Great place to have a drink with your friends. The service is good and the waitress is very friendly. I love how this place can rock and get a bit crowded!

After reading most of the reviews here I decided to write my own, because it bothers me how some people rate the Restaurant in one bad experience. Everybody has a bad experience once in a while - but I say ; you got to try it for yourself because everyone has different opinions about everything not just food or service. Most of the review here are about slow service and the food's pricey but people don't take into concideration that "Fine Dining" is suppose to be that way. At Villa Antonio you have to expect your food to take a while because its worth it the quality, plus they allow you to relax and talk by giving you time between each course; not just bring on the entree like all the other restaurants. If $20 is too much for you to enjoy a great meal and relax then you shouldn't go in the first place, don't get me wrong, I can only afford it on special ocassions, but its well worth it ! I have been to other Restaurants were its less elegant with horrible service and supposilly cheaper and I spend the same amount of money that I would here. People say the wine and cocktails are expensive, the truth is that the have a great selection and with all different prices, cheaper than what u would imagine. I like to dine a lot and definetly Villa Antonio's is my favorite in Charlotte. I recently went back for my wife's b-day, and had a fenomenal time, food was awesome, service was superb and on top of that after dinner they came out to sing with a sparkler for her and they even wrote her name on the plate, that was over the top, my wife loved that, because on other places they just sing for you and that's it. So, overall I think is a matter of personal opinion, If your server is not doing o good job I would just request a different one and don't let them spoil your nigth. I would highly encourage you to try it for yourselfs.

We were very disappointed when we tried one of Villa Antonio's wine tasting events at the South Boulevard location. These events supposedly allow each person to try 5 wines for $20 and include hors d'oeuvres. As we found out, an undisclosed 18% service charge is added to the bill regardless of the size of the party. To make matters worse, if you purchase any of the "discounted" wines during the tasting event, the service charge is applied to your wine purchase as well. The hidden charges increase the cost of both the event and any wines purchased. The charges seem excessive for a buffet-type service consisting of hors d'oeuvres. Rebecca, the assistant manager, stated that this was standard practice for Villa Antonio's wine tasting events and would not consider decreasing the charges. Management's attitude was definitely not customer friendly. For an establishment that prides itself on service, this attitude was a disappointment. We value establishments that are more up-front about their charges, and respond better to customer complaints. We won't be returning.

Love, love, love this restaurant... my husband and I celebrate our birthdays, anniversary and Valentine's at this restaurant again and again. Excellent service, entrees are expensive but worth it... my current favorite is the beef tournedoes. Extra-romantic on the nights that the pianist plays in the bar area.

My wife and I were considering different restaurants to go out for our anniversary. After looking over several recommendations from friends, we decided on Villa Antonio Ristorante on South Blvd. We figured it would be pretty good, but what we experienced was far beyond that. A very lovely evening was enjoyed by us both. We were treated with the highest respect at the door -- an immediate sign to me that the staff is attentive and very worthy. They sat us with a smile. The server came promptly to take our drink orders, and then meal orders. She was knowledgeable with our questions of the menu. Although this establishment is elegant with fine Italian food with exquisite service, the server and the managers were personable enough to us to make us feel very much at home and comfortable.
My wife was delighted to have the friendly maitre d', Fidel, escort her to the restroom on his arm.
While we waited on the food to come, we sipped our Merlot as we listened to the musician performing there. Apparently, they have live music about every night. Very nice. When the food came, the presentation was impressive as our plates were unveiled simultaneously by our server and another server with the clang of the plate covers --a nice touch.
The meal was hot and delicious. My wife had chicken parmesan, I had the Sacchetini with run-ripened tomatoes. It was some of the best I've ever had.
The musical entertainment that night was surprisingly good. The fellow at the piano, Bobby A, was very entertaining with a variety of songs. My wife was impressed with his vocals, too. Although we were content to sit and enjoy, Fidel coaxed us to the dance floor -- and I'm glad he did! We haven't danced in years and when Bobby played Lady In Red, my wife (wearing red) got choked up a bit. We connected like we haven't done so in a long time. I think that it was very much to do with our excellent experience at Villa Antonio. Great wine, food and music. Highly recommended. Please go!

We went there for a birthday party of a coworker. The only thing positive about the experience was that the drinks were refilled quickly. The chicken was bland, the pork dry and rice hard (from the buffet). The dish that had seafood in it reeked (like it had been sitting out too long). The lettuce head was cut into 1/8 chunks and just tossed into a bowl. There was only 1, yes 1! type of salad dressing (ranch). What kind of Italian place doesn't have Italian dressing? When it came to dessert we were told that they were 1/2 off, but when we got the bills they were $4.50 (and we thought, WOW, those were supposed to be $9.00??). Now, we realize that not asking about it was OUR fault, but at that point we just wanted to get out of there. Places normally tell you that they will add a 15-18% gratuity to the bill. The Villa Antonio decided to tip themselves 20%! Now that may not seem like a huge difference, but I have never heard of a place adding 20% to the bill. In my opinion 20% is a tip reserved for outstanding service...not filling up our drinks and clearing away our dishes as WE serve ourselves to a buffet style lunch. I will for one NEVER go to Villa Antonios again, nor recommend it. The soup was okay...but not worth the bill.

Buffet 9$, drink (diet coke) $2, Dessert (cheesecake that was bland) $4.50. Overall with the tip ~$21.00

My husband and I searched for a romantic restaurant to try in the Charlotte area. We picked Villa Antonio's based on recommendations from friends and other research. We could hear the music as we entered and requested seating in the piano area. Bobby, the musician, played nostalgic, as well as,contemporary music creating an ambiance unlike any other we had experienced in a restaurant. He entertained during our meal and conscientiously chose dance selections while we were on the dance floor . Dana, our server, was meticulous in her service to us. She was the epitome of professionalism and service while discreetly allowing us to enjoy a rare night out without constant interruptions. The food was diverse. The Lasagna al forno and Penne del mar, we ordered, were prepared to perfection. We would highly recommend the restaurant. for couples wanting a unique, romantic, and satisfying evening out.

My first experience at the Ballantyne location was wonderful. We were seated promptly at a table in the bar area. The server was discreetly available during the entire meal. The calamari was perfectly prepared, as was the Lobster Ravioli and steak. The music was super. Bobby, the pianist, played several selections for my wife. He was wonderfully entertaining. I would recommend Villa Antonio's for the food and the entertainment.

I have been to the South Blvd location quite a few times. Dinner and lunch and once just for desert. On every occasion the service and food were outstanding. During dinner you wanted for nothing. I hate to see that anyone had a bad experience and the review that stated their was a skeleton crew, well I can only imagine that the economy has effected them greater than it would a day old bread store! Take a look around we are all lucky many of these business are still available for us!

This restaurant has been in Charlotte for a long time. There was a time when things were fairly good at the South Boulevard location. I went recently and the restaurant seemed to have been running on a skeleton crew. I think several tables came in at the same time because our service was slow and the food seemed rushed. I think my fish was actually boiled in the pan with some sauce. Pretty sad. My friend told me that he knows someone at the other location who said the south boulevard location was for sale. This would make sense due to the lack of detail. In all fairness I had to try the Ballantyne location to see if maybe it was better. The space at Ballantyne is nicer for sure but there was a drunk couple at the bar that were causing a scene. This was not the way we hoped to start the night. Anyway the service was a little better but the drunk couple at the bar turned out to be the owner and his wife! Wow!Anyway, the food was ok. I had a really good soup. The music was pretty horrible. The singer, Oscar, should get a lesson in falsetto. I tried to talk to the manager about the drunk couple but he turned out to be basically a scared, standofish kid that was more interested in texting and flirting with the bartender. Seriously, I asked a cuople of questions and he mumbled something and disappeared. Customer service is not what it used to be. It seems like restaurants are sturggling right now. It would be a shame for theese reasturants to fail too. They need to find a good restaurant consultant because it is obious they need help. By the way the Louis is FAKE! I have had Tres all over the place and this one was mixed with some sort of cheap brandy. That should be illegal. Ceartainly a complete lack of integrity. All in all I won't be back nor will I reccomend Antonio's restaurant ( who turns out to be from Spain - not Italy).

We went on a late balmy night week night. They were still happy to seat us outside - in a section that had already closed for the night. It was late for a weeknight, maybe 10pm or so , and yet they didn't seem to mind at all that were there so late. The veal saltimbocca and veal marsala were fabulous. I'd give it 5 starts exceot for the very slow service. We thought they were out hunting down a calf! But luckily the atmosphere and food was worth waiting.

I made the tragic decision to eat here for my birthday and was very dissapointed. We started off with the stuffed portabella appetizer . The mushrooms were very small, very few, and stuffed with and oversalted crab stuffing (almost unedible). My boyfriend ordered the filet and it tasted like a potroast. I think they baked it? I had the lamb and it was OK, but overcooked and the sides were very salty. The only thing I enjoyed was sitting outside, my maritini, and the band playing across the street at another restaurant. Do not eat here, it is terrible!!! Both locations, I hear!

The Worst in Charlotte!
Don't waste your time and more especially your money at Villa Antonio!
I've had some bad meals in Charlotte and this place is the worst.
The food was dreadful. The "cook" at this place knows only one seasoning and its salt.
We went with friends from overseas and we were very embarrassed.
The appetizers were luke warm and unimaginative.
My wife?s friend had mushroom soup that was worse than that from a cheap can, again loaded with the "cooks" favorite seasoning. Salt!
And Luke warm.
The "Fruitte de Mer"entree was awful. Large scallops and shrimps that were tastless, the lobster was shriveled and again the whole dish was over way over salted.
My wife had a pasta and chicken dish that was overcooked and looked as if it was put together by a 10 year old. She tried a few bites and abandoned it.
My friend had a veal chop that he somewhat enjoyed but again the potatoes were plated a while before the veal therefore was cold.
What is with the ornate plate lids that look like German WW 1 helmets! Anytime I have seen those is in VERY fine restuarants, when they lift the lids and say VOILA! It?s usually followed with gasps of approval, not here! The lids should have been left on the plates.
The next lids that this food will see are the lid of a garbage can.
We first tried to eat at Villa Antonio on a Saturday night six months ago. We were informed that the wait was 45 minutes so we decided to sit at the bar. They forgot about us although there were tables open throughout our wait at the bar, so we left and went elsewhere.
The wait staff was not over friendly until we sent an entree back.
I wish that this had happened this time but no we made a reservation and when we got there the place was nearly empty, big surprise.............if they keep putting out food like what we had it will not be long before they are out of business.

Pros: None

Cons: The Food

.

They over charge you for food and drinks and the portions are so small. The place is not a place I'd ever recommend. Don't ever do it. Trust me go somewhere else

Villa Antonios is a wonderful Italian restaurant that has been located on South Blvd for many years. Their food and service is excellent and well worth the rather expensive price. The dessert cart is to die for! They have a new location in Ballantyne.

On a vaction trip we stumbled across this restaurant and were attracted by the elegant apparence of the building. Upon entering one could immediately tell this was 5-star. (i could actually feel my wallet becoming lighter with each step) The waiters and staff were exceptionally polite and courteous and the entire dining area was spotless and nicely lit. Its extrememly romantic. The food was superb and if one so muched as snapped their fingers, the waiter would be at your table or bring anything desired. The food is presented in a timely manner according to the tables dining pace. The serving sizes were surprisingly sizeable yet light on the stomach and the dessert platter leaves no sweet tooth untouched. I had the Crab stuffed grouper with a lobster sauce. The entree was very "seafood" tasting (not mild) which suited my tastes just perfectly. I would highly reccomend Vita Antonio based on the truely 5-star service, the flavor of the delicacies, and the VERY reasonable prices. Expect the entrees to range from $20 to $45, and apps around $10.

Experience at Villa Antonio.... It was a Tuesday night and I had takin my client to the resturant that I had heard so many positive things about. We wanted outside seating, there was only one other table with guests outside. As we sat for fifteen minutes with not so much as a hello or water. A table directly behind us sat down with four men. Thirty secounds later a waitress came out and took their orders, she then turned around and walked away. At this point i was so embarressed infront of my client that we left. Later that everning I called to speak with a manager. I was told that he had left for a few and would be glad to call me back when he got in. Three hours later I called back to have the manager tell me that the computer system went out and that is why he hadn't called ne back yet. As I told him my experience he continued to argue with me and tell me that I was wrong. I will NEVER offer my buisness to Villa Antono AGAIN!

I have been to the Ballantyne location twice in the last two months. Each time, the service was impeccable, food timed to our pace, and not a single detail overlooked. For those who suffer from sticker shock, stay home, or go to Olive Garden. Yes, prices are higher than at other restaurants, but you clearly get what you pay for. First class service, warm ambience, and some of the best desserts anywhere.
Try the Bananas Foster prepared tableside!

I was so disappointed to read some of the reviews, some of which could be dismissed as "bitter yankee" and "inability to spell", but some were just spiteful. What a shame, some of the others were right on the money, it is expensive, but worth it! I drive up from Rock Hill as often as possible, for the lunch buffet, which is very reasonably priced, for the wine tastings, an excellent value! And when finances allow...a big huge fabulous dinner. We enjoy the dancing, although I have never seen the floor show that was described in one of the reviews, and I adore the wait staff, the spunky owner and his gracious and fabulous son Anthony. If you are unsure of ordering a glass of wine, ask Chris, behind the bar....he knows best! They have added some very professional women to their wait staff and the entertainment can not be beat.
If you can not drag your husband out, grab some girlfriends & go in for the full "Princess" treatment, Ask for Fidel, your resident "Professional waiter".

I have always been impressed by the style, the elegance of the servers, the atmosphere, but while sitting in the dancing area, lounge last Saturday night, I was a little shocked, or maybe I dont get out enough. There were women with women and men with women, and etc, groping, fondling tonguing deeply, graphically, and dancing vulgarally as if in a strip joint on the dance floor. I was rather surprised to see this type of atmosphere in this fine dining establishment. Not to say that these persons shouldnt have been expressing themselves, I was just shocked. Like I said, maybe I need to get out more.

But the food, the service, the class of elegance of being treated like you are special, you are a queen or king, is at Villa Antonio's. I will go back, I will enjoy, I just hope that the dancers do not take their clothes off and are more graphic on the dance floor next time. If I wanted to view all of this, I would have went to a gentlemen's club, a ladies club or a strip joint.

My wife and I simply love Villa Antonio.

The food is always out of this world, and if anything is ever less than perfect, the staff are properly horrified and do their best to correct it.

The wine selection has been criticized as being too pricey. I agree that it's pricey, but if you like wine -- and I do -- then you don't mind paying a little bit extra for these fine bottles that you really can't find anywhere else. Try the Montecalvi. You'll thank me later.

If we're not going there for dinner, we love to sit in the bar area. The live entertainment is always great. The bar staff is excellent.

They are also "cigar friendly" -- very important to me -- and have an excellent selection of fine cigars, properly stored in humidors throughout the restaurant.

My fiance and I went here the first time almost by mistake, and since then it has become one of our favorite restaurants. The staff is attentive, but also respectful of the guests' space, so you can have a romantic "date night." The food is great, always well prepared, presented, and unique. A little pricey, but well worth it. The owner even comes out to greet the guests. Makes it feel homey and not as generic as some restaurants.

I wonder if "dmar5143" actually tasted the "vinegar" they serve with the bread. It is a mix of extra virgin olive oil, herbs, and balsamic vinegar. Also, I've never tasted cornbread that tasted like their Italian bread. To "major351971" who is from NY and used to "GREAT Italian food," I wonder what you ate, because the head chef who is the owner's brother grew up in Spain with a heavily influenced Italian family. He has been cooking since he was young, taking a lot of recipes from his upbringing and is constantly at both locations training the other cooks. In one review, I read that even though the caesar salad was prepared table side, the lettuce was pre-bagged (not a fresh romaine lettuce chunk) and the croutons were store bought, making the $8 he paid for it not worth the money. Well did he see the croutons coming out of a box or the lettuce being dumped out of a bag? OF COURSE NOT!!! The chef orders whole leaves of romaine lettuce that the servers must wash and rip into small pieces. Everyday the servers cut whole pieces of bread, then spread them out on a baking sheet and top them with cheese, and herbs then they bake them to serve with the caesar salad that night. I think that makes it worth $8. How do I know? I used to work there. If you think paying $30 for a bottle of wine to be presented to you, opened, and poured is too much money to pay, go to Harris Teeter, get a $7 box of wine and try to impress your date that way. Yes they do have expensive bottles of wine, but if you're going to yell about the price, you probably shouldn't be ordering the Cristal Champagne anyway. And don't get mad if the owner won't listen to your complaint. If he talked everyone that had a comment, when would he work? It is a business, people. You can't come into a place and expect everyone to stop what their doing and take care of you and only you. Restaurants work both ways. If you don't respect the staff and what they offer, they won't respect you.

Simply put, this food tasted like it was from a TV dinner. No joke. I'm originally from NY and used to GREAT Italian food and I have to say, BY FAR this was the WORST Italian restaurant I have ever been to. The ONLY thing nice about this place was the ambience and they do it up real nice because they must know the food is terrible. But come on, we're paying a lot of money and at the very least, the food should be of the highest quality. Everything tasted like it was from a can and not prepared fresh. Pasta? Bread? Ughhhh simply disgusting.
Do yourself a favor and never go anywhere near this place, unless of course you're into the "sizzle" and not the steak. Horrible.

If you are looking for a truely romantic, Italian restaurant this is the place. Villa Antonio has live music 7 nights of the week, a beautiful dance floor- Italian Venetian wood, a mouthwatering desset trollly, tableside flambees, and of course the best food, service, and atmosphere anywhere! The mood is romantic, but not stuffy- the best part is that you feel like family when you enter. Here you are a customer and not just a number. Villa Antonio knows how to do it right when it comes to food, service, and atmosphere. A must if the 16 oz Veal Chop and the Osso Bucco. Finish with a tableside flambee and then dance the night away on the beautiful dance floor.

The villa antonio new location is not even close to the original. They published a self review in a local paper and said their staff was the "Rolls Royce of courteous and knowledeable" what a joke. On two visits to the new location, my family and I found the staff to be rude and certainly not knowledeable. The prices are outrageous and the wine list is so overpriced it is insulting. I am glad they think so highly of themselves, because we certainly don't. Be ready to spend a lot of money and leave very dissatisfied. Better luck at McDonalds.

The food was average but overpriced. The service was slow. The worst part however, was one person ordered an appetizer and the next thing we knew everyone at the table was brought one. Because it was a birthday party no one wanted to cause a big scene and one person ended up having to pay for everyone's appetizer. A call to the restaurant the next day trying to address this problem was greeted by repeated "call back later responses" and rudeness. The owner himself never would talk to me about the problem.

My fiance' and I drive from out of town to frequent this restaurant. The owners and wait staff are always superb. Not to mention that the food has never been anything less than amazing. If the chef's nightly creations has not been something that suited us or we were not in the mood for our regulars off the menu we have been treated like royalty with the family cooking special creations table side just for us. The wine list is great and the ambience is soft, gentle and quiet enough that two can carry on a wonderful conversation. The dance floor in the back of the restaurant is a nice touch that allows you to dance with the one you love before ending the night. We have never been treated with such care, and attention to detail as when we dine @ Villa Antonio's. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Me and my wife were regular at villa antonio, going there for more than 6 years.
The athmosphere and decor keeps getting better and better with the extension of the restaurant.
Unfortunately our last experience has not been the best, the food quality and authenticity has decreased within the last year and prices are way too high.
We will give it a last shot hoping for the old "villa antionio " back.
The spanish owner Antonio was welcoming every time we dine there i might add.

Their Valentine's Day "special" was way over-priced...we thought we were getting a huge deal at $75 per couple, seeing as to how most restaurants do specials per couple, and got charged $75 per person instead...looking at the menu online, there is no way the food they served would cost over $50 per person, much less $75. On top of that, when our server found out I was allergic to seafood he acted like we were being a huge inconvenience to him, although my boyfriend had called ahead and already discussed this with the wait staff to make sure it wouldn't be an issue. Very bad service for an over-priced $200 meal...and false advertising.
