Unnecessarily charged $400 for a tooth extraction - Last time we did it in Chicago, we were charged $80. The cancellation policy does not make sense at all - 72 hours or you are charged $50 - what kind of blackmail is that? I am going to cut-off relations with this dentist.

I really enjoyed the service I got from Dr. Acton at Cary Family Dental. Unfortunately, exorbitant fees and ridiculous cancellation policies have prompted me to seek care elsewhere. The office staff is very rude and condescending. Beth is the absolute worst with Melissa being a close second. They have a 48 hour cancellation policy. Really? I just cancelled an appointment with 32 hours notice and was told to expect a bill for $50. I guess they don't get that life happens...work happens...kids happen. I can understand being billed $50 for not cancelling within 24 hours, but 48? It's gotten ridiculous. They know I have good dental insurance and they really take advantage of it. They charge the maximum for everything and will tell you that certain procedures are 100% covered, then send you a bill. Not cool. If you want to be bombarded with marketing and pleas for 5 star reviews and if you never have anything come up that could cause you to need to cancel an appointment with less than 48 hours notice, this is the practice for you. I'm guessing they're hurting for cash flow to pay for their new facility. That's the only reason I can think of to burn someone who has been a patient since they first opened their practice. Shame on you guys.

I loved the practice - I loved the hygienist and the quality of care that I received. of course, nothing GOOD comes without a price. I guess I would say this is the "Cadillac" of dentists in the area. I cannot afford a Cadillac at this time. and the prices are so outrageous and out of line that even if I could afford the Cadillac, I think that I would give it careful consideration. I do not like to throw my money away. I called my provider, Metlife and they even agreed that the charges are "quite excessive". Like I said: the "technical" part went very well - above average. I felt like I received a bullet between the eyes when I went to check out and was hooked up with Beth, their finance consultant. BEWARE that she will try and reel you in like a used car salesman. she wants you to make the appt. right then and there - even after I told her that I would need to check my schedule (my checkbook really to see if I could afford the exorbitant costs) In these times, we ALL have to be careful and watch where our money goes. I will not sacrifice my left arm for dental work, no matter how good it is.

I thought the attention to detail and the service I received was outstanding! I appreciated the friendly atmosphere and high quality services. I am typically fearful of the dentist office but not Cary Family Dental. They did a great job filling my cavities with no pain and eased my concerns. I will definitely go back to Cary Family Dental.

We (family of 4) went to Cary Family Dental for over a year and have had payed them (with insurance) more than $5,000. We liked the dentists very much. However, when my kids missed the cleaning appointment they charged us $100 each! We also received a very rude letter saying that they will not honor our appointments any more and the only way we can schedule an appointment is "the same day". The charges for a missed cleaning appointment are outrageous and were given without any warning. And it was very upsetting to receive such a letter and treatment after all the appointment that we made and money that we payed. We are looking for a new dentist!

Dr. Alton saved a tooth another dentists said couldn't be saved. While it was expensive (by my standards, maybe not by others), by saving my tooth, he actually saved me much more that it would have cost to have extraction/implant, not to mention saving time and PAIN.
He and his wonderful staff actually READ my charts and emails prior to treatment, TALKED to me about my previous dental experiences (some pretty bad), fears and goals, accepted my goal of appearance over health (ie work on things appearance teeth before the poorer-condition back ones), LISTENED to my financial realities and concerns and really WORKED to maximize use of my insurance.
I also really appreciated the positive, optimistic attitude of everyone there. They did not chastise or give 'that look' of other dentists, and kept saying that they'd help me figure out how to have a nice, healthy mouth, that they were sure it was possible. I really needed to hear that. Also, it might be silly, but the hygenist's repeated 'good job' remark over each little step did make me feel good.
I didn't feel the novocaine needle or have pain afterwards--a rarety for me. (I also had x-rays, a deep and regular cleaning, another cavity filled, and maybe some other things I've forgotten.) It was the first time EVER that I came out of dentist's office feeling HAPPY.
The icing on the cake is that he also works with a couple charities, devoting time and fees at certain times of the year--while giving clients a tax break.
Now, I don't care if he's the most expensive dentist in town (which I doubt he is), I will still figure out a way to keep going to him, because in this case, I felt I got exactly what I paid for.

Pros: saved a tooth others said had to be pulled
Cons: not cheap (but not necessarily more than others)
There are many great dentists in this area. Most are very professional, most have great new equipment, but the thing that really sets dental offices apart is the quality of the person that cleans your teeth. You spend most of your time with them. They can make your visit like an S&M experience or a pleasant and efficient process. In all honesty, the dental hygienist is the most important component of a dental office and is often overlooked. Assuming, of course, the dentist is top notch.
I've had the pleasure of meeting a hygienist at Cary Family Dental that I was very impressed with. She is gentle, efficient, fun, happy, and just wonderful. I'll never let anyone else clean my teeth now that I've been to see her. Everyone there is very professional and pleasant and if they are as skilled as my hygienist was then you can't go wrong.
To customers looking for a dentist let me say this. A good dentist is probably the most important medical contact your family can have and you can't go wrong with this organization. If Anne Rice herself asked me where to go, I would send her to Cary Family Dental!

I really like this dental office. The staff are very personable. The dental hygienist is great. She is very thorough and takes her time explaining what she is doing and why. The office has state of the art equipment and each exam room has a TV and DVD player.
