Went there for dinner on spur of the moment with wife Saturday night. Friendly, attentive service. Owner/chef came out to socialize and make sure we were satisfied. They accomodated wife's food restrictions. Marinara was incredible. Scallops were perfectly cooked. Everything fresh. Tiramisu was perfect end. We will be back!!!

Casalinga is an amazing Italian restaurant! My family found this place over ten years ago and this has been a favorite since. They have an amazing buffet with a great selection of different Italian dishes. Their pizza is pretty amazing as well. This is definitely a place you should at least try once.

OK so it's in a strip plaza with a lot of restaurants. But if you find this place, you found good eats. When we have a special dinner, we think of this place. When we had a bunch of family come to town, we though of this place. The wait staff is the best period. Mr. Whittaker has treat my kids wonderfully. The food is bar none. And if you don't think so mention it to the owner because he will check on you sometime during your visit. Luckily, they have expanded over the years to fit the crowd. We go there on a lot of off nights for birthdays and they are always packed.

Casalinga has the most wonderful buffet with a great variety of authentic Italian food. The atmosphere is wonderful with Italian music playing and great decor. The buffet was our favorite - compared with an ordered entree.

Casalinga reminds me of all the family owned Italian restaurants I used to love up north. Everything tastes so fresh, the staff is warm and the food is delicious. This is where I take my family when they visit.

A co-worker recommended Casalinga to me as some of the best Italian food in Raleigh, and even after having it built up I was not disappointed! The staff is so friendly every time I eat in, and when I do take-out the process is smooth. The food is incredible, and though I usually order the same thing whenever I eat there, my husband does not and we are ALWAYS satisfied!

This was my first experience at Casalinga's and it was wonderful. I enjoyed linguini with shrimp, clams, calamari, mussels, and scungeli, it was delicious, generous portion , could have used a little more sauce. The pasta was done perfectly. The breads were cripsy and great for dipping, The tossed salad was fresh and plentiful. I would say the prices were reasonable considering the portion sizes and qualityof the food. One of my favorite things though was the music!! It was the music I grew up iwith in an Italain family. Although deceased I could hear my Dad singing along with Dean Martin and I with Connie Francis, I had not heard Ol sol a mio in years but It brought memories of the big wind up victrola in our basement where we would play all the Italain music on Sunday afternoons while pot of sauce simmered on the stove. My only complaint was I found it to be a bit too dark inside which made it difficult for me ot read the menu. Our waiter was wonderful. He was attentive but not overly so! A wonderful time was had by all !!Between good food, the wonderful music and my two friends it was a perfect evening!!

Haven't been back since the change in management. Was really looking forward since seeing all the positive reviews.
We were severely disappointed!! The food on the buffet had no flavor. Everything was really watery. when I asked about Carlo the woman who claimed to be the owner suddenly became very cold and angry. Although the servers were friendly, We won't be back. Looking back, it seems like all those positive reviews were written by the same person. Such a shame because we really liked this place when Carlo was here and now its just not the same.

This place is better than ever, with Josephine and Manny running it, if you felt uncomfortable in the past but loved the food , it's ok now, go back and you will have a pleasent experience with no harrasment! Food is better than ever and the gracious hostess.. Josephine and owner will welcome you with open arms and her sidekick Manny is always the best. Best linguini w/ white clam sauce and the hot spinach salad is outta this world. Now a very comfortable environment..you will feel at home in this amazing place of good food and great atmosphere.

This place is remarkable. In my opinion, it competes with the best Italian restaurants anywhere (better than Michael's in Apex). If you want true, down home Italian meals, then this is the place to eat. The service is impeccable, the food is almost all made from scratch in-house, and the dessert oh-my-god! Some of the best Tiramisu you will ever taste. I went to Casalinga for lunch one day, and on the lunch buffet were fresh made, piping hot dishes, even included pizza! I'm talking meatballs, chicken parm, chicken scalipini, pastas, cold pastas...all made from scratch! After that lunch, I've been going there ever since. I even held a corporate lunch function there that went off with a bang. The friendly staff took care of my clients like they were their own. I would definitely recommend this place for all meals, from lunch to dinner, for corporate functions, to wedding rehearsal dinners, this place is great. I also just found out that they started doing wine and dinner tastings on Wednesday nights! Something I most definitely will have to check out in the near future. If you enjoy Italian food the way it was intended to be made, then this is Raleigh's only option!

In regards to previous post....I had quite the opposite happen. I had several bad experiences just like that when the old owner was there. He was always yelling at someone and blamed his cook when my meal came out wrong instead of trying to make it right. He didn't even offer an app or anything. I thought he was some big deal chef and that HE was the cook. That's what he had told us before. Not sure but I just went back a month or so ago and it was a really pleasant experience. The meal and desserts were awesome - we were given complimentary tiramisu. The person that created the recipes is actually in charge again. I'm very pleased the other dude isn't there anymore.

I went to casalinga for the first time this past weekend and it was phenomenal!!!!! First, the owner Josephine greeted and sat us in a beautiful back room with an amazing marble topped bar in the entry way and gorgeous decor in the private dining room. Second, our server Blake had an amazing smile and knowledge of wine, the entire menu, and history of the restaurant, not to mention unbelievable treatment. It was my families first time there and we felt like we were part of the casalinga family! Can't wait to go back!!!!

I finally made it back to casalinga for the lunch buffet after a couple years in culinary school and it's better then ever! The food was fantastic! Mussels marinara, spaghetti carbonarra, penne ala vodka, eggplant parm, chicken casalinga, pizza, Stromboli, salad bar you name it... They got it!!!! And the best thing ever... My girlfriend went to the bathroom and I didn't have to watch the owner obviously check her out and make crude gestures!!!!!( aka last experience with "don" Carlo. Which I found through my new culinary connections that he never attended culinary school and the menu is from Josephines family recipes. Thank god the real owner is back and the same chefs Eric and Victor are still rocking out like the past 8 years!!!! Still the best Italian food in Raleigh!!!!!!!!

I love Casalinga! The food is amazing, the atmosphere is sophisticated, the staff are friendly and professional. I have never had a bad dining experience at Casalinga. Josephine is warm and attempts to greet every customer who comes in. I love when she adds her old family recipes to the daily menu....so good!! Live music on occasion is a nice touch and adds to the overall dining experience as well. If you want good authentic Italian food, go to Casalinga, you will not regret it.

It is amazing every single time I go in. Don't go in expecting to run right out. This is a place where you are going to want to take your time. Savor the great cooking. I recently was there for a Christmas party for my office. Everyone was so happy. It was a first for all of them and they all, 14, plan on returning. DON"T take my word for it, go in. Josephine is wonderful and will make you feel like you are part of the family. I know I feel that way each and every time I return. Going back again tonight to see Santa.

Visited Casalinga last Saturday evening. Was most dissapointed! First was placed with my wife & son in the back room with two tables of 12, Plus with screaming children. Then ordered clams Oraganato. The bread crumbs were burned, clams dried out. Then the entre of Blue Crab ravioli came and the sauce tasted like it was out of a Food Lion Jar! What has happened to the great food I used to enjoy. The place seemed more like a toomb rather than the old Casalinga. Will not return.

I had been to Casalinga many times before I moved away... now that I am back in the Triangle as of last week that was the first place I wanted to go eat. How disappointed was I when I ordered my favorite dish and it came out flavorless, chewy and as if the cooks had no idea what real Italian food should tase like. If I wanted to have wanna be Italian food I would have just went to Olive Garden!!!!!!!!!!!

This really is one of the best kept secrets anywhere. I have driven past the shopping center where Casalina is and never knew that it was there. I have even eaten at another place in the same shopping center. The food is extraordinary and the service is great. This is a place you definitely need to check out. Everything on the menu looks great and it's hard to make a decision. When you go you definitely have to try the Tiramisu.

I??m from New Jersey?where you not only lived around many Italians, you enjoyed some of the best homemade gravy ever! Access to a vast variety made life in NJ amazing. After moving to NC about 18 months ago, I began to become seriously disillusioned about finding quality dinning options. I was at a point that if I were subjected to eating at yet another chain restaurant I would scream!

Then a colleague heard my cries and told me about a little hidden gem called Casalinga Ristorante Italiano Restaurant. I was of course doubtful, having been disappointed by the local Italian choices that claim to be from the NY area or the best in Raleigh. Well I am proud to say, Casalinga Ristorante Italiano Restaurant is by far the BEST I??ve had since coming to NC and takes me on an emotional trip home when savoring each bite.

Thank you Casalinga Ristorante Italiano Restaurant and please keep cooking.

Tucked in a shopping plaza off of Capital Blvd., you may not even realize an authentic taste of Italy awaits you. From the decor to ambience, you have just walked into the owner's, Carlo, grandmother's home and kitchen back in Sorrento. Its simplistic rustic charm, decor and elegance takes you to the old country.

As a born and raised New Yorker, I understand authentic regional Italian and this is it. No bottled sauces here and the meatballs are to die for- made fresh daily. If you crave an experience to excite the palette and senses then this it. Staff is friendly, courteous and accommodating. Mangia!

Oh Heavenly Days! The food is stellar and the service was fantastic! Our server, Rola, was delightful and did a great job! The food was fresh and the depth of flavor was unbelievable.

My husband said the clams casino were so good he thought he'd cry. :-) He also spent several weeks in Italy and had many wonderful meals there. But he said that the food at Casalinga is still the best Italian food he's ever eaten.

And the bread? OH MY! there were delicious garlic knots, wonderful Italian bread, and something I can only describe as little soft, delicate, light, puffs of nirvana with what I think was maranara sauce baked on top.

The Veal Casaling and Chicken Casalinga were phenominal, and the portions were so big we each had enough for at least one more meal in our doggie bags. I chose a side of pasta to go with my chicken and the maranara sauce on it was wonderful! It was enough for ANOTHER meal by itself !!!!

DESSERT YOU SAY?? HOLY COW ! The limoncello cake was light and creamy and heavenly! The tiramisu was the best I've ever eaten. I've tried tiramisu in many other places and just never really cared for it. But the Casalinga tiramisu converted me forever. My husband also had tiramisu in Italy from a little neighborhood bakery outside of Rome.... Carlo's tiramisu BLEW IT AWAY it was SO much better.

The food was so terrific at Casalinga's we thought we'd died and gone to Heaven. But thankfully, we didn't because now we can go eat at Casalinga's again !!!!

Usually crowed restaurant seating and lots of families with kids is NOT my kind of place. Somehow Casalinga makes all that work. The fun, friendly feeling in the dining room is contagious. The food is to die for. The service never less than great...and frequently is a genuine delight. The breads are beyond words and will live in your memory for years. Everything on the menu is superb. I think their veal is the best to be had anywhere in the triangle. And by all means finish up with a cappuccino and cheesecake.
One small quirk...they charge you extra to 'eat in' if you order pizza. Don't let that one catch you by surprise.

I travel all over the country for work and also have been to Europe. I recently had a meal with my wife at Casalinga and I have to say that the food Carlo makes at his restaurant is the best on the planet ! Really, I can cook myself and anyone that eats at Casalinga will admit that Carlo has a gift. I think he should change the name of Casalinga to " Smack your Momma" I italian restorante , but I know the italian mothers would be offended.

We went there for the first time last week and I was very happy. The food was great. The service was very good. The chef agreed to make the soups with vegetable stock for us. That was just the beginning. The bread came out next. They give 2 kinds of bread. One with a marinara sauce on top. The other was a plain but extremely soft bread. The food was great too. The pasta with Vodka sauce was the best. The portions are great too. We had a small issue with the bill and the owner came around fixed it immediately. I liked that they take care of the customers very well. I will definitely go there again!

i've been going to casalinga for a couple of years now. it started with a business lunch buffet and progressed into going there for dinner. as someone who likes variety, i have been to nearly every restaurant in raleigh that someone recommends as good for one reason or another. as a result i can truthfully say that casalinga is my number one, first choice for any occasion, whether for a business lunch, intimate dining experience with a friend or dinner plans with a small group. the lunch buffet is the best i've found and very reasonably priced. it offers "high end" selections not found on most italian bufffet's and there is great "depth" to the flavor and texture of each item. carlo has put a lot of thought into this area of his business and it is very evident in the product. the dinner menu is extensive with traditional favorites as well as house specialties. i try something different every time i go and each new meal is my new favorite. if you are looking for an authentic, rich italian experience with the very best food at a price that appeals to even the most frugal budget, then you must go to casalinga.

i've been going to casalinga for a couple of years now. it started with a business lunch buffet and progressed into going there for dinner. as someone who likes variety, i have been to nearly every restaurant in raleigh that someone recommends as good for one reason or another. as a result i can truthfully say that casalinga is my number one, first choice for any occasion, whether for a business lunch, intimate dining experience with a friend or dinner plans with a small group. the lunch buffet is the best i've found and very reasonably priced. it offers "high end" selections not found on most italian bufffet's and there is great "depth" to the flavor and texture of each item. carlo has put a lot of thought into this area of his business and it is very evident in the product. the dinner menu is extensive with traditional favorites as well as house specialties. i try something different every time i go and each new meal is my new favorite. if you are looking for an authentic, rich italian experience with the very best food at a price that appeals to even the most frugal budget, then you must go to casalinga.

Pros: the total package italian dining experience at a great price

Cons: none

If excellent customer service is what you strive for in a outing, you would need to find Christina. This waitress goes above and beyond her duties as a waitress. She completely makes sure her customers are taken care of to the fullest extent. If you want a pleasing and satisfying experience, I would highly recommend getting her as your waitress.

The server was ok at the beginning, but messed up my friend's dinner order (the chicken pizza was missing all other toppings except chicken!). he then seemed very reluctant to make another pizza and just offered to bring all other toppings separately as a side. Another friend of mine had asked for hot sauce and had to ask 3 more times before being told that they had run out of hot sauce and that he would have brought it earlier if he had it!!!.. In the end, the check had a "share" charge of $ 3 for three of our dishes.. when we asked about the share charge, we were told by the manager, that we were given more food because we asked for our dishes to be split in 2 and the server was actually doing us a favor by not charging us for an entire order. Sure enough, there was no mention of the share charge on the menu. the manager did finally take it off but added a "generous" gratuity to make up for it..... all in all, we didn't mind the food so much, but were quite disappointed with the service we got..

My family been there several times never been nothing but impressed with the flavor of their Meals. Service is good and attentive. Place is a little pricey but sometimes we pay more for things that we view as good. Pizza is just ok.. stick with the pasta dishes!

My friend and I ate here last month and the food and service were excellent. We were turned off by the location at first (being located in a strip mall off Capital Blvd.), but once we were inside, it was a totally different atmosphere. Inside the it was was very cozy and nicely decorated.

Even though Raleigh lacks an authentic Italian restaurant I like Casalinga. It is located in a low end strip mall but I keep going back because the food is great! I lived in Italy for 2 years so, I am comfortable with this type of atmosphere which is quite comfortable on the inside. It is a bit pricier than comparable places like Cafe Luna. If you live near Casalinga take advantage of taking out a pizza! If you like a more romantic place where you can walk to other bars and shops after the meal then go to Vivace in North Hills Mall.

The first time my friends brought me to this place I thought it was going to be horrible. We pulled up to this strip mall and the outside of the restaurant looked mediocre at best. But once inside you totally forget the outside! It's very comfortable and laid-back inside. The food is amazing! I think it's funny to read some of the reviews that say the food is okay. Those reviews are probably written by the people that rave about Olive Garden. THIS is Italian food! I highly recommend it!

Dining in a strip mall has not always been my idea of a romantic dinner, but once you walk inside, you will feel enveloped in Italy! The walls are covered in photos of celebrities that have eaten Carlo's food. The tables are quaint and the bar area is really nice. I especially enjoyed the Caprese salad - it's hard to find good tomatoes this time of year. I had the seafood linguini. There must have been a pound of linguini on my plate. Enough for 2 and the fish was delicious. Carlo the owner was VERY hospitable. It's nice to walk into a place where the management greets you like you've known them all your life. This is a "hidden gem" and certainly worth a try.

If you like garlic knots then this is your place....if you like Italian food try somewhere else.

Food was way overprice for the quality of what arrived in front of me to eat. My entree was supposed to be spaghetti carbonara, but it was spaghetti floating in "milk" that basically tasted like alfredo sauce.

If dragged there fill up on garlic knots, beer and have a salad!

Food was great after I had the time to fix it at home, so if you must be sure to take a portion home and redo it there.

We just recently moved here from the NY/ NJ area and my family came to visit last week and so I made a reservation for 25 in their back room. I was amazed when ALL our food came out ontime, it was all hot -our drinks never went unflilled - and carlo, the owner was great. He came into the dining room about 10 minutes after receiving our food to make sure that everything was ok. After dinner Carlo surprised all of us with free dessert! How awesome. He really went out of his way to make sure that we had the best experience possible. After dinner I noticed that he is a Five Star Chef and has his certificate on the wall. Although this was our first time eating at Casalinga it wont be the last! My family from NY told me they are coming to visit in about a month and begged me that when they come to town - Casalinga is the place they want to go.

I have had the opportunity to eat there and the food is great! The service is excellent. It is the best kept secret in the triangle. You will be blown away with the inside decor of the restaraunt. During these economic times noone wants to waste money on terrible food. You will leave there with your monies worth. The portions are plentiful and the taste will keep you coming back!

I would just like to mention that my family and I eat at Casalinga ALL the time! since day one, we have always been treated like part of a family. Every person that works there always has a smile on their face and is so eager to help no matter how small or big the request. For all the people who have made comments about the place not being clean, the food taking forever to come out, ect. I would just like to say - that EVERYTIME i am in there I always notice that the workers are cleaning something. I have never seen dust on picture frames, or flowers, there is never any trash left on the floor (undertables, ect.) and even the bathrooms are always kept clean. As far as the food - WOW! Everything they cook comes out hot and tastes so good that all you want to do is lick your plate clean even if you are stuffed! You might have a small wait to get your food, but honestly people, lets be real - you will wait at ANY place you go to eat! All food is made fresh to order in the kitchen - no preprocessed or microwaved food (it even mentions this on the back of their menu). The owner, Carlo, is amazing! He is so involved - From helping in the kitchen to greating customers - it is a wonder how the man does it all! He is so friendly with everyone. He gives my two little ones hugs when they come in and makes a point to tell them chow when we leave! AMAZING - that is the only word I can think of to describe this place..... just pure AMAZING! So for all of you who like to write bad things about good places - lets find something else to take up your time. These people work hard everyday to make your dining experience the best it could ever be and if the best is not good enough it seems as though you should stay at home and cook something in your own kitchen that will take 5 minutes to heat up in the microwave! For those of you who like fresh made to order food - Casalinga is the place to go!! They have been open for 14 years - and that in itself has to say something!

It is a shame that citysearch requires you to give at least one star in order to write a review. Here is how it went down. Our server (if that job now requires no skills, manners, or sense of responsiblity) had to be flagged down to place an order. Each and every item when it FINALLY came was over seasoned and over cooked. Oh yeah I haven't mentioned the over abundance of fake plants with enough dust on them to require an allegra to sit down. I kept looking for cameras to see if I was on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, but no chef Ramsey. This turned out to be how they did business. When asked at the register how was everything. I simply asked do you want the truth or what you would like to hear? That recieved a shoulder shrug. So I left it simply at don't worry I won't be back. I'm hoping that this review helps someone in not making thie same mistake.

If you have elbows, they won't fit in this space. They leave about 5 molecules between each table. I can't only inhale, but there's no room to exhale. And their sauce is icky... it's sweet.

The place is pretty, tho, with its murals and plants and paintings on the wall and arched doorways. I just couldn't really see it because about 5 other heads and elbows were in my face.

I love Casalinga. Not sure why I haven't had any of their main Italian dishes, but I've had plenty pizzas, and they great. I just had a spinach salad with warm bacon vinagrette. It was amazing. As was the stromboli. I'm sure everything here is great. And the service is prompt and extremely friendly for takeout (I haven't eaten in yet). On top of all this, you are helping a small family business thrive against all the mega-franchises. It's a win-win.

This is a great place if you want traditional Italian food. On weekends, they have live entertainment (a little dated but pretty good). Don't be fooled by the outside appearance, the inside is fantastic. A definite try!

Listen up everyone who considers themselves a "Foodie", or just longs for exquisite Italian cuisine!
If you want to discover a treasure of Italian culinary pleasure, then you will be surprised to find this slice of heaven, in such a non-descript spot.........(near a Food Lion & a H&R block)......therefore, we must never judge a restaurant by it's exterior, or it's surroundings.
Oh, If everyone only knew, than all those "Italian type chain" restaurants in Raleigh, like the ones across, & down the street on Capital, would just go out of business!
I have only dined at Casalinga twice, but it is, by far, my favorite restaurant in all of North Carolina. And I have had the privilege of experiencing some of the finest establishments in several cities across the state that are known for great dining, such as, Charlotte, Chapel Hill, and Asheville. I moved to North Carolina in 1983 from San Diego, and fine dinning has always been apart of my family history.
Experience for yourself "Casalinga.....which means homemade in Italian".
And as we all know, word of mouth, is the greatest form of advertising!
