I have to say I was very dissapointed with my care at the Birth and Wellness Center. I noticed the floors were usually pretty dirty and the bathroom was awful. The woman who took my blood was sweet though as was the home nurse who visited me after my delivery. My first impression was that I would be able to deliver my baby how I had envisioned. However, after my first appointment (after switching from my OBGYN) I began to be more fearful of switching. The midwives all told me different information. One said I should take certain herbs while the other said to definitely avoid them. That should have been my warning but I felt it would all be worth it when I could deliver my baby how I wanted. However, when it came time to deliver the midwife on the phone did not know who I was and must??ve had the wrong file. She did not know I already had a baby and a fast delivery the first time. She also was unaware I lived over an hour away. Even though my contractions were only a few minutes apart, she told me to wait to come in. I ended up not making it to the center but delivered in a hospital because of her neglect. I am thankful that my baby was healthy but I left feeling so upset about my experience. I have been telling other women about my story in hopes this doesn??t happen again. With such a special time in your life take yourself to a warm, well trained doctor (or some other midwives).

I delivered my daughter at WBWC on the day after Christmas. I had my son in a hospital and had no problems, but with that experience and my subsequent ones during my pregnancy with my daughter where I felt rushed and more like a number than anything else, I decided to transfer to WBWC. I transferred late- at 32 weeks- but was thrilled with my care. I had a wonderful natural birth in which I was able to do whatever I wanted, and the follow-up care was truly remarkable. This is the way our entire medical system should work.If we decide to have another child, I will deliver there again. In the meantime I will continue with my well care at WBWC.

I delivered at the Women's Birth and Wellness Center last Spring. My experience there was wonderful. The prenatal care and birth experience there could not be beat.

The midwives really take their time with each prenatal appointment. They allot 1 hour for your first appointment and 30 minutes for each subsequent appointment. They get to know their patients and they really care about what the mom is looking for with the birth. They require that a patient attend childbirth education courses to prepare themselves for a natural birth.

During birth, the midwives are wonderful. Sarah was at my birth and I felt like she was my pillar. She knew exactly what to say and do to help me to deliver my son naturally.

The birth center has large tubs where you can labor and deliver if you wish. They also have birthing balls and birthing stools in each room. The rooms feel cozy and comfortable and do not have a medical feel to them at all.

This is the kind of place that people dream about. All of the staff listen to what you have to say and genuinely care about the outcome of your situation. You are granted the freedom to participate in something special, rather than just standing by and letting it happen. From the front staff, to the nurses, to the midwives; they all award you with kind faces and attitudes. You are not treated as just another number with $$$$s next to it, but as a respected patient and a friend. You are the reason these women are at work everyday, and that is reflected in their work.I came to WBWC on the referral of a friend. I didn't realize that the triangle offered a facility like WBWC at the start of my pregnancy. I transferred at 19 weeks, immediately after I attended the tour of the facilities. I wanted a natural birth from the beginning, but felt very tense and anxious about how everything was going to be. The Birthing Center put my mind at ease knowing that my opinions and views would be respected; as well as knowing that I was now in a very supportive and nurturing environment. I would have loved to be at WBWC from the beginning, but I am thankful for what time I had there. This was my 1st pregnancy and it truly was a dream. Everything, including the labour process, was very enjoyable. My labour was a bit short, but it was extremely calming and reassuring to have the midwife stay on the phone with me for more than half the ride there. (The hour ride was completely worth it!!!!) She talked me through my contractions until we reached the Birthing Center, where she was waiting in the parking lot!! (Now, THAT is an amazing woman!)I believe that these women are very special, and if you want to have a natural childbirth, then THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!! I will continue to attend WBWC for my yearly check-ups and for the occasional visit to say hello. They also have a good library of books on pregnancy, labour, and lactation, as well as a new store that has a lot of interesting things! They also have classes available for lactation. I really cannot say enough good things about WBWC.Remember that pregnancy is a natural process, and that your body knows exactly what to do...you're job is to trust it.
