I first became acquainted with the Loop Pizza Grill when I lived in Jacksonville Florida where the chain grew up. Simply known as the Loop, I noted that the restaurant always had great burgers and shakes. Well, a franchise opened up in the Winston-Salem area a few years ago and it continues the tradition of great food.

Ordering is a snap: just pick your items, go to the counter to place your order and wait for your number to be called. As for the menu items, it comes down to burgers, pizzas, and salads. The burgers are big affairs with nearly a half of a pound of meat on a big bun. You take it as it is or top with a variety of cheeses. Loop 'n' Cheddar has always been my preference. For side items, there are meaty steak fries and thick onion rings which comes with a zest dipping sauce. Either one would do just fine. The pizzas are a varied lot and reflect a gourmet style like Spicy BBQ Chicken or Sausage & Goat Cheese pizzas. The crust can be either a pan type or thin. I find sometimes the fillings to be a bit watery and the sauce a little thin as well. Finally there are the salads: large platters of greens topped with a generous helping of vegetables. They have the regular Caesar and Greek but a favorite of mine is the Gorgonzola Walnut tossed with a balsamic vinegarette that blends quite well with the cheese and nuts.

Lastly, a word about the milkshakes. They make some of the finest shakes around using real milk and ice cream. The strawberry shake is filled with little and not so little bits of fruit that gives it such delighful flavour.

PROS: Great Burgers and Shakes
CONS: Not much more on the menu but burgers and salads

We moved back home in 2007, Stopped by for pizza and Shakes, we go here weekly, and Love it. The Salad are great. But for a Salad go around the corner to The Carving Board, they are tops at Salad and Lite lunches. Brad and Amy B.
