I lived in Malaysia for three years so I know Malay cooking quite well. Frankly, I was shocked to find a Malay restaurant in a town the size of Winston-Salem. I can only comment on the Malay part of the menu since I can't seem to get to order anything else. The Malay food is not as good as Malay home cooking but it is authentic and spiced as strongly as it would be served in country. Too many ethnic restaurants tone down their flavor to avoid offending the American palate to the point that they end up bland and inauthentic.

The portions are generous but that only matters when you like the food. When two of us go and order three main courses, we generally take home leftovers for two more meals (2 servings each). If you like spicy tastes, I recommend the Nasi goreng, the beef rendang and the Singapore noodles. Both versions of curry are excellent; I prefer the Indonesian hot pot style and my wife likes the dry curry better. For those who desire the flavor intensity turn down a notch or two, try the Chicken Chow Fun as well as the Pad Thai. I do not usually like pad thai at all but theirs is the first that I do not find too sweet.

FInally, the manager/owner Alan is extremely helpful. Just tell him what ever your particular needs are, e.g. vegetarian, afraid of too much hot spices or allergic to MSG, and he will take care of it conscientiously.

One of my favorite places to go out to eat. And the prices are extremely reasonable.

This is one of my fav places to go. The service is super fast and the fried rice is the best i've had! I love the beautiful fish pond and the environment is cute. There are lots of booths to have a romantic dinner and there is a back room for parties. The dinner specials are great for the money, you get soup, rice, your dinner and a egg roll or spring roll. :)

We received a less than welcoming greeting when we arrived at the restaurant. The server was very efficfient and went out of his way to make us happy. He seemed surprised when we asked for "no MSG." The food was not wonderful, but not horrible either. The spring rolls and egg rolls had been pre-cooked. The Asian mustard had been watered down. When the (manager? greeter? owner?) went to the table behind us and asked them to pay their bill because it was time to close and go home (9:02PM), we took our cue, paid up and left. I would go back here only if we had no better choice.

I've eaten at a lot of Chinese restaurants in Winston, and this is by far the best. I've tried some of the Malaysian fare, as well, and it's delicious. Nice, relaxing atmosphere; friendly, prompt service; excellent variety on the menu. It's my first choice for Chinese in Winston-Salem.

This place is like a diamond in the ruff. It is located in the corner of Reynolda Manor Shopping Center, so it might be hard to spot, although they do have a nice sign above their location. It is very close to Wake Forest University (less than 5 minutes distance) off of Polo Road. The restaurant serves generous portions of amazing food for a very reasonable price. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant, and the service is great! Also, they offer complimentary little desserts at the end of your meal. Oh, and their sanitation grade is a 98%... that is IMPRESSIVE-- especially since they are a small-medium sized restaurant.
I encourage anyone who is in the area and craving some good food to go to Malay Chinese Restaurant from Monday-Thurs. 11 A.M.-9 P.M., or Friday and Saturday from 11 A.M.-10 P.M. They offer take out if you're in a rush! Just call ahead #336-722-7750.

This small, obscure Chinese restaurant offers basic Chinese cuisine with tremendous taste and unbelievably low prices. Lunch entrees, which are roughly half the price of dinner entrees, are nevertheless equal to dinner entrees in size. Their beef and chicken satay are also excellent.

Easily the best Chinese restaurant in the Winston-Salem area.

Easily the best Chinese restaurant in the Winston-Salem area.

Pros: Immediate seating, perfect service, outstanding food and prices

I recently moved to Winston-Salem having always lived in places like Chicago and New York . . . The Malaysian food is very, very nicely done, and this is one of the few restaurants in town that is competitive with restaurants in larger cities . . .
