The three of us arrived at the English Tea Room around 12:40 PM on Saturday. We did not have a reservation but dropped in just to check the place out. There were only 2 small groups ahead of us so we decided to wait in line. After about 10 minutes finally a hostess came and asked us if we had a reservation. After we answered no, she said she would be right back. She came back in a few minutes and said that we were in luck because they had room for us. She said they were cleaning off a table for 3 right away. We waited about 10 more minutes and she came to take us to our table. We sat at a table in the doorway to the kitchen and bathrooms. It was okay. We waited about 5 more minutes and a young girl came to take our drink orders. The drinks came in a few minutes with a cute little tea pot. The waitress left and came back in a few more minutes to take our order. I asked if the sandwiches came with a choice of sides. She said no. I said alright we will just have a chicken salad sandwich, a egg salad sandwich and a greek salad. After a few more minutes she came back and asked what sides we wanted with our meals. I said I just asked you about the sides and you said there were no sides. She said I didn't understand your question. We ordered our sides and breads. After about 15 minutes our stale skimpy sandwiches came out. Very thick stale break with a very thin spread of egg salad and chicken salad. The greek salad had no black olives and very little chicken and was mostly just greens. The fruit sides came out with the food, but the breads did not come. After about 20 minutes of waiting to have an empty glass filled I hit my glass on the table as another waiter walked by. He looked but did not say anything. When our waitress came back I asked her for more water and she said she was sorry that she didn't notice. She took my glass and stayed gone for about 5 minutes and came back without my glass. UGH!!!! I finally lost it and told her that the dry bread was choking me and that is was a horrible experience so far and getting worse by the minute. She said she was sorry again and that she had only been there for 5 days. I told her that her manager should help her and that was no excuse for our service. She brought my water back and was crying, we stil had no bread. She finally came out and asked if we wanted our muffins to go. Ya think!! The manager came out and rudely greeted my friend across the table and took our money. She purposely ignored me. How this place is staying in business is a mystery to me. I would not recommend it to anyone unless you want to waste 2 hours to eat a dry sandwich and have your ears ringing from all of the noise. Maybe if you love abuse, this is the place to go.

It's our favorite spot in Wake Forest to sit and enjoy company. Great selection of teas. Try the white pomegranate and the ginger peach!

March 3, 2010 three friends and I had tea time at this establishment.
We were promptly seated and we made our tea selection immediately. Excellent tea menu!!! Blake, our server, was so polite and accommodating. He went out of his way to please us. I requested that the cups that were at our seating be removed. They were not teacups but cappuccino type cups. Coffee cups were our replacement. REAL CHINA TEACUPS PLEASE!!!!!!!
The food was good, especially the scones. There were five different scones to choose from. Food presentation was appealing to the eyes. The owner came by our table and introduced herself. She made sure were pleased with our tea time. Overall, we had a wonderful tea experience.

We visited with out of town relatives and my 3 month old grand baby 2 years ago. At that visit the woman who is the manager was very brisk and not friendly when we came in to be seated. We had a hard time getting waited on and they sat peole right next to us bumping our elbows before we were done. After paying, I explained that I wanted to pass on some positive comments to her. She was then screaming at me- yes for real! She said we were late and we over stayed our visit and had a crying baby. I was shocked at all of this. I said we had a reservation but were 10 minutes late with a few realatives coming from out of town. She then said the baby cried too much and we stayed too long! Well, 2 years later I gave it another shot and took my best friend there today. She was brisk when we asked for a certain talbe and never gave us eye contact. Our hostest never asked to refill our tea. When I payed she never looked up or asked how it was- the brisk manager/ owner. She just said, wait and she then greeted people. and sat them. Simply horribe and it is not worth going as long as that woman runs the place!

Went to the Old English tea room with my granddaughter, her mom and my sister. We all loved it. My little granddaughter had to wear a hat and so did her mommy. We had a wonderful time.

When I first walked into Olde English Tea Room, I was immediately in love with the ambiance and atmosphere. The day I went was a cold and rainy day and I immediately felt warm as soon as I was in the door! The wait was a little longer than I would have liked, but it was Friday at lunch and we had not made reservations. The service we received when we were finally seated was excellent! I will definitely be returning!!

An excellent selection of loose-leaf teas accompanies a traditional afternoon tea service and small additional menu. Be warned, the food is extremely rich! The scones and small desserts in an afternoon tea service can be overwhelming, though the tastiness of the offerings often lures me into eating more than is wise. In the summer they had a delicious cold strawberry soup that delighted my palate.

The gift shop downstairs is nice but I'm enamored of the variety of tea accoutrements they offer upstairs -- many beautiful patterns of tea services, infusers, gifts, books, and even these elusive drip-guards that hook over a teapot lid and hold it on as well as catch drips from the spout. A box full of beautiful vintage hats at the top of the stairs always catches my eye.

A very pretty dining area, though cramped (people kept bumping my chair), and a similarly cramped gift shop in the basement (beware the trecherous stairway - I slipped and fell, but caught myself before too much damage was done).

The place was so noisy that even sitting at a small table, we had to yell to hear each other. Yes, they welcome children. Which is great if you plan to bring children. I have two little girls, so I know it's wonderful to find family-friendly places. But if you want to leave the little girls at home & have "adult time" this isn't the place. At least, not on a Saturday.

The afternoon tea was four finger sandwiches (1/4-sandwich each of cucumber and cream cheese, egg salad, tuna and children salad) one scone, tea and cookies, for $12.00 a person. Or you can choose from a menu of sandwiches, shepherd pie, chicken divan, desserts, scones, muffins, coffee & of course tea. At V's Teas & Treasures in Raleigh - which has much better lemonade & serves lemon curd - everyone HAS to get the high tea for $20 a person. So we appreciated having the various menu (& budget) options here.

Most of the employees were incredible nice. Our server, however, while attentive and efficient, was very cold & brusque. Example: "I'm going to tell you all the scone flavors now," she says, "cranberry chocolate chip butterscotch walnut and plain." So, I ask, is that butterscotch - comma - walnut, or is that butterscotch AND walnut? And she gave me a look like I was a pile of dirty socks.

I know it sounds like I didn't enjoy myself, I actually did. Yes, I would like to go back & take my little girls for tea and dessert. No, I would not return with a group of adults to have afternoon tea. Also, be aware that all of the lovely little gift shops & galleries along the street close at 4 or 5 in the afternoon, even on Saturday.

Cons: Family-friendly, noisy, cramped, only one toilet in women's bathroom

I want to clarify the comment that this is not a good place for kids - IT IS - so long as your child is into "tea parties". They have hats and scarves and beads and gloves for the little darlings to play dress up with and they even have PB&J on the menu. It is definitely a place to start introducing your daughter (or son) to the finer aspects of "manners" and "proper" tea. My daughters are 3 (I have twins) and 7 (only 1) and they love it love it love it! It is a time for mommy and them to go be GIRLS! And I love seeing my normally heathen children actually acting like ladies.

IT's nice! As a realtor, I find it is a wonderful place for a lunch meeting or to entertain clients. Highly highly highly recommend!!!! (Can you tell that I can't say enough nice things about this place?)

Go, relax, sit back, and be pampered!

Pros: Brings the values of the olden days back to life!

Cons: Seating is a little crowded - would prefer more space between tables

this the place to take your "little girls" (ages 5 to 50,lol) to enjoy the years of yesterday, the teas are wonderful and the sandwiches are out of this world!
this is how it still should be, friends sitting around, having a cup of tes and little finger foods and chatting all day...wait!!! you still can do it, and the old english tea room, in historic downtown wake forest!

What a wonderful experience! I took my mother here and she just loved it! They have two Victorian rooms, the green library and the pink room for seating. Their salads (tuna, chicken pecan, waldorf, egg) are all home made. And their desserts, mmmm.

the tea room may not have a wide selection of entrees- but all are prepared fresh and served with a smile. the atmosphere is so sweet and it is the perfect place to bring visiting friends, family, or anyone else that you want to be able to just take tea with and talk. come for lunch just after the rush and you can sit and enjoy the ambience all day with a gracious staff, a gift shop downstairs and a Delicious dessert menu- the tea room is the perfect place for a social meal or a great place to just take a few minutes to sit and enjoy the classical music with a scone and tea or coffee.
