After bouncing around from different barbers and salons in the area, I finally tried Salon 135. I walked in on a weekday morning and the receptionist promptly paired me with Lindsay. She did what the others failed to do. She listened to what I had to say and made sure I received exactly what I wanted. What a concept! Overall I would say she is skilled, courteous, clean and easy on the eyes. I have no complaints about my experience there and they have earned my repeat business.

Had a horrible experience at this salon. Staff acted like they could careless about my cut and left we waiting for 20 min. even though I had an appointment. I overheard them making fun of a patron right after they left the salon. Bad people, bad place to get your hair done.\nDon't believe the self promotional reviews below. \n\nawful 0 stars

I have been going to Salon 135 for the past 2 years for both eyebrow & upper lip waxing and haircuts. Every time I go the person the people who handle my stuff are extremely attentive and do such a perfect and thorough job. The staff are really friendly and I have a fun time there. Christy is an amazing hair cutter and she gave me a super trendy hair cut. Steven has always been friendly every time I walk in. I would recommend this salon as their work on me has been perfection each time.

I've been getting my hair cut by Alan at Salon 135 for many years--since they were on the opposite side of Franklin St. Alan has always cut to flatter my thin curly hair, and when it turned gray and straight, he cut a new style that I continue to receive compliments on even months later. I've recommended Salon 135 to many friends who are also pleased with the results.\n\nApparently the negative comments are from some other salon or are folks with a personal agenda. I've never seen any of the activities described by the haters, and it's always clean. As mentioned, I've been going there for many years.

I've been coming to Salon 135 for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. The salon is extremely clean and the staff is helpful & friendly. I've always gotten a great haircut and highlights, and the stylists are always willing to listen when I explain what I want. I highly recommend them!

i recently donated my hair to locks of love and trusted alan to cut 10+ inches of my hair and style it to fit my face and hair type. everyone loved the new cut which made it much easier (and a great deal of fun) to make such a drastic change. even when i go several weeks longer between cuts i still get compliments.

What a fabulous group over there at Salon 135! It's simple, you get a great looking cut and you are treated like a valuable customer every single time. I'll be taking my 13 month old son to Salon 135 for his very first hair cut!!

I've been coming to Salon 135 for many years now and the place has only gotten better. Their location is bright and sunny and super clean. The people are wonderful: highly skilled and fun to be around. I get 2-color highlights and many layered cuts and I always feel like a million bucks when I leave.

Alan Corpus has been my stylist for years now, and continues to deliver a meticulously-executed, flattering cut each and every time. I regularly receive compliments from strangers about my hair. I have recommended Salon 135 to several acquaintances, who have all been happy with their experiences.\r\n\r\nI travel to Chapel Hill from Durham every four weeks - 80 minutes round trip through crazy campus traffic. I wouldn't devote this valuable time if my cut--and my experience at Salon 135--wasn't worth it!

located on Franklin Street, Salon 135 is a Chapel Hill institution. I've been going for years and have always gotten a good cut or color. Sylists really care about what YOU want, how much time you want to spend doing your hair and your type of hair.

Pros: good with color and cuts

Cons: more expensive than some places, but worth it

I drive from another city just to have my hair done here. I've had cuts in NYC and Chicago that were not as good as Alan's.

I arrived to this Salon without an appointment and they did all that they could to squeeze me in with the next stylists available. Did I forget to mention that they wanted to know my preference in stylist (male or female) but it did not matter to me. Alan was able to sqeeze me into his schedule. After looking at the texture of my hair and shape of my face, he automatically recommended a hair style that I would have never thought of...at the end of the day, I left that Salon very pleased with my new ""do"" and since then I have kept that look...as all I get is compliments on how great that cut makes me look....thanks Alan!

I am shocked as well at the negative reviews! I don't think we can be talking about the same place! I have been going to Johnnathan for years now and I am always so impressed by the way he can tell me what is going to look best on my facial structure and he always makes me happy. He's so creative and my hair always looks great. I didn't even know I had curly hair before I started going to him! It used to be this unmanageble frizz that I had to dry straight everyday but he taught me how to style my hair and now it's curly and it takes me literally 5 minutes to do!\r\n\r\nThis is definately not the place to go if you're looking for a snotty spa-like environment. These stylists are very talented, love what they do, and treat you like family. The prices are very affordable, much less than some of the other salons in the area and they do a much better job. You won't get pampered here, you'll get the best hair cut and color of your life. I tell all my friends, family and co-workers to go here and no one has ever been disappointed.

honestly, i am shocked reading these other reviews and wonder if they went to salon 135. i've had an appt there every 6 weeks for 10 years without ever encountering this type of atmosphere.\r\ndo not let the casual nature of the place fool you - these are professional stylists who do their job very well. I get both cut and color to difficult to manage hair and have never been unhappy. \r\nOne of the best things, in my opinion, is that they will not let you do something that will look horrible. On several occasions I've been in when a person brought in a picture of a cut and the stylist gently steared them to a cut that would look better.

I am an extremely tolerant person; it takes a lot to rustle my feathers at businesses. I have never had a worse salon experience in my life. It was my first visit before going to Chicago for a wedding, and I wanted a simple trim. After sitting down to have my hair washed, I realized that my hairdresser was ill and started coughing and sneezing. She told a co-worker that she couldn't go to the doctor b/c her insurance hadn't started, but she never should have been cutting hair that day. Three days later, I woke up in Chicago with a terrible upper respiratory infection and had a miserable day of travel back to Raleigh and missed work on Monday. The cut was mediocre at best.\r\n\r\nWorst of all, her co-worker was loud, rude, and crossed the line when she announced to the entire room (immediately after her client left), a list of horrible life events that her client revealed to her (including a sexual assault). I was enraged, and did everything in my power to not say anything while instead giving dissapproving looks at the staff around me. I could tell that some of them were uncomfortable with this public disclosure of someone elses secrets, but there is clearly a lack of personal privacy there, and that particular hairdresser certainly lacks respect for her clients. This is the first time I've posted a review, but this event was incredibly disturbing and I will definitely never be back there. Unprofessional and tactless.

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Disrespectful and thoughtless staff, cramped space

The staff is horrible. They spend more time flirting with each other than they do cutting hair. I think the owner really pushes the stylist to see as many people as they can in an hour. You really feel rushed. not very clean.

I have been getting my hair cut and styled for years, and have never had such a bad experience as this. I went in with beautiful long hair and told the stylist I wanted a trim. On top of that, I brought in a picture of myself with the desired lenth which I told him I only wanted it maximum 2 inches shorter. Well, after he assured me in a horrible french accent that he'd only trim a little, he washed my hair and then spun me so I couldn't see the mirror. When he turned me around, I was HORRIFIED! He'd cut off about 7 inches and the cut looked absolutely aweful! He kept fluffing it saying it just needed to be styled, and I told him I couldn't go out in public like that...It really was the worst possible cut ever, added like 10 years to my face. Seeing how unhappy I was, he washed and cut my hair again. When he turned me around, I started crying because he had made it look even worse. I have never seen anyone butcher someone's hair like that. When the manager saw me crying and telling the guy I didn't want him to touch my hair again, he came over and fixed it in 5 mins. Even though it was now just below my ears, it looked decent.\r\nDO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! I ended up having to pay for the haircut that I specifically didn't want. I miss my hair and will warn anyone from going here!!!\r\n

Salon 135 was great! I called literally 15 minutes before and snagged the last open appointment they had for the day. They were great about fitting me in even though I was a first time customer. I had recently gotten a hair cut, but it hadn't been what I wanted and I was really disappointed in it, and after a couple weeks of thinking about it decided to get it re-done here. Jonathan was my stylist and he was GREAT. He took what I wanted and my requirements and turned them into a great cut. I really know nothing about hair and am always awful at telling my stylist what I want, and he did a great job deciphering. I have really thick hair and he thinned it out allowing my curls to finally come back. Thick frizzy blah hair into light curly and great! I will definitely go back again and the price isnt bad either- $38 dollars flat rate for the cut

The receptionist though professional can only be called that: professional. BUT, he is not who I went to see and so, let me contrast his stiffness with the actual stylist. I had Kelly, who was very cool with my hair-cutting anxiety. Kelly was everything you want in a stylist: competent, professional and warm. I am definitely going back to that place. It is cozy and small - which I also like. And important for many of us, the haircut/wash/consulting only set me back $38 for the cut and $6 for the tip.

After a not-so-great cut at another salon, I went to 135 to get the opinion of a new stylist and to correct the problems with my previous cut. Kelly immediately figured out what went wrong with my hair and how to soften the damage. She was really pleasant as were the rest of the staff. It seems like they have a little family at 135. It's a little more expensive than I like to pay for haircuts ($38) but it's hard to find less expensive, quality salons in Chapel Hill. I'll probably go back.

I have been going off and on for a few years, for lack of finding a better place. Quit going when haircuts and highlights were not getting any better, not only that but there were careless mistakes made. Don't waste your time or money- stylists rush, don't seem to care about customer satisfaction, don't really listen to what you want. Very hard to find parking. Friendly staff but unskilled stylists.

I first went for a haircut and April was fantastic, exactly what I wanted. Then after attempting to do my own highlights (ended up neon orange) I called panicked. Jonathan fit me at 5pm on Friday- the one time I could come before an event on Sat. He patiently corrected my hair for 3 hours on a FRIDAY night. I was completely impressed. And he cut my layers in a new way I love. Jonathan is amazing. \n\nLast month I ran into an old friend, her hair looked outstanding. When asked where she went, she raved about Jonathan. \n\nTry 135- I brought in older pictures and magazines (long brown hair with golden highlights) and the results matched the photos. The people are warm, talkative, and attentive. \n\nAnyone who can make bright orange hair perfectly highlighted brown/blonde on a Friday while being nice is a miracle worker!

After living in the Triangle area for almost two years, I think I finally found my stylist. Ashlyn was both sympathetic to me for the AWFUL haircut I got days before at another salon (which is heavily advertised on citysearch) and she managed to make me feel beautiful when I left.\n\nI have been to several hairdressers over the last two years and was relieved to meet a stylist who was intuitive to what I asked for (and not the '80s look I got instead two days earlier) and took the time to actually style my hair.\n\nAs for the rating from 2002 about the annoying girl, unless she morphed into the sweetie of a guy working behind the desk now, it's safe to say she's gone and you'd find this place both charming and up-to-speed with the latest looks!

I like the location of Salon 135 because it is so close to the UNC Chapel Hill campus. This is the reason I repeatedly went to get my hair highlighted and cut there. I finally had to leave because the cuts and highlights were not getting any better. I have heard the men stylists are better than the women stylists there.

Salon 135 offers a city atmosphere in the heart of Franklin Street. You pay for what you get. If you want a cheap hair cut go to great clips but you won't be satisfied. The staff is solid with ideas about what works best for each person. Go ask Bulah at Great Clips to just do what she thinks best with your hair and you'll be terrified of the results. Ask someone at 135 to do so and you'll walk out thinking you're a rock star. Two thumbs up!

I tried this salon when I first moved here, on the advice of a friend. The girl making appointments was very rude and snobby. Even when she was speaking to other customers on the phone, she was rude, and it seemed like they were bothering her. My stylist was nice, but my cut was nothing new. I went back a few times for lack of wanting to look around, but eventually I left. I could not deal with the counter girl any more. It's all about the hype, and I never left a cut that I was crazy about.

New to town, I was looking for someone to cut and highlight my hair. I wanted someone who was up-to-date on styles and experienced with highlighting and was directed to Salon 135. I went a couple of times, and, each time, I was underwhemed. \n\nWhen I reluctantly HAD to have my hair highlighted (it had been quite a long time since my out-of-state move), I was horrified by my stylist's version of mixing color. He randomly added peroxide to an existing mix. No measuring. No color charting. The results were, let's say, less than desirable. The following day, I called another stylist to repair both cut and color. \n\nIn summation: I go to a salon for interesting and enhancing cuts and color, not atmosphere. In this case, I found the funk not so fab.

Pros: atmosphere, location

Cons: color guesswork, mediocre cut
