Unbelievable and ready to contact the media- WSOC

My daughter has a 17 year old Beagle that had a growth on her front wrist- I suggested Long as my parents took their dog to dr Richard killough in the 70s- mistake I will always regret

We began taking her dog 7 months ago and asked on every visit if the growth could be removed - each time the dog was treated with antibiotics - I took the dog in myself and repeatedly asked about removal

One of the vets said "yes" they could remove it and I asked him how he was able to remove it when all the previous visits they said no - he left the room and came back and told me that they could not remove it - the removal would leave an open area - all the visits and all the vets made it seem that the open area would not be treatable

They tested the growth twice for cancer and both times the tests were negative
The last visit the vet gave the dog antibiotics and a steroid to help shrink the growth - within a week the growth had become very enlarged so I told my daughter to go to Dilworth Animal Hospital which she did - how I wished I had asked her to go to Dilworth initially

Dilworth immediately said they could remove it and that while the area would be left opened they were confident the area would heal - my daughter was scheduled to go out of the country the next day and did not wish to have her dog in the hospital while she was away so she brought her dog back when she returned - unfortunately the growth had become even larger and at that time they suggested a specialist

We went to the specialist only to learn that the growth was cancerous and given its size it was probably not the best idea to remove it- so k ow my daughters dog is facing an amputation

Interestingly enough both places asked why the growth had not been removed earlier - which was my question to them as to why a vet would not remove it 7 months - 6 months 5 months 4 months 3 months or two months prior - they had no answer

I contacted dr Richard killough and explained my disappointment and dissatisfaction - he asked to review the records first but while on the phone with me offered to amputate for 1300 vs 2600

Received a call Friday night 9:30 pm - de killough said he had talked w all the doctors and they said they had offered to remove the growth

Unbelievable that records could be changed and Drs would out right lie -

Par for the course with Long Animal Hospital and their staff

I plan on reaching out to the media not because I am angry but because things that have happened to others ( as I have read and been told) as well those that have happened to my daughters dog are unacceptable and others need to hear

Yes there are those of you who receive great treatment from Long while there are just as many who are not satisfied - this the words of Dr Richard Killough

I think it is irresponsible to have a veterinary that would score 50 on satisfaction -

Prayers for Sophie as she now has to have her leg amputated - had the folks at Long did what they should have done 7 months ago - either remove the growth as we asked over and over or if they did not want to do the surgery then they should have suggested someone who could.

To me, there's Long Animal Hospital, and then there are all the other hospitals. We started with Dr. Kline, who has since moved out of state, and now we are with Dr. Uehline. She taught us how to manage the care of a very complicated cat that we have, and she is now working with us to get through another illness. We came there from CVS, having taken a male cat there with an emergency, where we saw Dr. Bob Messenger, who is now with Long. He was fantastic with me that evening and weekend. I will always be grateful to him. I have heard that he has "mad" surgical skills, placing his instruments on his fingers, moving back and forth as needed, without placing them on a table. I bet it's something to see. I have found the staff, techs, and front desk folks, to be wonderful. We love Long Animal and everyone who works there that we know.

Vet staff there is excellent, as are the vet techs. The front desk is iffy at best & is somewhat hit or miss. If I get someone that sounds clueless, I wait 30 minutes or so to call back & hopefully get someone else. There have been many times I have called & the advice/help is so sketchy, I just ask to speak to my vets, Dr. Brian or Dr. Singleton. The front desk clerks give some bad info., that if not otherwise checked out would be wrong advice.

I have used Long for over 30 years. Have been extremely UNTIL tonight 9/21/10 Marlina (accounts recievable) gave me advise that supposively came from the Doctor, that had I not listened to my gutt feeling and called back, and talked to Dr. Singleton, had I done it, it would have possibly not let my dog make it. We'll see if she still has her job tomorrow when I talk to Dr. Killough in person about Marlina!!!!!!!!

I have been using Long Animal Hospital for many years. I have always gotten superb service and been very satisfied with everything they have done to/for my dogs. I have never been more impressed with a vet in my life than I was with Dr. Brian Killough. Recently, we had a difficult time with our dog and had to make the horrific decision to have him put to sleep. Dr. Brian Killough was the most compassionate, kind, and gentle vet that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He was so understanding of this difficult decision and was so caring during the procedure. I know they must do this often, but I truly felt like he was genuinely touched having to do this to our dog. He sat with us and made us feel that we were making the best decision and gave us ample time to consider other options, as well. I will never be able to thank him enough for how he handled our situation, and I can wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone considering a veterinarian
