This is the second dermatologist i have been to, and I am so glad that I came here. I am your typical "I hate my pimples" patient that was so embarassed of them, I was in tears. The first time I went to a different dermatologist, she was trying to sell me name brands and cosmetic trreatments like lasers, etc. But going to Dr. Andrus, he simplified it down, and gave me MEDICAL treatment, he was very matter of fact without frills, explained everything, and even the medicine he perscribed. For that, I love him. Simply put, he didn't make a mountain out of a mole hill (or in my case, pimple hill.)

Pros: knowledgeable, medical advice

Cons: talks a little fast

I visited Dr. Andrus to get a skin cancer check and some advice for my adult acne problem. The office was pretty much on time even though since I was there early I had to sit in the waiting room listening to some northerner yell in his cell phone about plumbing parts while I stared at at least 3 different signs asking for no cell phone use while in waiting area. The receptionist never intervened. If he hadn't been called back when he was, I was going to intervene.

Finally got back in the room, the nurse was nice enough, just not a lot of personality. She instructed me to undress to bra and underwear and cover with a drape for the skin cancer check, and walked out of the room. I did as instructed, about 10 minutes later, in comes Dr. Andrus, he introduces himself, breifly shakes my hand and right away starts the exam- no questions about any particular spots I was concerned with, etc. During the exam, he notices the acne and asks what I was doing about it, I started to say "Nothing right now, my skin is very dry..." But I only got out "Nothing" He said, "okay- we're gonna give you some pills for that." He didn't say the name of the pills. He completes the skin check in less time than it has taken me to write this review. Says "Everything's fine, I'll give you a prescription for a pill" Before he can take a breath I break in and ask about the pill and pregnancy since my husband and I were trying to get pregnant. He launches into a rant about how any pill you put in your body while your pregnant is poison, of course you can't take this while you're pregnant, just like you can't drink caffiene or alcohol while you're pregnant. While he's preaching (to the choir, I might add) he doesn't mention anything about the actual effects of the medicine, still don't know what it's called, and what I can or can't expect from it.
After this he tells me to get dressed and rushes out of the room, before I even had a chance to get another question out, he's gone. I figure, okay- he'll come back and we'll talk when I'm dressed. Not that I wanted to speak with him anymore after the interaction we had already had, but I'm not going to pay my $50 for nothing.
I never see him again, he nurse comes back in with the 'script, gives breif instructions, and I'm out of there, writing my check and having no more answers than when I walked in.

Though my wait was 30', Dr. Oyler was very friendly, thorough, and informative. Staff was also very competent and friendly. Would definitely recommend her!

I would avoid this practice. I have a high risk of skin cancer because of genetics and my own history with skin cancer and their skin checks were always quick. They overlooked a suspicious mole which turned out to be malignant melanoma. The tumor had grown greatly in size and depth and I was lucky it had not spread by the time I pointed it out to them. Had they of noticed it in a previous appointment it wouldn't have been a big deal. I had an invasive surgery which confirmed it had not spread. If they had noticed it before I wouldn't have had to have surgery.
