the cashier tell us how mad he was because it was going to cost the company because they had to get the lens fixed. What about the customer you just sold a broken lens to? Shouldn't that get you mad? He then asked us 3 times for the lens cap which didn't come with the lens. He didn't believe us that it didn't come with it ... Yeah Biggs ... we purposely bought a broken 400 dollar lens so we could steal a 4 dollar lens cap! Give me a break!! We then purchased a used sigma lens which he told us was f/2.8. After we purchased the lens 2 employees said really loud "LOCK THE DOORS" when we got in the car we found that the lens was 2.8-4. Not what we asked for. We went to return the lens today and they told us they didn't have the cash to give us back for the lens so they wrote us a check. A Check? How does a camera store that sells cameras that are over $8000 not have 250 bucks in cash?! They then tried to fix the problem by giving us a "deal" considering they were 60 bucks over EVERYBODY online it wasn't a deal so we walked. Stay away from these guys!!! Buy online! They know they are the only camera store in the area and treat you like it.

Biggs Camera is the last ( I think) locally owned camera store. If you need more than an order taker, after the purchase assistance, knowledgeable staff, then Biggs is the place. I recently purchased a lens from their inventory of used dslr gear and after a few weeks noticed a hitch in the AF drive, I took it in fearing the worst, they sent it to Nikon and the repair was covered under a store warranty. Prices aren't as cheap as online, locals rarely are, I feel the ability to see and talk to a knowledgeable salesperson is worth the $$$ when making a large purchase.

It has been my experience that most of the staff are photographers and know the equipment some shoot different brands so if you are stuck on one brand, find a sales person that shoots with that camera

As a professional in the field for 25 years, I have found Biggs to be an incredible resource for high end digital printing and all kinds of camera equipment.
They have consistently been extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and upbeat!
Charlotte is lucky to have them!

I have been shopping at Biggs Camera for several years now. When I started I had never owned a camera and now consider myself a pretty good photographer. I feel that I owe a lot of this to the staff at Biggs. They have always been very helpful and put up with a lot of my silly questions. I highly recommend them for anything photographic. They really are the best photo store in Charlotte!

I have actually used Biggs on several occasions and unfortunately, the customer service I've received from one of their sales persons has been absolutely horrible. This gentleman has a very bad attitude when dealing with customers and acts like he doesn't even want to work there. One time, I purchased a flash bracket for my Canon that got stuck on the camera's bracket. I called on the phone to see if there was something else I should be doing to get it off and he talked to me as if I were the most ignorant person he had ever come across. I decided to end the phone conversation and come in to the store, only for him to see that the product was defective and he had to unscrew the bracket in order to get it off and replace the adapter with a Canon one. I stayed away for a year or so and came back just this past week to have to run into the same rude man. I sent a picture to the store online to be processed and noticed that on the print, there were marks that weren't visible on my screen. I simply asked if I sent the picture in again with some touch up work to the area, did he think it may come out a little less noticeable. Once again, I was treated as if I knew absolutely nothing. He made disparaging remarks about me and my photo to another gentleman that works there, to the point that all the other worker could do was laugh, which was very embarrassing to me. Shame on him once, shame on me twice! I will NEVER use Biggs Camera again. Customer service is just as important as a quality work product and if they continue to allow someone like that to work there, then they don't need nor want my business. I have elected to not mention the gentleman's name on here, however have reported him to the company's owner.

Follow up (7/11/08): No action was taking by the manager/owner which goes to show that customer satisfaction is not their priority. Not all of their sales associates are bad, but this one is and messes it up for the store, in my opinion.

When I was a student living in Charlotte, I brought in about 50 rolls of film to be developed that I took while on a trip to China with my college. I asked if I could get a discount on the developing because I was a student and had so many rolls and not only did they laugh at me (two employees) but they told me that if I couldn't afford it, I should go somewhere else. Another time I went in to get a new battery for my camera and when they asked me what kind of Canon it was, it took me a second to remember because I use several different Canons. After only a couple of seconds after being asked what kind of Canon, the man told me I should come back when I know what kind of camera I use. I strongly recommend shopping anywhere except Biggs for your photography needs.

PROS:
CONS: Rude, the employees are too good for the customers

This camera store is located near downtown Charlotte off a very busy road. They sell some cameras but have a limited stock. They have darkroom items as well as used equipment. I have not used their developing so I can not comment on that. Overall the store is small and feels very unorganized and a little cluttered.

PROS: Nice staff

I am an avid amateur photographer and do not like to get my pictures processed a chains, where some machine processes pictures in bulk.

Biggs listens to individual requests, and seems to bring the best out in my picutres. They are a little pricier, but it is well worth it in my opinion.
