I took my dog to Union Cross Animal Hospital after she started to limp. I am new to the area and this was only my second visit. My dog is only 3 1/2 years old and Dr.Lindsay suggested we have x-rays taken. They need me to leave her there ALL day to do this and she is terrified of strangers. They called me half way through the day and said that they thought she had a spinal injury and would need to do more x-rays $$$. They thought she was lame in both of her back legs because she rolls on her back and pees when she is scared. Then when we went to pick her up thew told me it looked like bone cancer, but possibly a bone infection in her back leg and that they would need to do blood work which I had done and x-ray her lungs to see if the cancer had spread, which I would not allow. They prescribed 2 heavy narcotic pain killers even though the dog was not experiencing pain. I left the office devastated. Being told that bone cancer is a quick and painful death and was charged $260 including a fee for boarding her when I did not want to leave her in the first place.
The office called me the next day with the blood results and they told me that they needed to schedule a bone biopsy to be done that would be $415. I said that I would like to speak with the doctor and the tech became rude and told me that I would have to make an appointment if I wanted to talk with the vet$$
I hung up on her and had my husband call back a few days later. He spoke with the vet and was told that both her and the other vet believed it to be cancer and they referred us to Carolina Veterinary Specialists (whom I highly recommend) to talk about possible treatment options. When I took here there, the looked at the x-rays and blood work from Union Cross Animal Hospital and they told me that she did not have cancer and that her knee was becoming dislocated, a common problem in her breed. (luxating Patella)
The bottom line, they do not know what they are talking about, they are rude and insensitive. I will be taking my 3 dogs elsewhere from now on. What they put my family through should be a crime.

I was a vet tech for a surgeon in GA for 5 years, and am extremely picky about health care for my animals. I went to 3 different clinics in the area before finding Union Cross. At the time (6 years ago) I had 3 elderly pets. I found the staff to be kind and well informed. Dr. Tart was the vet we used the first few years, although he seems to be nearing retirement now. He is brilliant, thorough in his research with issues, and had wonderful bedside manner in a calm quiet way. He has called me late at night and at odd times on the weekends to check on my animals or to give me lab results that came in. I have now seen 4 other vets there, and all have been extremely kind. Dr. Tart's daughter, Dr. Murphy, is at the practice now and has a wonderful youthful vigour mixed with her father's brilliance. She helped me with my dog who had cancer. She communicates everything clearly, is also prone to calling at any time to check on my animals or give lab results, and did an amazing amount of research when my dog was doing something medically "weird." It is my belief that a vet clinic's true test is when it is time to humanely end a pet's suffering, and they passed that test with me. They took care of me, and more importantly my elderly pets, when that time came, and I can't thank the Doctors and staff enough. I feel very lucky to have found them in NC.

I have had two positive experiences with this animal hospital. We took our cat her to be declawed and they treated her wonderfully and provided us with great service. More recently, we had to take our 11-year-old golden retriever in as she was sick, and they were so sweet and caring about her. When we brought her home, the vet personally called us several times to check up on her, and when our dog finally passed away, they took care of getting her cremated. I cannot say enough positive things about this animal hospital.

I was not a patron, until my cat had an injury, so I have only had one experience with their services. I took my injured cat there first thing in the morning last year, and when I came back that afternoon she had not been treated. I could see her in the holding crate, and that her head was still bloodied. I was very upset that she had spent all day in pain with an open head wound. I would not recommend their services, which is a shame since they are so close to my home. I know others in my neighborhood have had good experiences...but that one time was enough for me to not wish to use them again.

just moved from yadkinville to kernersville and the vets office is very convenient for where i live. took my cat in and was immediately struck by the awful smell. like 1000 dirty wet animals plus urine, etc... I could hardly breathe.

made it even worse that the young girls were chatting at the front desk. I appreciate that they give young kids a chance to work, but they need to teach them some work ethic and make them actually earn their pay. if you have time to lean you have time to clean.

we got our yearly shots and got out as fast as we could.

You cannot find any better care for your animals than with Dr. Tart! He has been caring for my 'children' for well over 20 years and I have never had a bad experience. The office staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. Dr. Tart has a special touch with animals and is able to effectively combine a vast knowledge of veterinarian practice with kind-hearted individual attention. Love him and you will too.
