D.S. Parada has been rated the "best hair salon in the Triangle" by Spectator magazine several years in a row. The ladies (and men) who work there really know their stuff. The only draw-back: their services are very pricey. However, definitely recommended if you want to color your hair. They have natural lighting and different color rooms depending on what color your hair is. As with all salons, they tend to be a bit cliqueish.
